Sometimes it happens 3 weeks before the date, sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes 1 week before, sometimes a few days before. Rarely, the same day.

Civil War was. CGI in Aquaman is overall pretty good though. Not BvS tier but this .webm is based on a Web-dl which suffer naturally from low bitrate and it's also heavily compressed into a .webm. Aquaman looks better than anything Marvel did since the first Captain America.

I watched it in the theatre. It had a couple of obvious green sceen moments and the final fight has some questionable design and lighting choices but overall it looks good. The fact a lot of it takes place under water and therefore uses a certain filter makes you notice any shoddy cg use a lot less. DC movies look all better, than the Marvel ones most likely due to DC hiring actual directors and not puppets like Feige. Suicide Squad was botched in post and Justice League (visually) with the reshoots (by a Marvel-hire funnily enough).

There's a bunch of decent CGI in most Marvel films, especially up to the point where both sides stopped trying. There's some shoddy CGI in BvS and Wonder Woman and even Man of Steel. It's not all black and white.

I'm not saying it is. I'm just making an overall assessment. Wonder Woman has a bunch of bad cg, especially the final act looks atrocious. Man of Steel has problems with the fighting scenes, in which you clearly see the characters are animated. BvS doesn't have any nameworthy cg shortcomings as far as I see it though. If you watch the BluRay on a big screen all of it looks great. The .webms that are posted here miss a lot of the detail.

With the Marvel v DC shit again... Have you forgotten that they started out with a decent film too? Sadly, CGI is getting worse somehow, Hulk has looked progressively worse in every single film he showed up since Avengers. But you can't tell me the shit that is going on in Aquaman legitimately looks better to you than phase 1 Marvel. I'd love to be with the DC-fanboys on this one, but I'm not okay with blindly slobbering up shit and calling it coffee, only because they made some decent stuff before.

It's not really a fair comparison, because I'm pretty sure animating water is the hardest part and it isn't used a lot for that reason. Marvel tries to cheap out on it by filming everything dry and avoiding scenes near water at all costs. Not saying it's perfect but having nearly a whole film set underwater would've been a nightmare to make.

Aquaman is fine. It's all under water, hence why it works. Completely agree on Marvel regressing in terms of quality from phase to phase though.

I find my assessment to be completely fair. Remember the scene of Aquachad getting submerged in water in BvS? The scene heavily featured in trailers? Compare that to and you'll agree that they have stopped trying. It might be because it's too much work (which just means they don't have enough money) or because they don't give a shit. But there's a marked decline in quality of CGI when it should only get better.
Also, check out "We Own The Night" for water CGI. It used to be a problem, but we got there. We now have the technical means to do it. If we put in the time and the effort.

That was one scene compared to a film that's mostly underwater. What's exactly wrong with the scene anyway? No matter what you say, you're still going to complain about it being "bad cgi" because the water doesn't look realistic even though she's literally bending water.

My complaint isn't even the water, that's actually acceptable, it's her being awful CGI up until the closeup. Her face is close to Titanic level up there and it just generally looks... off. I can't really give you details, I'm not nitpicking pixels here, but it just is unnecessary to CGI her completely here and it feels off. That's enough to make it bad for me.

Also, the suit looked okay behind the scenes, especially in the sequel which looked fine, but then they ended up ditching it and cging everything again in post production.

I was blown away by the movie when I watched it in the theater even though I knew that the 3D was dragging it down. Tried out the Korean rip and thought that it looked quite okay
This version is fucking nuts though. I'm officially mad that I didn't drive two hours to the next IMAX (FUCK Euro cinemas, I swear). The IMAX version is far better than the regular one and the effects look even better which is quite odd considering that effects usually look worse when watched at a higher quality. In my eyes, Wan really outdid himself with this one

I think that as long as people have fun, it's all worth it. the only issue with "fun" is when it's used to explain why a movie is good which just isn't objective. Aquaman was a very well-made movie though which is why it baffles me why there's so many haters

the amount of hate it gets is just because of company war fags and outright contrarians. obviously I understand people fundamentally hating cape movies which is totally fine. saying that it's a bad movie though is just wrong because there are plenty of examples for bad movies, especially in comicbook related media (Elektra, Catwoman). Aquaman is pretty much one of the best cape movies out there, even if the story isn't filled with twists

Ocean Master and Black Manta were literally perfect villains. Hell, even shitty SJWs should get their satisfaction because Manta is established as an intelligent person. That Depeche Mode scene was probably one of the best villain scenes in any comicbook movie because it managed to establish his determination and intelligence in a matter of two minutes. Patrick Wilson was god-tier as always so getting him on-board was cheating from the get go
