Vic Fontaine was the best character in DS9. He knew he was a hologram designed to love singing and accepted his programming, choosing to make the most of every moment and experience life in all it's color and fury. He always encouraged people to open their hearts and develop their individual talents. Even when characters wanted to be emotionally closed off he found a way to break through and get them to open up. That wasn't because of his programmed charm, it was because he genuinely cared about the people he felt privileged to spend time with. Vic Fontaine is the friend we all wish we had.
