What is he doing back there
How did they get away with Cambot saying, "kill yourself"
anyone else think pearl was strangely hot
Season 7 has some great episodes (Deathstalker, The Melting Man, Laserblast) but they should have never gotten rid of TV's Frank
only in this pic
Season 7 Pearl was awful and unfunny; a terrible replacement for Frank. They completely overhauled her into a different character with a different dynamic in the Sci-Fi Channel seasons and I liked her a lot in those. Season 7 Pearl was still horrible, but thankfully that's a short season.
Escape 2000 is one of my top episodes
No mother, that’s franks spare head
But Frank had greener pastures to pursue...like writing for America's Funniest Home Videos...and then spending the rest of his life chasing the MST3K glory days again.
Frank added literally nothing so it really didn't matter and at least now we get Bridget and Mary Jo riffing together which is actually funny compared to most of Pearls parts Trace is still funny though so its not all bad
nothing strange about hot big girls, my friend
i think he worked on sabrina for a couple of seasons
It's got one of my favorite riffs of all time, that I even found funny as hell as a kid.
>"Those are reporters. They'll be snapping some pictures."
>"and some bras."
He had some kind of vague involvement in Invader Zim too, but I don't specifically remember what.
IIRC, Frank was the one who chose the movies for the show
>Frank added literally nothing so it really didn't matter
I'mma say it:
Sci-Fi Channel MST3K > Comedy Central MST3K
He was, and I think in the MST Scrapbook, Mike or one of them said that Frank's knowledge of film is "encyclopedic", and any time you hear a riff that's a super deep cut, it's usually Frank's joke.
I mean don't get me wrong I like both but I consistently like more in the Sci-Fi era season 10 has some of my favorites Laserblast from season 7 is my favorite Trace episode though
Agreed, I don't know if it's the time they took to find their feet after the host change or something about the network, but 8, 9 and 10 were the best seasons.
>I mean
Back the way you came, redditor
Sorry man, but Joel's sleepy monotone shtick was just a poor man's Stephen Wright, and his prop comedy shtick was just a poor man's Carrot Top. The dude has really lousy comedy sensibilities and humor comes more from all the other characters than anything inherent in Joel. Mike was an all-over improvement, having a much funnier dynamic with the bots (because they were allowed to disrespect him) and the Mads (because they were allowed to abuse him).
I met her a kid with my father, I called her ugly.
He was a writer/script supervisor in ZIM. Also one of the repeat background extras is a caricature of him.
All the interviews I've ever seen with Joel, going back to when MST3K was new all the way to recent ones, he's always come off as kind of a prick. Or maybe just someone with Aspergers who "misses social cues" or "doesn't get jokes" and so he gets awkward or angry when an interviewer tries to be playful with him.
I remember that MTV interview he did with Jon Stewart and when he got asked "what's life like in space" Joel got really defensive and said he doesn't live in space and wouldn't know because it's just a TV show. The same thing happened on Space Ghost Coast to Coast, when Space Ghost tried to call him a "fellow spaceman" he got defensive and said he wouldn't do a bit with Space Ghost.
For a "comedian" Joel has never had a particularly good sense of humor and seems to have a hard time getting along with people.
Wow, it's just a show, you'd think he'd really just relax.
I still hear it, despite knowing the real line
That is the real line. The mirror was just put in for plausible deniability
I don't actually get the hate for Pearl. She had some of the best moments and is an awesome actress.
Is it just the loss of some great villains?
At last, I see.
>I had to put mother in a home
>calls crow "art" all the time because one time a kid sent a letter in with his drawing of the robots and mislabeled crow as "art"
>When Mike shows up as Toblerone
i liked Public Pearl.
Now he just spends all day being a woke twitter retard and shilling for Capeshit and the all female Ghostbusters
Season 8-10 Pearl is great and I think the worst anyone really says about her is "she was good but I liked Dr. Forrester better". Season 7 Pearl was bad, though, I'll agree with that. But they recognized that she wasn't working and rewrote her to be MUCH funnier in Season 8. Her dynamic with Bobo and Brain Guy was, at least in my opinion, funnier than Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank. I always liked them better as the Mads, even if they were late series additions.
That sounds about right. I recall her improving.
could at least get some of these guys back for netflix mst3k. Dr Earhart showed up (yeah pearl, brain guy and bobo did too)
Frank and dr.forreter both worked on cinematic titanic you'd think they didnt mind working with joel
Think I'm going to spend my day drinking beer and watching some mst3k. Recommend me a handful of episodes please
Joel burned every bridge he had with Mike, so he's never gonna make a cameo in a million years (but that's ok because Rifftrax is funnier than nuMST3K, anyway).
I really enjoyed San Fransisco International
Especially when she was pissed at Bobo and Brian
Moon Zero Two and The Sword and the Dragon are really good movies and episodes that doesn't get enough love
thanks chief
I hear of a jack in the box. But I never hear of a lady in the box!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
>Recommend me a handful of episodes please
Well, I'm sure you already know the obvious choices everybody has (Manos, Hobgoblins, Space Mutiny, Pod People). Here are some of my favorites that don't get recommended quite so much:
>The Giant Spider Invasion (why no one lists this as one of the funniest Sci-Fi era episodes pisses me off; it's one of my favorites)
>The Killer Shrews (another underrated one, if you gotta have a Joel episode, anyway)
>Future War (a nonsense movie that repurposes props from Carnosaur 2; it's gold)
didn't they have the Reunion a year or two ago? also didn't joel sell the rights to mst3k?
thanks my buddy
Squirm and Time Chasers are underrated.
best character coming through
That duet, especially when Brain Guy comes out to join her and you hear the subtle applause is fucking hilarious
Yeah, I don't think Mike's grievance is with Joel, I think it was with Best Brains or whoever owned the rights to the series (Jim Mallon?). It had to do with royalty payments or something that Mike got screwed out of.
Another user said he met "Steffy" at a live show and she looked rough. That sucks
/ourguy/
laserblast, soultaker, the final sacrafice, overdrawn at the memory bank and werewolf merlin in season 10 is also good
>Time Chasers
Now there's one that gets overlooked way too often. Such a phenomenally ambitious but still utter piece of shit film with a ludicrous premise; it wouldn't honestly be funny to watch even without the riffs (but the riffs make it better).
I was so happy when Mike finally ditched the invention exchange. I never found them funny.
imagine not having every single episode available of MST3k on your hard drive right now
After MST3k ended, Mike created a show called The Film Crew through Shout Factory which was basically another MST3k, Jim Mallon threatened to pull MST3k from Shout Factory if they didn't cancel The Film Crew, so they did, and that's why he started RiffTrax and did it all out of his own pocket.
You're just a fucking Castleton snob
Yeah, and they only felt more off and out of place when Mike tried doing them. That element of the show only existed as a holdover from Joel's prop comedy career, there was never any point to Mike doing them (even in-story, he wasn't an employee or student as Gizmonic so why would he be making gizmos to exchange). It also freed up a host segment for the writers to so whatever they wanted with instead of having to designate it to a prop comedy bit. One more of the reasons why the show improved with Mike.
Hell yea and set VLC to random
that space ghost one is hard to watch
It was Rhino Entertainment not Shout Factory, but yeah that's what happened
>KTMA episodes will never be found
The only one missing is episode 3. Episodes 1 and 2 were found and released to the public a while ago.
youtube.com
what is this kind of cinematography called?
I saw in an interview with Murphy and he said when they brought Mike in as a writer their quality of jokes went through the roof and they pretty much instantly made him head writer. That's why when I hear people say Joel was better I wonder if they know who was really writing and weeding out the bad jokes and arranging the timing and stuff. Mike was just more talented than Joel in every aspect of that show.
>Or maybe just someone with Aspergers who "misses social cues" or "doesn't get jokes" and so he gets awkward or angry when an interviewer tries to be playful with him.
Honestly, everything about Joel screams "on the spectrum" but since he's a celebrity, we're conditioned to brush it off as "oh he's just eccentric".
I heard about episode 1 being bonus content for people who contributed to the kickstarter but has it got out onto the internet yet? I've still not found it
>I heard about episode 1 being bonus content for people who contributed to the kickstarter but has it got out onto the internet yet? I've still not found it
KTMA 1 and 2 are on the Club MST3K guide (and some of the few streaming links that still work, thanks to both episodes being hosted on Archive.org and not youtube)
>club-mst3k.com

KTMA 3 remains lost save for a couple of fragments that have popped up.
I have a fuckton, maybe all, but you should still upload season 1 for me.
well she's like 50 so that makes sense
>better quality than the torrented files I have
Whack.
Cheers lad!
Holy shit look at that werecrow!
Yep but she'll always be Steffy to me
I spent about a year slowly gathering every episode of seasons 0-10 as they popped up on streaming sites, a few I even nabbed seconds before they got taken down. It was fun even though I'm sure there was an easier way. A few of the episodes I snagged are in shiiiiiiiiit quality, but that kinda feels appropriate for MST3K so I don't exactly mind.
Man I wish I downloaded the Soultaker upload that was on the official MST3K YT having those annotations explaining the jokes was neat
Fuck, do those youtube videos still exist where they explain everything or are they gone too?
I've been trying to work my way through the KTMA episodes, but it isn't easy. The growing pains involved in the season are a serious hurdle. All the dead air and the attempts to improv riffs rather than script them in advance. Most of the time Joel can't think of anything to say so he stays quiet and Weinstein just makes shitty puns because he can't come up with anything clever on the spot. The only times KTMA is actually funny is when Trace blurts out something racist, usually not even in the form of a joke. Like, a Japanese person will appear on screen and Crow will just say, "Nip."
The KTMA episodes are neat in a historical sort of way, but goddamn they're hard to sit through.
>MFW you got Doppled for scrolling up MST3K cinemas at work
Collect just to collect.
>Crow will just say "Nip"
Lol.
There's a site called the annotated mst that explains all the obscure jokes but they're slow to add episodes.
I think it was "King Dinosaur", one of the Japanese movies. There's a news reporter and his camera has "YBS" on it. Trace/Crow really derisively mumbles, "Must stand for Yellow Broadcasting System."
Makes you wonder how Trace turned into such a shrieking Liberal in recent years.
You Fingled my doppel
Right, there is no rational reason to prefer the Joel-era. Joel people are either just contrarians or nostalgic for the earlier time period.
Protip: watch them on a crt
Season 1 is so bad, even Joel asked Comedy Central not to rerun it.
Working as a writer or contributor on MST3K in its prime had to be fun as hell. Imagine your work being to get stoned with friends, watch shitty movies and just crack whatever jokes about it come to mind.
>Slab Bulkhead
Reminder to watch the shorts as well as the regular episodes.
t. Jam Handy
The Gumby short they riffed is one of my favorites.
"Well that squares my breasts!"
For me it's the Finno Russians, Jack Frost and The Day The Earth Froze.
Duh. Always.
Nastia from Jack Frost was fiiiine
Space Mutiny and Hobgoblins are 2 episodes I think I rewatched too many times so the jokes have worn off (but I still find all the weird names they make up for the lead in Space Mutiny hilarious).
I had 2 tapes of shorts growing up and watched them a million times.
based and redpilled
womp womp, noooo springs
>a Japanese person will appear on screen and Crow will just say, "Nip."
Assignment Venezuela, the "lost" short that didn't get attached to any episode, is worth watching because holy shit Venezuela wtf happened to you?
>HAIL TRUCK FARMER
>HAIL TRUCK FARMER
>Servo screams chanting gibberish as the short ends
The Unearthly is a great underrated one
Bride of the Monster is overshadowed by Manos but it's got some amazing moments
>Oh no! Now he has the strength of TWENTY heroin addicts!
>Gristle McThornbody
I used to put random names from Space Mutiny on the birthday list at work when we hired a new secretary. She added Bob Johnson for a few months.
