ITT: The Last Movie You Watched That Truly Floored You

>What was the last movie you saw that genuinely left you in awe?
Just saw pic related yesterday as my introduction to Gasper Noe. I honestly don’t know why the fuck I hadn’t checked him out before this, because the movie was absolutely incredible.
The movie is just so fucking brilliant at building it’s unsettling atmosphere and making you feel uneasy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a film as unsettling and unnerving as this felt, and I think the fantastic cinematography choices only accentuate this feeling. Despite the negative feelings that come with this movie though, I really want to experience it again. I just found the movie oddly enticing and enthralling.
The fact that he could pull this concept off well and keep me completely enthralled throughout the entire runtime is a feat in and of itself in my eyes. The cinematography also felt really planned out, and the dialogue and flow of conversations felt really naturalistic, so I was even more amazed to find out that most of the dialogue and conematography was improvised. I just thought it was an excellently made and deeply affecting film, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it all day.
Does the rest of Noe’s discography match up with this, or is this widely considered his best film?

Congratulations, you fell for cheap exploitative garbage.

Enter the void is sort of interesting

This is is his most solid film, although Enter the Void is pretty trippy, too. Haven't seen his latest two.

Not a movie but Dennō Senshi Porygon affected me badly. Thanks for caring OP.

Ok.
But what was the last film you watched that really impressed you?

Universal Soldier: Day of Redemption

Inspired by Noe actually.

It might be the best action movie/philip k dick movie of our time

Also, I don’t see how it’s exploitation. It served a thematic purpose, and has a point. Is it a bit gratuitous and extreme, sure, but I think the fact that it serves the themes of the story raises it above just pure exploitation. If it was done any other way, I don’t think it would have much impact. Also, Bellucci had a shit ton of control over the scene and how it was done, so that helps too

i love how Yea Forums criticize Noe but also cant stop loving hollyjew and capeshit

The Road. The kid annoyed the crap out of me, but all the implied brutality of the movie got to me. Spent the whole next day in bed bummed out. It was really nice how they didn't go for cheap scares or violence but palpable tension and aftermaths of violence.

100% unironically, no piece of western animation ever made even comes close.

i loved irreversible too, thomas bangalter doing his best, gaspar noe trying his best to leave a mark on the audience,
nothing wrong with being edgy as long as you have substance in your work

fun fact:gaspar made an appearence in the homo club, he was an extra, a masturbator

I think that is definitely his most popular. Personally I enjoyed enter the void more, but I like all of his movies, and honestly think he's one of the greatest filmmakers working today. Tv is pretty anti-Noe though, so don't expect a lot of praise for him here.

In a similarly continental vein, Holy Motors

Leos Carax is a strange, strange man

Finished Out 1 recently. I thought it was pretty fantastic.
I don’t think the majority of Yea Forums actually really watches movies, or if they do, they aren’t really “””””””””cinephiles””””””””””. Fucking pleb taste and shitposting is way more prevalent then discussion of actually good movies and filmmakers

Jesus Christ, could you possibly be any more of an ingratiating pseud? Just because some folks on here don't approve of your shitty edgelord argentine-jewish director?

I think the board needs more pseuds. It’s better than the current abundance of shitposters and proud retards

I'm really familiar with the Christian church environment. After watching this movie, I really liked the perspective that the movie had, it felt very personal. The movie is really interesting because it's pro-Christian, but anti-church mixing with corporations, critical of wacko environmentalists but also shows the effect that we have on the earth. I also don't think it was a "make of it what you want" movie either, from watching it twice again afterwards it is clear that everything that I have gotten out of it is intentional. Great presentation, very slow and simple, like it a lot. What the pastor says sometimes regarding theology is pretty unrealistic but the pastor is also very well acted. Recommend this movie a lot if you are Christian. Btw OP that movie looks interesting but I'm scared to watch it cause that rape scene

>but I'm scared to watch it cause that rape scene
reddit might be more your speed

Yeah, I guess it depends on how much you can take. As long as you get past it though, nothing that disturbing or disgusting is in the rest of the movie. Either way, I think it’s a pretty incredible movie, so I’d implore you to at least try and watch it.
I also saw First Reformed a few weeks ago. Really solid. It’s a shame it didn’t get more recognition at the Oscars.

Bump

Bump

i was really floored by monica bellucci’s rape grunts

I watched it on a whim one day when my internet was out.

Easily top 5 films. The final scene, the shootout, the drama. Amazing.

Noe is based, his new film climax is being very well recieved so you might like that. I personally love I Stand Alone just for its edginess and the score
