But the CGI is so convincing. She hardly moves like a fake character, they got her motions down perfectly. I don't think the critics realize that by not seeing how seamless the CGI, they miss the artistry and effort to ACHIEVE JUST THAT. Also, all of the best characters of late aren't real. Alita, Thanos, some Rabbit and Tree.

Why'd you agree to that?

The arc of the story, the very core of its plot, is how Alita manages to keep her sense of self through relentless existential assaults. The world is inexorable in its attempts to strip her identity. She plows through crisis after crisis only getting focused and stronger, more herself each time.

It's a good premise, but it eventually becomes a trope in its own universe. Kishiro never really figured out how to move the story on from there. This is why the first ending was so rushed and forced. Then why it was retconnned for Last Order only to go way over the top yet end much the same way.

This is why she shrugs off the chip revelation. By the time she learns that she's already had so much taken from her it's not much in comparison.

Sometimes it seems that the author has only Alita and the deadline for putting the chapter.
I hope to see a complete story in the films.

Kishiro is definitely going to be a hard one to get, unless this movie's success compels him to do the convention circuit. Jimbo is already tough if you don't live in LA/NY and have connections at the airport or local restaurants to tip you off.

Dredd really got fucked. It was a great 3D film and pulled from theaters in two weeks. Glad I caught it on the last day. Had word of mouth spread quickly, it could have made like $100m worldwide easily.

The first ending isn't rushed, it's the only possible outcome of the clash of those two archetypes (Alita and Nova). If anything, it's the middle part that was too long.

Last Order takes the worst things about the original and turns them into Gantz-like siliness.

It will take Kishiro realizing his own limitations as a storyteller, comprehending the problem, and figuring out how to overcome it. At this point I don't think there's anyone he'll listen to. He's had fans blowing smoke up his ass for decades so he probably thinks he can do no wrong. And he may be beyond his most creative years.

This is why I'm kind of okay with not getting a sequel. The film ended on high note that suggested the story to come. We know how it's ended before, and if sequels end the same way it's not going to be satisfying. I don't want to see Alita become another Matrix franchise. A bittersweet cutoff is an ending I can live with.

Theaters/Studios were in the wrong. It was likely just about to pick up steam and then poof, gone from theaters right as people were hearing good things. People were livid. I guess everyone just assumed it was going to be schlock and skipped it.

Slow but steady. I am particularly interested in this coming weekend, however. It's bizarre how Avatar cast such a wide net and got basically the entire movie going audience. Alita didn't, but it did get the right audience. If a sequel gets made, it's made just for the fans.
