He's really not that funny. Played one good role where I imagine a lot of the material was written by Merchant. Rest is just laughing excessively hard at Karl Pilkington and being 'edgy' at award shows.

Any time Gervais is left to his own devices, it's utter shit. He has yet to produce anything on his own that's any good. His stand up is awful. The show he wrote (Derrick) was god awful. "The Invention Of Lying" was awful.

He's not getting parts. That's all you need to know. Nobody wants to hire him. He's doing voice acting for B level animation now. He hasn't crashed and burned as hard as Amy Schumer or Lena Dunham, but pretty damned close.

Granted, Merchant hasn't done much better, he's at his best writing characters based on the worst parts of Gervais's personality, and make Gervais act it, which is what The Office and Extras was - him making Gervais make fun of himself.

It was better than Derrick. And, I watched, because I like Maggie.
