I find it pretty ok. The CGI is pretty good, most of the actors are good at their job, and even the shoe-horned intersectional politics isn't really a problem as it doesn't divert from the main story.
Michael Burnham is one of the least likeable Trek characters flat out. Is basically written to be infallible in most all situations.
Luis Thomas
Yea Forums stopped giving a fuck after season one ended. Season two was too despised to generate any hate threads.
Dominic Long
>Michael Burnham is one of the least likeable Trek characters flat out.
I actually agree with this somewhat, yeah. She constantly tries to seem relatable, but ends up being a Mary Sue type character that just wins all the time.
Colton Howard
apart from all the threads shilling shitty youtube channels shouting IT'S CANCELLED WE WON
Landon Edwards
Burnham was advertised as a we-can-too badass, but what we got is a headstrong ninny whos expressional range is puppydog eyes or defiant glare.
It's nothing like the 2 most popular generations of star trek (tos/ng) and it deviates hard from other iterations. It feels less like star trek and more like what The Cloverfield Paradox was to the cloverfield universe.
It's not dogshit, but it's not good either. I can't say I care for the red angel subplot in every episode now. Just give me separate adventures with small references to previous episodes. Also start giving characters flaws like saru who dealt with abandoning his race to pursue his own dream.
Caleb Gonzalez
The Saru subplot was actually one of the better things in the show. The rest is pretty mediocre.
Angel Evans
It's just another "Let's insert our SJW agenda first, then try to fit a story around it" kind of show. The end. >The Klingons are the racist, intolerant, bigoted Trump voters and Michael represent the stronk women courageously defying them. Roll eyes; we fucking get it!
Jayden Wilson
This but unironically
Anthony Thompson
Show is somewhat decent, but the main character Michael Burnham is the biggest insufferable Mary Sue in existence.
She is always right, never does anything wrong, sways everyone her way and is literally perfect in every aspect. Her dialogues are also always scripted to sound like she's reciting poems instead of talking and interacting like a human being.
Nathan Reed
>Why is this show bad again? Shill thread. Move along people, nothing to see here.
>Her dialogues are also always scripted to sound like she's reciting poems instead of talking and interacting like a human being.
I find this to be the most valid criticism, and it's only further compounded by the fact that Soniqua whatever can't convey that kind of dialogue naturally. The most interesting female character ended up being Michelle Yeoh (from both universes).
She honestly should've been the main character, she's like a cooler headed Janeway.
>The most interesting female character ended up being Michelle Yeoh Agreed. There are good characters in STD, they just fucked up on who they gave the focus of the show on.
Austin Martinez
this bitch is nearing 60 and god I still want her to kung fu me in the balls so hard, if you know what I mean.
Owen Wilson
Michael should've been the stuck up, by-the-book asshole XO who was always trying to keep the rest of the crew in line while the optimistic/adventurous Captain made the big calls. Over time Michael could loosen up and learn to live or whatever and that could be one of the side character arcs. As soon as they had her nerve pinch the captain and try to usurp command, I knew she was going to be the show's weakest link.
>Why is this show bad again? Michael Everything else is OK, Michael is the thing that destroys the show. She's everywhere, in everything, doing all the things. Why even have the rest of the crew?
>Saru is dying >has a long poignant death scene >needs someone to kill him, obviously it's fucking Michael, god forbid anyone have a meaningful relationship with anyone on the ship who isn't Michael >scene is going pretty well, dialog is good, emotional but not cloying >right at the beat which would be the perfect point to end it and climax the scene Saru continues talking so that he can make his death all about Michael and how Michael should fix her relationship with Spock
Like they just couldn't let it go without making it all about Michael, it would have been one of the best scenes of the entire show but they shat all over it because the show was about someone other than Michael Burnham for five fucking seconds.
I mean he obviously didn't die but it could still have been a good scene
It's hard to blame the actress, she comes off as very likeable in the interviews. The character is just badly written.
Mason Flores
This post really opened my eyes to how retarded that scene actually was.
Sebastian Ortiz
Devil's advocate, the fact that Saru mentioned it actually saved his life. Also it kind of makes sense, on the deathbed, all my grandparents were only talking about us talking to our extended family, reaching out to people, putting differences aside etc.
Lucas Perez
That's not the point, he could have talked about his sister all he wanted. The point is that he mentioned his sister so that the writing team could use his powerful death scene to service Michael's character.
Josiah James
Hard to disagree with that, you're right.
Ryder Ross
On top of that, the show revolves completely around her.
Jeremiah Robinson
Michael isn't the only bad character.
You forgot 'I fucking love science!' Personified. She shits up everything. Even my STO, as some sort of mirror universe Whedon quipmeister.
Age of discovery and mirror suck. Like the show.
The science guy, Stamets, is shit too. Especially as burnham and tilly can do his job better than him. I'm glad I didn't watch beyond episode 3 of the first series.
