Alien is the absolute best, aliens is great, alien 3 is still enjoyable but it's far far less good; I guess you should watch 4 while you're at it, but it's trash, the prometheus films are better than 4 but still awful.

fuck this guy, alien 3 is good, I honestly do not fucking understand all the hate for it, maybe cus it kinda ruined the ending of 2 for alot of people. I personally kinda like it more than 2, alien resurrection is the worst but its a fun cheesy watch which you can just throw out of your mind easy. Prometheus doesn't actually have much alien aliens and its not all that scary but its not bad writing and has some good philosophical themes to it, covenant continues those themes but it tries to bring scary back into it again and falls short with bad cgi and editing, but still kinda interesting.

3 is watchable but ending it with Aliens is much more satisfying.

Hi guy, Alien is my favorite film. I'd recommend the original 1979 theatrical release, instead of the 2003 director's cut. I'd then recommend the director's cut of Aliens, the second movie. Take it as far as you please, just be warned it doesn't get any better, in my view at least.

Pretty much everyone agrees that the original is great (that's why there's a franchise, after all). Users here like to shit on Aliens for generational reasons, but historically it's (correctly) regarded as an excellent action film. Basically, it all goes downhill from there. You might like the third film, Alien^3. It has many sincere defenders (I am not one of them) and is far bleaker, but this might be for you.

The fourth film, Alien:Resurrection has some camp value but was totally unnecessary. This leads us into the AvP/Prometheus stuff, where it's roughly as dire. The first AvP flick has some slight charm actually, but you need the rest of the basic lore to understand what's going on. Prometheus is poorly-paced and poorly-thought-out, but it does have some cool violence (one very good wrenching scene mirrors a famous scene of the original, I will not say more).

Not him but Alien threads are shitting contests for the most part. It's Alien vs Alien vs Alien 3 contrarians and almost always shitting on the prequels. People are incapable of talking about them without getting overly emotional.

Pretty much this guy answered for me. Cars and films are my 2 hobbies but Yea Forums and /o/ are the worst boards for actually discussing stuff. Too much shitposting and contrarians. I saw someone say avpr should be held up as one of the better films in the series a few weeks ago FFS.

I just watched Alien 3 for the first time. It was ok at first, but holy fuck is the ending action sequence confusingly shot. It's ridiculous even without the incredibly ugly CGI alien that continuously changes size between shots.
Prometheus and Covenant were much more enjoyable to watch just for Fassbender's characters alone.
