This is one of the best animated films of all time

>lost nomination to boss baby
OH NONNONONO

And that is entirely Funimation's fault. If they had let Disney handle the western release we'd have a different story.

I dread the release of the hollywood live action remake. They will shit all over it.

Gonna be Spike Lee's Oldboy all over again

staring Micheal B Jordan

Did it really? That's fucking horrible. Why does Disney continue to be such a tyrant in the industry when they've lost touch with what made then special? Brand recognition?

They pretty much own the industry

Which is fucked up. They have fuck you money and the ability to make those special movies they used to make, yet they lost all of there true talent years ago

Superior film

gentleman and a scholar

Essential trannycore

Movie is shit, manga is good

Would have been better if they'd dropped the gimmicks

It didn’t lose the nom to Boss Baby; it lost to this.

the virgin body switch
the chad deaf mumble

I should really read it, I hear people say that a lot
The film hit me hard, as someone who was an absolute cunt in school

It's alright. It's poorly paced in the middle, when their body-swap experiences get boiled down to a fucking music video, but it picks up near the end. Animation is excellent, but is somewhat wasted on this type of film. I'm glad I saw it, but it's not this grand masterpiece of filmmaking that everyone says it is.

>start the movie
>deaf kid is put into a normal classroom in modern Japan and expected to "just keep up xD"
>close the movie

Maquia is better

>This summer... an unprivileged man of color will meet a white girl from the city.

>one of the best animated films of all time
unironically yes. based movie. not perfect by any means. the random jpop is super weird and pacing feels off at times, but idk man. There's just something special about it. it resonates with you when you watch it, and it's incredibly charming.

also this. ;__;

Utterly gorgeous film, but man does Maquia love to cry. Bitch got on my nerves.

she could hear a little with that device

Oscar nomination = true anime kino

Mirai no mirai was a really comfy watch
Not sure it's up there with the other two though

unironically subverted my expectations multiple times
I really underestimated this movie

The Boss Baby is actually alright. Not Oscar worthy for sure, but I don't know why it became the default movie to shit all over that year when Ferdinand was also nominated.

how much do you want to bet that the guy will be black

>ghibli

Doesn't look like it she literally needs help for everything in class and is completely unable to keep up. Matter of fact I don't even remember a scene where she can hear anything.

It's actually a native american girl and an "urban" man (who will probably be black).

Using a NA girl actually kinda makes sense because it is pretty much the only traditional religion in America that lets you do shit like body swaps, but you bet your ass they will use the movie to preach about the hardships faced by native americans in their reservations and the evil white racists in the city

The movie has scenes with people screaming to her from like 1 meter away and she still cant hear them lmao. How the fuck is she supposed to keep up with class. This movie is completely retarded and inconsistent.

My friends tried to sell it to me as this brilliant animated film. What I got was EXACTLY what I had expected; a well-animated but contrived love story that was, in no way at all, special.

>preach about the hardships faced by native americans
now after that shitstorm with the MAGA kid, yeah probably
however they usually go for males from the minority because its easier to trick female viewers into falling for them and so changing the way they act towards them irl

>There's just something special about it.
>contrived love story that was, in no way at all, special.
who's the chad and who's the pleb, Yea Forums?

Movie is garbage lmao

I guess the "something special" is that beyond a well-crafted love story, Taki and Mitsuha's romance represents a reconciliation between traditional and modern Japan. That seems to be a real omnipresent theme in a lot of Japanese post-war fiction to this day.

>who's the chad and who's the pleb, Yea Forums?
It wasn't *bad*, per se, it was just average; decent. The whole time travel/body swap schtick was very much contrived, and exactly the kind of gimmick you'd expect from anime.

It wont make a fraction of as much money as the original made either.

She also has fucking pink hair lmao

>letting minor inconsistencies get in the way of a great story

Ghibli had nothing to do with it.

>great story
Weebs confirmed for low iq
