Agreed. It's too good and has ruined all other movies for me.

“It looks great but I struggle to see why that film was necessary. I just think if something is so beautiful, you should just leave it alone and make another film. Don't lean with one elbow on the success that was earned over 30 years in the underground.
In many ways, Blade Runner wasn't about the replicants, it was about what does it mean to be human? It's like E.T. But I'm not certain what the question was in the second Blade Runner. It's not a character-driven movie and there's no humour, there's no love, there's no soul.
You can see the homage to the original. But that's not enough to me. I knew that wasn't going to work. But I think it's not important what I think."

You have a really low standard then

I thought it was a visually stunning film with an interesting story that didn't shit over the original like so many other sequels do.

I'm not sure what more can be asked of it.
Is it as good as the original? No, of course not. But does it have to be?

>didnt shit all over the original
Aside from bringing Deckard back and having Rachel get preg which makes no fucking sense

>It's not a character-driven movie and there's no humour
This reads like a Yea Forums brainlet post.
Rutger Hauer was a based actor, now sadly he became a yet another demented out of touch old forgotten man with no firm grasp on reality.

Why doesn't it make sense?

Still don't consider that shitting on the original at all.

Best film of the 2010s alongside Hard to be a God and Under the Skin

Because shes a fucking robot?
You telling me that Tyrell made this prototype replicant with his niece's memories and set up this elaborate plan to get Deckard to meet her and hope he falls in love with her so he could breed with her and make a replibaby?
Thats so absolutley stupid its not even funny

>Replicants are robots
Aaaand stopped reading there.

Replicants are not robots you absolute mental midget

>makes a fair criticism of a movie that takes credit for something he helped create
>lol stupid old man get with the times
Kys

Its not defined what they are at all in Blade Runner
2049 did

>a Blade Runner film has no humour
>"fair criticism"
Ahhh yes, the first Blade Runner was absolutely filled with quips and non stop jokes all around, a real slap comedy.

And calling it not character driven is even more absurd, the entire film is literally about the character development of K from the first frame till the last one, even more so than the first film.

>and set up this elaborate plan to get Deckard to meet her and hope he falls in love with her so he could breed with her and make a replibaby?
no that was just something Leto said to unsettle him and wink at Ridley's retarded unicorn

I think he was trying to conceptualize the fact that Blade Runner 2049 takes itself way too seriously without any justification. Original BR had a contained story in a massive world, BR2049 is about the literal eNd Of tHe WorLd!!111 and replicants having a revolution n sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit

>retarded unicorn
How is it retarded what? Did you watch the ending of the movie?

Replicants used to be robots but the NEXUS replicants were clones. That's why Roy seeks out one of the genetic engineers who designed his eyes. Also Roy tries to talk Tyrell into modifying his DNA so he doesn't have to die, obviously they're genetic clones. Pay attention lol

they are assembled like machines you dunderheads. that's why it's such a deal that in 2049 Rachel... I am wasting my time here.

also Hauer is right. but you empty soiboys have no feelings because daddy left you and mommy fucked noggers. that's why you can relate to K and think he's super deep. you just like this movie because you are the same NPC shitter like he is.

Name a better scene in all of 2010s

If they were just robots, you wouldn't need to do a psychological test to see if they were real or not. A blood test would work just fine... like, to see if they actually had blood or not.

this but unironically

fucking lmao are you 12 or just legitimately mentally ill

spbp

I thought it was an Ash from Alien type scenario since they had superhuman strength and so forth.

If they were convincing enough you would
Anyway I conceded I'm wrong on that
Doesnt change the fact that the whole thing is a bit retarded, if Tyrell really had this crazy plan in place that depended purely on luck

That guy isnt me, some retard false flagger.

There's no "luck", it's all programmed.

It was too good for this world.

Where are you getting the idea from that Rachel was supposed to be capable of carrying children? I thought that bit was left unexplained.

So Tyrell created Deckard too? And Deckard was also a prototype replicant?
That opens up a whole other can of worms.
It was left ambiguous in BR for a reason.

You're actually retarded. Stick to capeshit.

La La Land.

>2049 fan is an Evashit fan
Totally expected a fan of pseud meaningless deepshit would enjoy this movie

Recite your baseline.
"And blood-black nothingness began to spin... A system of cells interlinked within cells interlinked within cells interlinked within one stem... And dreadfully distinct against the dark, a tall white fountain played."
Cells.
Cells.
Have you ever been in an institution? Cells.
Cells.
Do they keep you in a cell? Cells.
Cells.
When you're not performing your duties do they keep you in a little box? Cells.
Cells.
Interlinked.
Interlinked.
What's it like to hold the hand of someone you love? Interlinked.
Interlinked.
Did they teach you how to feel finger to finger? Interlinked.
Interlinked.
Do you long for having your heart interlinked? Interlinked.
Interlinked.
Do you dream about being interlinked... ?
Interlinked.
What's it like to hold your child in your arms? Interlinked.
Interlinked.
Do you feel that there's a part of you that's missing? Interlinked.
Interlinked.
Within cells interlinked.
Within cells interlinked.
Why don't you say that three times: Within cells interlinked.
Within cells interlinked. Within cells interlinked. Within cells interlinked.

It's left ambiuous in BR2049 aswell. Hence that entire Wallace talk with Deckard

Nah.
It was great.
Too long tho, sadly.
And the bad God Complex.
Aside from that, it's leggendary.

"kino" stands for cinema, a book isn't a piece of cinema you retarded redditor.

But you just told me he was programmed

Could be either way.

Well that is the entire fucking point, are we also just "programmed" to fall in love with a person or not etc, the most basic of questions which both films explore

where can I buy that jumper??

I dont mind it but what I hate is nu-BR fans who claim its better than the original when they clearly havent watched it. The original is lightning in a jar, there will never be anything like it again.

I love the first BR and have seen it many times and I still prefer the new one.
Thinking that any of them are outright bad is a sign of a true zoomer plot point pleb though.

Why do you prefer the new one? It lacks the character depth and the attention to detail of the first imo.
This guy pretty much nails all my issues with it.

K "arc":
K learns that he is not special, which leads him to do something that is presumed as being special. So is he now special?
SPECIAL SPECIAL SPECIAL
fuck this shit.

Well both films are great on their own merits, but in some departments the new one is most definitely better to me, for example the romantic subplot of K and his virtual waifu is ten times more genuinely emotionally investing and moving than the absolutely flat romance with non existent chemistry we got from Deckard and Rachael in the original. Also extending the narrative from the "human - replicant" to "replicant - AI" aswell.
And K is a much better and more explored protagonist than the one note Deckard in the original, with BR2049 having a better more consistent character development of all the characters throughout the entire narrative, not just mostly in the third act like in the first one.

There is a reason why everyone talks about Roy Batty when talking about the first one, not Deckard.

I completely disagree with you on every point

I disagree. Deckard being a deadpan human is the point, while the reps are emotinal. K is a stoic weirdo with spastic outbursts. Deck is a cynical asshole who wants to die. It's very compelling (and grown-up).

And I never cared about a shitty ROMANCE in my dystopian sci-fi movie to begin with. Let it be rough and uncomfortable instead of 'choose your robo-waifu, fuck police-chief or robo-hooker'.

>K is a much better and more explored protagonist than the one note Deckard in the original
You could tell so much about Deckard with no needed exposition, I liked K but Deckard was way more fleshed out.

The "You look like a good Joe" scene.

I find your deliberate juvenile over generalisation a bit pathetic. One could easily make the same exact non argument against the first one, calling Roy a weirdo with spastic outbursts and the old ENHANCE memery, but that would be extremely juvenile and middle school level of (non) argument forming.

>You could tell so much about Deckard with no needed exposition,
Same exact thing with K. You learn so much about K in the opening sequence with literally no dialogue at all whatsoever.

Deckard and Rachel have a more natural relationship. Its spontaneous because love quite often is. Its almost violent because they're both immature (especially if deckard is a replicant, then they are both experiencing the same thing that roy and the other are experiencing). Strong emotions and strong reactions to emotions is a common theme in BR. The replicants are experiencing "feeling" for the first time.
Deckard is supposed to be "one note". Providing the replicant theory is true, he is simply fulfilling his programmed duty. He is as one note as you would expect a replicant to be. He doesn't start breaking the mold until after his experiences with Rachel and he starts to feel emotion.

Roy is definitley an outstanding performance but Roy is going through many of the same things Deckard is. Its why they come together at the end and understand each other on a mutual level.

The uncut version is even more kino. We need the 4 hour 46 min cut.
