I never got the uncanny valley vibe from Alita. I think some people confuse, "you can tell its CGI" with the uncanny valley. It's still slightly off, but its almost there. I think it has too much detail. I dunno what it is, but in some shots she just looks wayyy over-detailed. Some shots though, oh yeah, the uncanny valley was definitely defeated— some shots don't look CGI at all.

It's interesting, I said the last two weeks would spell the future for Alita and it's sequels, but this weekend will be the most interesting. I didn't expect so many people to start this Alita vs. Captain Marvel challenge, and while I don't like some of the politicization of it and it should just be about supporting a good film, I wonder what this spells for Alita's domestic gross this weekend. It definitely won't make more than 10 million, but I have to wonder if it will replicate last weekend's number purely out of word of mouth and this CM controversy. So, it could bounce and do another 5 to 7 million second weekend. It may not be the best public image of the movie, but at least more people will get to see it. It won't tarnish the film's reputation.

that's pretty accurate though. The producers can claim all they want that alita had billions of polygons per visible skin pore, but the fact is it does not look any more lifelike than designs from the early 00s that weren't trying to look lifelike at all.

The movie still has 5+ weeks in theaters and foreign will add another 20 to 30 million this weekend alone. Add the week gross, that's above 400. I'm curious how the legs will be, because all things considered, even though it doesn't have high numbers in the states, it's actually ran pretty consistently, dropping only 40 to 60% on usual drop off days.

I like the character, but I'm also in it because it's made by Cameron/Rodriguez two great action directors. The movie has style. CM on the other is made by two tv directors not known for action or exciting visuals. From a few reviews I saw, the movie appears to have no visual style the fight scenes appear bland, non-impactful. and you can barely tell what's going on. Enjoy your boring movie capeshiter.

Also, most people don't consider week grosses. The only focus on the weekend numbers, but a lot is also added throughout the week. For example, from last Monday to the following Monday, the movie added 75 million in foreign gross. So, even if we HALF that for this week and weekend, that's another 40 million or more.

If we're being absolutely completely realistic, and I've been tracking the numbers since day 1, the film will at minimum end with 430 million. That is going to happen no matter what.
