quick rundown is she got "elected" via a tenuous coalition and everyone was kind of wary of having a woman president. then literally three months after assuming office she announced she was with child and was going take six months maternity leave (of course this made international news and >that's a good thing!).

honestly the family leave con went over pretty well with a lot of her doubters because if there is one thing NZers like it's people with zero work ethic. so she was kind of admired for it but now she's back and all her policies suck. kiwibuild's a failure and this fight over the capital gains tax is a predictable disaster.

she's also a Hamilton-turned-jafa lefty who of course gave her kid a highly cringe Māori name despite her and her partner combined being absolutely 0% Pasifika. so really she's just one of THOSE people who really can't function in normal NZ society so she just governs from the Auckland suburbs which...well it's just not very representative of the country as a whole.
