There are hundreds of movies that you might want to talk about. The problem is that in order to have a good discussion about one, you need a decent number of people that have all seen that same movie, remember it, AND have something interesting to say about it.

Suppose I've seen The Birds and you've seen North by Northwest, but we've both seen Rear Window. A Hitchcock thread would be biased toward discussion of Rear Window because that's the one we have in common. Maybe it's also the one with good bait for starting arguments.

This too, I failed to mention in my earlier posts how Yea Forums is experiencing the same problems (albeit to a lesser degree). Only in Yea Forums's case it's comics get pushed off the board, not lesser-known films. An entire fucking medium, over capeshit (mostly instigated by tourists), kid's cartoons and borderline on-topic generals.

Yea Forums used to be great for discussing a lot of outsider shit but it's as basic and entry-level as any other public forum on the internet now

This is part of Yea Forums's speed problem. Threads probably don't last much longer than a couple hours on average. On a slower board, my thread about North by Northwest might be around for an entire day or two, and there's enough time for all the people who have seen that movie to chime in. It may get only 30 posts but it'll still have gotten a decent amount of time to live. On real Yea Forums, that thread is on page 5 within 15 minutes and probably archived within 60.

Well in that case a Hitchcock thread would be the better choice anyway. While the majority of people would be talking about Rear Window, you could freely talk about The Birds, while user talks about North by Northwest. This would congregate fans of all three together, because likely a fan of one is a fan of the others, or perhaps it would introduce someone who has only seen one of the movies into the other ones. If you're wanting to talk about just one of his movies, and no one replies to you then a solo thread wouldn't have done any good either. At least when grouped up, it would bring more attention to your conversation from people who might like it, and keep it from 404ing.
I get the point you're making, but cramming them together works better for everyone.

For an easy film-related example, you could use a TLJ thread to talk about any number of films such as Master & Commander, The Bounty, or Das Boot. You have themes of mutiny and insubordination and naval-style combat that is actually tense and exciting. But of course no one ever does. People only say "Star Wars sucks and always sucked" or try other lazy shitposting tactics that never work.
