Enjoyed STD series 1. It was clearly written by someone who hates Star Trek and decided to subvert every convention. Everyone is angry, murderous, conflicted. There is nobody to trust and loyalty is punished.
Series 2 is a little hit-and-miss. It feels like different writers worked on different episodes and there is not a lot of continuity between episodes. For example, Saru frees his people from slavery, starts a civilization-changing revolution, becomes the greatest hero his planet has ever known ... and then next week he's back on the bridge repeating the computer to the captain.
That's because STD takes place in the mirror universe.

I'm on episode 4 of S2 and I'm not enjoying it as much. It feels schizophrenic. You can complain about the grimdark tone of 1, but at least it kept it pretty consistent AND they were at war so at least it was semi-justified. Plus it focuses on what is easily the worst aspect of Burnham's (already pretty shitty) character - her fanfiction tier connection with Spock/Sarek.
