Why is The Big Lebowski considered such a classic in American cinema?

He's a skin deep foil to merchant caste work ethic and know how in the US.
The US has such little culture that this man is considered a unique "rebel against the pervading system of thought" to them, but a pointless loser to anyone of character who realizes there's more to life than senseless consumerism and comfort.

Sometimes there's a movie... I won't say a kino, 'cause, what's a kino? But sometimes, there's a movie. And I'm talkin' about The Big Lebowski here. Sometimes, there's a movie, well, it's the movie for its time and place. It fits right in there. And that's The Big Lebowski, in 1998.
Aiden Morgan

not american, but i enjoy the humour in this film. it's definitely not the coens best, and is pretty similar to buster scruggs in that there's basically no plot and it's a movie of memorable and funny moments strung together. that said, it's a fun way to spend an hour and a half and a memorable one at that
Dylan Adams
Shut the fuck up, Donnie
Lincoln Sanchez
