The increased resolution is nice but the best part is HDR.

Thing is most "4k" BluRays aren't even 4k. They're 1080p transfers being upscaled and released as "4k". Most digital mastering is done at 2k so remastering it just for the 4k BluRay is more effort than most are willing to put in.

I currently have a 4K TV and I'm planning on upgrading to 8K but many movies I love are still stuck in 1080p.

there are some movies and shows (mostly foreign) that was only ever kept digitally at 480p for DVD.
They're still sold on Bluray as 1080p but are upscaled from that DVD copy and often look worse than the real DVD.

Barely anything they call 4K actually is.

Netflix even have to degrade their 4K footage to make it streamable.

And there are many films which are stuck in SD forever.
Many TV series which were shot on videotape would be stuck in SD forever due to their nature.
There are also those schlocky shot on video B-movies.

There are also some 720p-only TV series (mostly shows made by Fox Television like New Girl and Modern Family, as well as most anime).
