Alien Resurrection

so why exactly did they hire some literally who unknown French director for this movie?

Joss whedon, the rapist?

He only wrote it.

David Fincher was pretty much a literally who unknown when he made 3. Even Ridley Scott hadn't done much when he made Alien.

Whedons shit script was the worst thing about this movie

>Casting is storytelling. I wrote two characters for Alien: Resurrection and their arc was that you would not know what way they were going to go. One of them turned out to be insane - and what do they do? They call Brad Dourif. So there is no plot twist. Brad is a very good actor but he has been pigeonholed into these roles. Then they case J.E. Freeman as a thug - and his character was also supposed to be a mystery. So there you go again - the mystery is gone. Those are just a couple of examples because there are thousands of them when it comes to Alien: Resurrection."

Honestly alien 4 was based as fuck for messing with joss that bad

The franchise has always been a hallmark for visual and special effect innovation, the directors have never been major players at the time of working on the series, it has always been something of a springboard, Ridley Scott hadn't done anything spectacular when he made the first one, James Cameron had the first Terminator, Alien 3 was David Fincher's first feature film, Jeunet was a decent choice, his work was known for being fantastic (as in "fantasy-tic, not "AMAZING"), macabre and with tongue-in-cheek humor, while I'm not a big fan of Resurrection I can appreciate that they went with a new approach, it was a bit more experimental, American audiences would have been split between those whose tastes ranged to the exotic and were familiar with City of Lost Children or Delicatessen, and those who were more conventional and approached it without prior knowledge or expectations, reactions were likely divided, visually it is excellent, by turns beautiful and grotesque, the characters seem like a cross between the Marines of Aliens and the Knights of Monty Python

Ripley should have never appeared,
it shouldve been about weiland cloning the space jockey, mixing it with humans so they could learn new technology, instead of the queen it shouldve been a new space jockey who would then telepathically control the other mutants
No xenomorphs, just giger inspired monsters

You can even argue that james cameron was well untested as a director and another literally who. He only got into the initial talks about an alien sequal because a single fox producer really saw potential in his terminator screenplay (both rambo II & terminator weren't out at this point) and cameron showed off how savy they were being with their shoestring budget.

I dunno but every line pic related had was fucking great.

it was always a thing on the Alien movies to hire a new guy
Ridley Scott and James Cameron had only directed one previous movie
Fincher had only directed tv commercials
The hope is they bring something fresh and interesting
They're also cheap and easy to control
City of Lost Children and Delicatessen were perfectly fine films but the directors sensibilities weren't necessarily in line with what would work for an Alien film
But the whole thing was a cash grab to begin with

>Ridley Scott hadn't done anything spectacular when he made the first one
u wot m8, he did The Duellists

>jean-pierre Jeunet
>litteraly who

He did Amelie

true

YO DONNIE

He did Amelie after this. Before he got the gig, he had done Delicatessen (grossed just over 10M) and The City of Lost Children (grossed under 2M).

every director for alien movies were litterally who unknown.

LOL EPIC

>blames casting of all things for his weak script

Yeah, that's one of his better roles.

>only
The script is the most important part

Which is one of his worst movies

HE DID LA CITE DES ENFANTS PERDUS
HE DID DELICATESSEN
and he also did kickass short films such as LE BUNKER DE LA DERNIERE RAFALE

it was the best choice.

Whedon shat out a lame fucking script, they had to get a really good director to elevate it and they did.
