Honestly thought this was Miami Connection for a second there. Would Goose be good and loose for MC2?

>HM2 sucked
It was way better. The perfect sequel.
Kevin Kelly
>HM2 sucked
It's unfairly frustrating but that doesn't mean it sucks. I still had fun and the story shit was interesting.
David Wright
>dude everyone dies lmao
It felt like the devs didn't know how to end the story so they decided to nuke everyone.
Dominic Price
Its the escalation of violence. If they pull a knife, you pull a gun and so on and so forth.
I do think they could've foreshadowed it better beyond Richard going "oooOOOoooh there's gonna be a twist spooooky". Most of the political context hinting at it, mentioning the conference, san fran bombing anniversary and public russian hate-crimes, is also hidden in newspapers and shit.
But it makes sense considering that was the main fear of the Cold War and the ending sequence is pure kino with the final richard conversation and music.
Carter Wright
Wouldn't work as a film adaptation. The whole point is it talks to the player and that you're the whole committing the violence. I guess they're are ways to get around that in a film, but it wouldn't be nearly as impactful.
Christopher Hughes
Goose is Jacket
Ayden Thomas
wouldnt be hard to retool that to the audience getting kicks from watching violence
Anthony Baker
Funny Games already did that, and there's probably other movies with the same premise.
Charles Sanchez
Wrong HM2 has Death Wish and Takeover, absolute god tier levels
Michael Richardson
Hotline Miami: SOUL
Hotline Miami SOULESS
Ethan Jenkins
How did you guys even follow the story? Ive beat it 3 times and have no idea whats going on or name a single character. I even looked it up once and it still didnt make much sense
Luis Collins
I meant HM2 as soulless, FUCK
Easton Ortiz
Soundtrack yeah. Story was more fleshed out in the second which was also good, but the gameplay was hot dogshit compared to the first.
Brody Reyes
what the fuck man
William Reed
HM1: The first 3 parts are Jacket's coma dream, reliving what has happened up until Richter (the Rat-faced assassin) shot him. Part 4 is Jacket in real life taking revenge on the Mafia who he mistakenly thinks was behind the calls. Part 5 is Biker finding the truth. Who the fuck knows what happened in phone hom when they fought and both thought they killed the other.
HM2: It's basically just Pulp Fiction's style of non-linear storytelling across a larger time frame. Except the Pig Butcher scenes who knows what the fuck that was about.
Colton Hernandez
>pure kino with the final richard conversation
>"leaving this world is not as scary as it sounds"

I don't know why people like HM more than HM2. HM had more freedom, but HM2 had a better flow for me.
Jeremiah Cook
hahaha. he messed up! how embarrassing hahahahaha
Josiah Jenkins

Camden Cooper
The gameplay was just an evolution of the first. It's harder yeah a lot harder but it's still doable with time and practice and it is so satisfying to master it. It's not like the first game where you can just melee almost everything. Enemies are smarter and placed in better positions. You have to react quicker. Also unlike HM1 it doesnt have a half-dozen useless weapons, 2 has more enemy and player character variety. I will admit Dead Ahead and Take Over on Hard Mode are both utter bullshit.
git gud
If HM2 was soulless it would have had some stupid happy ending, jacket would've been the main protagonist again, gameplay would be easier not harder. It would've just appealed to the market instead of fulfilling the vision Dennaton had and wanted to make.
Jordan Morales
i took 3 tabs have acid and beat this game in 6 hours and 20 minutes. it was great.
Dylan Murphy
>It's basically just Pulp Fiction's style of non-linear storytelling
Except there was a point at Pulp Fiction's non-linearity compared to HM2 doing it for no apparent reason
Elijah Wilson
Guess ill never understand the story
Parker Hall
>but HM2 had a better flow
>play the whole game holding shift
>peak & shoot: the game
>windows in literally every conceivable location
>all enemies have guns
>the mother fucking powerplant level
lmao

the best thing this entire site ever did was make Pardo posting, I miss it almost every day
Robert Green
>Enemies are smarter and placed in better positions.
The only major issue with HM2 is that the level design is ass. Too many open areas with enemies off screen (that you can’t even Shift-drag to see in the distance). HM1 had smaller buildings where you could actually see enemy placement and strategize. HM2 was just baiting enemies and then hiding until they were in site. It didn’t require for skill, it required the the player to effectively cheese the whole game. HM1 was more about player reaction than anything.
Sebastian Russell
And what would you say was the point of Pulp Fiction's non linear storytelling?

Not if you want to get a grade above B. Stringing together combos required speed, precision and memorization.
I will say the big problem I found with level design is with the Fans. Because they all played very differently it created problems.
Moving Up is hard if you play Tony because it has long corridors. It's piss easy as any other fan because you can just shoot the fuckers. Similarly Corey's dodge roll is useless because none of the levels are designed with it in mind so the other Fans can complete it.
Also weapon pick ups. The way they designed weapon pick ups is so stupid. You always pick up the most recently dropped weapon if they are close together.

Other then that the gameplay was great, it's such a thrilling rush.
Anyways who plays Beard?
Gabriel Cook
sam hyde
Landon Gray
His career is over, plus I can't see him doing any of the over the top violence in either of the Hotline Miami games.

Well yeah, just like the first game combos and time were the point. I’m not arguing that, and that’s fun when the levels allow for that.
I didn’t find the levels in HM2 to make me want to learn enemy placement and all that jazz. It’s just walking in open areas and being instantly shot by an enemy offscreen that you can’t even see with the Shift-drag. You only find out enemy placement by dying to them, and this happens a lot. Same with the window placement. The above would be a minor issue if it was a only in a couple levels and instances, but it’s the bulk of the game. I only kept myself playing because of the batshit (for better or worse) plot and music. Unlike the first game where actually playing it seemed fun. As another user stated the flow was completely different.

HM1 = Drive
HM2 = Fight Club

why do you feel like you need liquor to enjoy yourself, user?

HM 1 was perfect and very replayable with the only bad part being the AI that sometimes bugs out and wanders out of the predetermined path.
HM 2 got stale for me halfway through the second playthrough.
Also best song: youtu.be
Waking up to this on a hot summer morning is great.
