It is my understanding that to a flat earther there's two reasons for the big lie:

1- some amount of money is in fact employed in fields like space technology. The lie enables THOSE ABOVE to get that sum of money for other more egoistic plans.
2- THOSE ABOVE reap the benefits of knowing the hidden truth behind the lies. What are these benefits? They're very undefined, because they're behind the veil of lies and hard to identify. Also, there is a general cosmic rule of nature that if someone KNOWS and another person DOES NOT, the person who knows will always find a way to oppress and rob the other. So even if you can't exactly pinpoint how they're fucking you over, they must be fucking you over.

And you don't think the Vatican, one of the most powerful and influential organizations on Earth with almost unlimited resources wouldn't reveal this to everyone as actual, scientific proof of God?

Someone actually IS profiting from flat earth theory, albeit not in the way you're thinking. Allow me to drop an actual, unironic redpill:

A lot of conspiracy theories (and I mean a LOT) are seeded by the US government in an effort to discredit the concept of conspiracy theories. Look up operation mockingbird, and be aware that it's just one sliver of a broader sphere of social manipulation elements implemented by the CIA.

So what you have with flat earth is a bulk of just the most retarded, gullible people on the planet parroting something patently stupid; and while they're all legit about it, the initial "seed" of pushing it so hard comes from the government. This way, if someone brings up something uncomfortable like "why are there so many weapons manufacturers in charge of the US military", mainstream media sources can say that's a conspiracy theory, and then point to the flat earthers and the ancient aliens people and so on to discredit that avenue of questioning.

So to answer the question: the US government profits from propagating flat earth, and they might as well continue to do so because it takes minimal effort to plant that "seed" by posting some dumb stuff and then you sit back and let the crazies do most of the work for you.
