>DoP Hoyte van Hoytema is planning to re-team with Christopher Nolan on his upcoming production scheduled to begin filming this June. The Warner Bros. feature is described as a romantic thriller, NORTH BY NORTHWEST in tone meets INCEPTION.
I don't think I could handle it. Imagine the endless memes
Lucas Edwards
everything has been done there
David Hill
he probably is, actually.
Grayson Young
Because the longer your brainwavelengths get, the less cognition you have. Dreams tend to happen when your brain waves are still pretty fast and energetic. Deep sleep is when your brain waves slowdown and you don’t get any dreams with those. It’s basically a comatose state. You can assume as you go deeper in dream levels your brain waves are slowing down as time is slowing down.
What happened to this guy? Is he still trying to make it as a director? That film he made with Johnny Depp was bad.
Jackson Johnson
I mean maybe it wasn’t such a loss
Aiden Phillips
Dreams are manifestations of your subconscious, once you're dreaming within three levels there's no more subconscious to explore. Movie's shit anyway, anyone would go insane instantly when waking up after trying to handle like three levels of dreams and the extreme time dilation.
Nathan Evans
>still not divorced how did he do it?
Ethan Reed
>Nolan >kino More like exposition ridden garbage.
Levi Roberts
4 kids
Kayden Perry
I dream of having a wife and children and then having my wife die so I can properly raise my children without her.
Jonathan Scott
Disappointing! He should be making 2061: Odyssey Three while Keir Dullea is still alive.
he's the only director who can make me buy a movie ticket
Blake Murphy
soul soulless
James Kelly
Dune, Avatar 2, new Nolan, Godzilla vs Kong, new Bond film. 2020 will be the year where capeshit finally falls.
And that's just the blockbusters
Anthony Phillips
Avatard killed cinema
Ian Robinson
And now it will kill both capeshit and starshit.
Jaxson Brooks
Nolan is the most soulless director there is.
Bentley Thomas
>NORTH BY NORTHWEST in tone meets INCEPTION >Guaranteed attractive leads >Old-school class >Slick aesthetic >Archetypal characters >No subversion K I N O K I N O K I N O I N O
shills think samefagging will change the fact that Nolan is the most profitable blockbuster director working right now
Ayden Young
go ahead and most whatever shitty arthouse histrionic director you feel is soulful, we'll wait
John Roberts
Boring premise for a boring director.
Liam Phillips
Didn't live in Hollywood, didn't rape kids and eat their flesh at Ari Emanuel and Tony Podesta's parties, based his offices in London to work with his wife and 2 other partners, and made billions of dollars for studios so they never bothered him about anything.
So it’s pretty much confirmed that this is the porn movie then, right? “Romantic thriller” sounds close to the CDAN leak
Justin Reed
For example Peter Greenaway.
Jonathan Jenkins
He's got a big heart.
Thomas James
>Romantic That leak made it sound like the super-secret filming process for the project was more kino than the film itself. I hope they do a BTS documentary despite all the secrecy and don't pull some navel-gazing fart-huffing bullshit faggotry the way Innaritu did when he prohibited discussion of the special effects used to build the bear in the Revenant for MUH ARTISTIC IMMERSION even though it pissed off fans and cost his vfx artists the oscar.
Based Chris still not falling for cheap trends and doing what he legitimately likes.
Jaxson Diaz
bring it
Gavin Ortiz
Pulling off getting bald.
Levi Diaz
JUST
This guy shot Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception and The Dark Knight Rises (4 Oscar nominations, 1 win), then he decided that he wants to be a director, directed Johnny Depp in Transcendence (huge flop, 20% on RT) and now that Nolan's replaced him with Hoytema, his career is basically in the toilet.
After Transcendence he has directed few episodes of TV shows nobody has ever heard of and last year he directed and DP'd a 1 minute short film called "Taco Bell: Web of Fries II - Franchise Wars"
I kinda feel bad for him but from his interviews I get the feeling that he's a cunt so fuck him LOL
Logan Collins
...
Caleb Smith
> Nolan > Romance Heh, maybe the writers and actors can make it work.
Daniel Martin
Nolan has been living in LA for years
Tyler White
GREAT ANOTHER MOVIE ABOUT A SCENE WITH A PLANE IN IT
Who is the more chad hairliner, Nolan or Rutger Hauer?
Jace Torres
porn is romance? north by northwest meets inception and your conclusion is that its the porn movie. wtf are you talkin about
Oliver Reed
He's not an American local and even though he moved to LA like 20 years ago, he's known for being entirely absent from Hollywood gatherings. He doesn't live in the Hollywood bubble at all. Dude's a ghost. No one even knew about the existence of his third, murderer brother until recently.
John Hill
You'll need to open it in fullscreen. Worth the read though.
I was just thinking I needed a bloated 3 hour romance with paper thin characters and overblown dialog. I kinda hoped he was going the historical movie route after dunkirk.
Jordan Gutierrez
>north by northwest meets inception Did that come from Nolan? When he was making Inception people called it a James Bond heist film before anyone saw the trailers and realized the whole thing about dreams was a big part of it.
Jacob Thompson
>I was just thinking I needed a bullet in your mouth, user. a bullet in your mouth is what unproductive faggots like you "need".
The Captain Marvel thread needs reinforcements faggot. Head on over and defend your kween.
Colton Thomas
I'm intrigued. Interstellar was a visual treat but it's emotional impact was bad. Still felt cold as it tried to handle love. But he found something with Dunkirk as it's a well done and it's Nolan challenging himself while still keeping a few tricks of his under his belt. And he also makes the emotional impact work.
I'd say it's time. Make his love interest Haley Atwell.
>Still felt cold as it tried to handle love. Everyone with whom I discussed that film who had been separated from their family due to work or travel or deing deployed or whatever other reason loved the emotional stuff in it. The whole tesseract scene where he's breaking down trying to stop himself from leaving hit home with a lot of people that miss out on memories with their families for work they do to support them. It's a great /dadcore/ film.
Joseph James
Based. You can be sure the love interest will be a white beautiful woman aswell.
Chase Young
Going to be Anne Hathaway
Andrew Martin
Attractive cast is unironically one of the best reasons to be excited about this
>tfw Baneposting 2.0 >tfw we get real life baneposting again too
Caleb Rodriguez
I actually thought this was supposed to be saying Goose should play younger Nolan in a biopic
Blake Bell
He and Lucas were also one of the rares that didn't sign Weinstein's Roman Polanski did nothing wrong petition.
Anthony Miller
Yup. I remember that. I was actually interning in HW at the time and a year later, at the start of senior year, I locked down job offers at two major agencies, one of which has been in the news for a scandal brought to light by a very popular and wholesome actor, that I eventually turned down by the end of the year because of how fucked things are there. Even fucking Michael Mann signed that shit.
I really wanted to love Dunkirk, and so much of the movie is good (especially visually), but it ultimately felt lacking. Did anyone feel the same?
Caleb Scott
>Wes Anderson >Darren Aronofsky >Martin Scorsese >David Lynch >Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu >Woody Allen >Terry Gilliam >Alfonso Cuaron >Wong Kar Waï >Harmony Korine >Emir Kusturica >John Landis >Alexander Payne >Paolo Sorrentino >Wim Wenders >Tilda Swinton >Penelope Cruz >Monica Bellucci >Harrison Ford
Joseph Morris
But it always felt forced. Didn't really work for me. But I will say that awful comment Hathaway says about love outlasting time rubbed me wrong until I met the woman of my life. It's stil an awful piece of dialogue but i understand it a lot now.
Nathan Cook
Him and Zack Snyder are ideal male directors.
Jeremiah Wright
>Mendes >Neil Jordan >Bertolucci >Natalie Portman (she later apologized) >Jonathan Demme >Steven Soderbergh
>and John FUCKING Milius
Shit, guess they stick together.
Lincoln Ortiz
>But I will say that awful comment Hathaway says about love outlasting time rubbed me wrong until I met the woman of my life. I never got the criticism of that scene. It sounds like bullshit to everyone in the ship. She doesn't believe it herself. It makes total sense that you'd scoff at her in that scene. Why people think Nolan wanted to sincerely, unironically tug at heartstrings when it's so painfully obvious what he's doing is so baffling.
It's the side effect of him being so popular with your average spic tier crowd. Take this for example - I don't watch anime but I got into Attack on Titan and it has a character named Erwin Smith who's compelling because he's basically a con artist heading a branch of the military that's really good at bullshitting people into following him to their deaths. Dude's a great leader but he's in it for his own goals, he just happens to be really good at inspiring people to follow him and die without ever doubting his intentions. This lays the basis for some of the best character development I've seen in years. But if you watch the anime version on YT in reaction compilations, everyone popular who watches the show unironically believes he's a great sincere leader. They're as swept up in his speeches as the fictional soldiers in the show itself. Some of them even start crying. It's amazing.
Same with the whole "you look like a good Joe" scene in 2049. The amount of people who unironically fell for the "he's jus liek me" and "horny and lonely" memes completely misconstrued the film and fell for exactly the traps that it was pointing out. It's mind blowing.
(contd) It's just amazing how harmful ideas of "muh subjectivity" have been to sincere discussion of film. Film is one of the most limiting and controlled mediums, both in its production and in its end result, in terms of how much room it leaves for the viewer's interpretation/visualization/imagination to play. Two people's interpretations of a film will be drastically less divergent than their interpretations of a book. Yet you'll never see most people acknowledge that. Death of the Author's been a fucking blight on film discussion tbqh.
Have you read the blind item rumors? This will be the kino of the century.
Kevin Gomez
kinda yeah. i liked it but it lacks that nolan grandiose style or straight up thrilling like prestige
John Peterson
Even as a legitimate lit major, Death of the Author is one of the worst things to happen to critical theory in general. Most people are retarded. Therefore, so are most of their interpretations.
Brayden King
Yeah I linked it in this thread. Anyone else working on it would be meh and degenerate with a story like that but I want to see Nolan's take.
Leo Hernandez
>gray bar >"I'M NOT THE MAN YOU'RE LOOKING FOR." >"YES YOU ARE, THAT MAN IS..." >cutaway to even grayer bar where the man who isn't the man is shown as if he really is the man >"SUPPOSED TO MEET US RIGHT HERE."
Jacob Foster
I remember one time in a meeting during college where I started picking the brain of one of those super woke kids talking about a film and just dismissing other people's comments with no logic or rationale except muh feels. I won't recount the whole back and forth but the most amazing part was when I jokingly said - >Okay then, fine just get rid of standards for everything. What do we need categories for, right? And she said, with full sincerity >Yes! I agree I thought maybe she'd just gotten exasperated at the probing so I went >Hold on. You're serious? You don't think there should be standards for anything? >No, there shouldn't! Exactly!
I just said alright then and left it at that. One of my earliest redpills on the state of things.
Hudson Gutierrez
I know just the kind of person, and the kind of scene, you're describing. It's as if they lack all kinds of common sense and self-awareness; they truly think these things they imagine are right and can't see just how fucked that kind of thinking is.
It's disheartening and disgusting all at once.
Austin Ramirez
>more genreshit nolan is such a fucking hack
Jose Flores
Everything is in a genre you sperg
Isaiah Gonzalez
>genreshit Wtf?
Austin Bennett
ofc woody'd sign it
Owen Brown
What's wrong with Roman Polanski? Don't tell me you guys are antisemitic by chance?
Michael Martinez
>Don't tell me you guys are antisemitic by chance? by choice and by strong discretion, kike.
Dylan Gray
>tfw no Nolan-directed ASMR movie without a script
Connor Nguyen
I am anti-usury, war, genocide, slavery, pornography, pop culture, communism, capitalism; therefore...
user have you ever experienced a k-hole? It's perfectly possible to experience massive time dilation and then come back to reality, albeit doing it over and over might turn you nutty like Mal
Landon Cooper
Oy vey! I will hastily report this fiendish site to the JIDF.
Connor Ross
>and John FUCKING Milius Milius hasn't been exactly all there since his stroke.
Leo Hill
>ROMANCE DOLAN, PLS
JUST STICK TO THAT DUNKIRK AUTISM
LIKE 1 ROASTY ON SCREEN FOR 5 SECONDS, ON KITCHEN DUTY SERVING FOOD LMAO
Landon Gray
Petition was year earlier. But, truth be told I think a lot of these people signed this thing without really knowing all the details. Weinstein came to them sold them a spiel which I bet he's good at and they signed. Emma Thompson signed as well and then when she read up on the case asked to be removed from the petition.
The wiki page doesn't go into any of what's described in the blind item. I hope it's true desu, it'll have as kino a cast as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's. Also yes, for those wondering the woman is the one with that reaction gif of her taking off the sunglasses, looking down, and going "ooh yeah" and then putting them back on.
Nicholas Adams
>k-hole No, I'm not a degenerate
Adrian Campbell
This is completely made up bullshit btw
Brayden Stewart
I thoroughly enjoyed Dunkirk.
Nolan Collins
You found Interstellar emotionally dull but liked Dunkirk Interesting take bud
Julian Price
>Terry Gilliam I thought he was /ourguy/
Jaxon Watson
It's still hard to believe this guy did The Lion King.
Jacob Clark
Starred by Mackenzie Foy
Wyatt Baker
Why, the Zimmer hate train is a meme, he did a wonderful job with The Last Samurai, Thin Red Line, Gladiator and many more
Samuel Cox
LEL
EVERY FEMALE IN THE NOLANVERSE IS BASICALLY JUST A PLOT DEVICE FOR THE MALE LEAD
A TRUE CLASSICAL TRADITIONAL GENDER ROLE SHITLORD
Hudson Kelly
I just wouldn't expect him to do an animated Disney musical, much less win an oscar for it, after listening to all his other scores. It'd be like Trent Reznor doing a Disney movie.
Ryder Powell
funny how his only oscar is for the mouse, while he made dozens of better scores
Jason Jackson
What the fuck? When did he get so old?
Matthew Butler
Dunkirk was soaked with spiritual subtext. Tarkovsky would have watched it twice in one sitting.
Kayden Perez
Finally a more grounded movie I was getting tired of his blockbuster phase
This is also a blockbuster user, released in July 2020
Julian Bennett
not a single Nolan film has ever bombed, financially or critically the man is an industry God
Caleb Long
Why the fuck does he take so long to make Kino? Man of steel and interstellar 2013 and 2014 and then u jump 3 years later to 2017 and we have dunkirk, now another 3 years and we have another movie. Fucking hell, what a faggot.
Dylan Harris
Farrier’s one eye washes over in serenity when he submits to his fate and turns back, the anguish and torment that was visible just before evaporates. And then when his gas finally runs out he has a panoramic God’s eye view of the whole evacuation taking place underneath him. Dunkirk is a Nolan high point and don’t let any user tell you different.
William Jones
He didn’t make Man of Steel you dummy. And yeah it takes approximately 3 years for him to regenerate all the kino juice needed to then unload onto his next passion project
Nathan Martin
Nolan is a fucking haaaaaaack
Luke Davis
DEAD WIFE CONFIRM
Jordan Davis
Nolan is a fucking Goooooood
Julian Perez
Nolan should work with Clooney sometime, he's got a Cary Grant flavour.
What? How is that mix "romantic"? If anything that sounds like a spy/noir/sci-fi
Dominic Baker
He basically jerks off to his suspense/tension building, which can also be seen in Dunkirk, although that is more inspired by Clouzot's The Wages of Fear.
