Featured film: P.O.V.

Previously: What is found footage? Found footage consists of feature length movies, shorts, or webseries designed to have the look and feel of actual (non-fictional) filmed events that were lost and subsequently discovered and made available to the viewer. That is why it is the most creative subgenre ever to exist, with over 700 movies and counting!

HOW TO FIND FOUND FOOTAGE FILMS ONLINE: AN /FFG/ GUIDE

a) Download Sources from best (1) to worst (5)

1) Private Torrents (PTP, THC and CG are the best for FF and THC is easy to join)
2) Public Torrents (use rarbg, zooqle, digbt, and torrentz2)
3) Private Usenet accounts (Get these from private torrents and private piracy forums)
4) Public Usenet (use Binsearch, get a free usenet account, slow but it works)
5) Public and private DDL (warez-bb, filehosts)

b) Streaming sites have quite a few. Type in google "[name of movie] 123movies"

c) Amazon Prime has a lot of them if you already have an account. Tubi has them too, with no account needed!

d) Ask /ffg/ for the ones you can't find using above methods. Remember to archive the rare ones for your fellow FF fans!

e) Here's a still-evolving pastebin of FF movies you can watch on Youtube. These are NOT recommendations!

If you're looking for any movie, it's on the THC.

Ok, thanks.

>If you're looking for any movie, it's on the THC.
Let's not go too far, user. Some FF movies aren't on THC. Some can't be found online, and some are popular enough to find without THC so they just haven't been uploaded yet, but me and another guy are uploading movies if they are requested.

>but me and another guy are uploading movies if they are requested.
That's great.

can't tell if they're zombies or demons

What's THC

Found footage is a shitty gimmick that companies with low budgets use in order to cut corners.

Very few movies pull it off well. Most of them rely on constant bad jump scares because they are poorly written.
Sometimes found footage ruins a good or interesting plot, a good idea that could have worked well as a regular movie.
Found footage is ruining horror.
Directors think that by making something as found footage they dont need to bother with setting good shots or lighting. They dont bother with good cinematography.

Cheers boss

>not all movies are good: the post

Just wanna say I still love this general even if we're a bit slow at the moment. Comfy memories.

I do too and we've definitely been through some good times together. it's not that I'm completely giving up but I need to change something or I really will burn myself out.
if I spend every day doing the same thing, regardless of what the thing is, I always eventually grow to hate it and I really don't want that to happen with found footage.

I unironically want to watch this ironically

>DUDE ANOTHER FORGOTTEN 80S PROPERTY LMAO
I'm really getting sick of this, lads

they’ve (we’ve) run out of ideas.
there is literally nothing new that can be created. everything is an outright rehash or an updated version of something accounting for new technology.
there will be no more original stories.
it’s always “X movie but with Y instead of Z aren’t we so clever lmao” and we’re past the point where it can be changed.

time to lower our standards even farther.

me too

Matter and energy cannot be created, only changed, this is the same for ideas and concepts. I think your post is a little generalized, because the same idea in different contexts can be exhilarating and novel. What actually matters is the presentation and execution of an idea rather than the idea itself. For instance, a simple ghost story written by a master executing on the foundations of their craft with finesse and passion for the genre can be just as good, if not better, than a complete subversion of deconstruction of the rules and formulae of a ghost story, or the introduction of a totally alien element. For instance, 1920s 'weird fiction' would be novel today, with our defined and subverted genres. A unique mixture of horror, sci-fi and fantasy, all in one.

My actual beef with the 80s meme is not only are we completely rehashing ideas from a single meme decade instead of the wealth of pop culture from the turn of the 20th century, these rehashes aren't being presented in any new or different context, they're presented as exactly 'hey it's like the 80s, but now!', there is no modernity to it, it's a desperate nostalgic cash in for people who don't even have the nostalgia and are just following a pop culture trend. They are being a fake, plastic idealization of something and while that can be novel at first, it's being taken so seriously and delivered so cynically that I'd argue it's actively harmful.

Thanks. Been watching teh past hour. It's awful

yeah

lol

you’re right about all of that of course. I was just being a negative nancy.
I’ve been taking too many blackpills lately.
and I’m sick of the nostalgia pandering too. it makes the past seem less appealing and the present is already shit, so the past is all I have. and the future appears to be nothing but more of the same reboots and rehashes.

it’s why I like music more than movies, because the same style can be rehashed in a million different ways but movies it’s just gender swaps and doing the same story in a different era.

Huh?

You're damn tight

Mainstream cinema is a nightmare, to be fair. But cinema is a reflection of general mindsets, so I guess we have that as an artifact. It'll change, maybe not soon, but the only constant in the universe is change, things end so new things can begin. Dunno if its cyclical, though. I hope not.

I wish I felt the same way about books, but I'm a horror fan and a massive snob about it, so modern horror just feels so tired for just lots of reasons, but mostly because of literary pretensions and the decades of subversions and shit we've been through. 1850-1940s was the (broad) golden age of horror literature, and the horror genre, in my opinion. I could go on at length about why it was the best, but the fact of the matter is because we hadn't gotten used to it yet. We could still be scared. Stories from then were raw and sincere.

spooky

I’ve been reading all sorts of stuff lately but besides that MR James story, I haven’t read any good horror in a while.
I’m gonna look for some manga to read though cuz I’ve kinda burned myself out of horror too. watching so much so often has oversaturated my brain and made it so I’m almost immune to being truly spooked like I used to be.
like the first time I watched Hell House and Gonjiam are the last ones I can remember that really did it for me and that was five or six months ago.

and it’s not that I haven’t seen any good movies lately, because I definitely have. it’s just so oversaturated that it doesn’t do anything to me anymore, in the same way that it used to at least.

based
I haven’t posted that one in a while. it’s one of my favorites.

if only my computer wasn’t being a little bitch again tonight, I’d post some of the others.

What's the most unpredictable found footage flick? I wanna watch something like way different. Inb4 Lake Mungo.

Noroi

If you've never read Dracula, I'd recommend it. You can take your time with it. The first section is top tier horror, regardless of how accustomed we are to vampires, shit's spooky, and the rest of the novel is great character-driven story, you feel this group come together really strong. Fuckin live it, honestly. If you want trippy weird fantasy, give Lovecraft's The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath a go, good raw imagination. It's almost made for sporadic reading since it's just a journey through weirdness.

The Visit

toma

I read it in college. I liked it, especially because it's not what you would expect it be from how it's portrayed in hollywood. I read a lot of stuff I enjoyed in college (but I also skipped a bunch because I was too busy ruining my life before it even started lol)
I've got a pdf of the "complete works of lovecraft," I'll see if I can find that one. I'm pretty sure I've seen that title recently actually.

I've been reading the Illuminatus trilogy which isn't horror but it's really good conspiracy fiction and I'm also like 70 pages into the Histories of Herodotus, incredibly random I know (*holds up spork*)

unpredictable hmmm
Preternatural maybe? I don't really remember what actually happened besides it being unpredictable.
or Crowsnest might be a better choice.
also the Visit is a good call too.
