What did you buy from the Criterion flash sale, Yea Forums?

I got the Blu-Rays of Following and Dressed to Kill.

I thought of pre-ordering the police story 1+2 bundle but it didn't apply to that, so I torrented them instead

I wanted to buy the Bergman boxset but i'm in Europe...

Not enough region 2 on their site.

If I had a blu-ray player I might buy some kaijukino

The Magnificent Ambersons and The Thin Red Line

I wanted to get Godzilla, but the Blu-Ray was out of stock.

Nothing. Ask me when these lazy bastards start adding foreign subtitles for their releases. It's really will not cost that much and people around the world start buying their blu-rays. Easy profit

>Soi-terion
never.

>not having the link of all godzilla movies
heh

Fuck I should’ve bought something. Wish they had more Bunuel though, we need a criterion blu Ray release of The Milky Way and Nazarin.

Literally the only thing I wanted was out of stock, the Larisa Shepitko Eclipse set

Not him, but I have all of the torrents, archive.org has them all and there's a high degree of plausible deniability in using them, but I want the fancy schmancy boxes to line up

Unlike most other companies they have an entire team handle translations because they hold their translations to a higher standard of accuracy. It would cost a lot more than you think.

Redpill me on the criterion collection please. I want to be patrician too.

It's for reddit poseurs who still tug themselves off to Tarkovsky and Kurosawa and other entry level imdb-core direcors.

only about 20% of their releases are worth buying, the rest is for film school pseuds

>only about 20% of their releases are worth buying
that's still tens of thousands of dollars

What do their releases have over the standard releases?

I didn't get anything but it reminded me I am a Charter member for Criterion channel and never activated it.

I might grab Cat People, but honestly I only wanted to if Curse of the Cat People was also in the collection which it isn't

Criterion is so overrated 90% of the time other companies like Arrow have better quality transfers. They love to contrast boost and crop their releases and some of them even have banding.

Criterion is a fashion label for dilettantes.

The biggest reason by far is transfer quality. They also have fantastic special features.

That's from an old transfer of the the film. Potempkin release also has the new restoration and looks much better than Criterion.

Imagine caring about the video quality of shitty grainy b&w movies

Is it still happening or did I miss it

there’s a vocal group on Yea Forums who will shit on anything criterion. the fact of the matter is they have fantastic releases/restorations of some of the greatest films of all time. some people are really fucking douchey about their obsession with criterion (just as reddit will get lame about anything), showing off their collection, obsessing over the latest releases, etc. If there’s some films you really like, buying the Criterion release is a pretty good way to go. Get em while they’re on sale cause paying $$$ for blu-rays is silly

criterion is basically the funko pop of film.

t. marvel fapping zoomer

Yeah the way they market themselves is kind of annoying but they do make some stuff way more easily accessible. Without there releases it would be hard to find torrents for a lot of films

(((Buying))) blurays.

Think not.

Arthouse Distributor licenses titles from different studios from all over the world, restores the film so it doesn't look like shit, has great special features exclusive to that release, and has an academic essay on the film by a Film Scholar, Critic, or someone closely related to the film.

They are expensive as fuck but you get what you paid for. No ads in the beginning, goes straight to the menu.

look up the Criterion Restoration of Godzilla vs the Classic Media release of the film.

Dead Man and the Samuel Fuller eclipse set.

arthouse shit for arthouse shitheads

i have some and my favorite so far is Persona

Which one?

The Wages of Fear had some.
