All living things start as female, including humans. Female is the base structure and male is an add on. In the last few months of pregnancy a human child will transition to male. Genetic make-up decides this transition, but all males start as females in the womb.
A very simple way to test this is, as a male, to inspect your own genitals. If you pull up your scrotum you will notice a line that runs down to the base of your scrotum. Initially, the human male early in the womb will have a vaginal type structure, but as they transition to male this gets pushed out and seals together, leaving the line at the scrotum.
There are instances where males will fail to make the transition or only half transition, ending up with a female body, but male genetic make-up. These cases are well documented and in most cases these women will be unable to bear children.
