They changed a lot of setups that make the second half of the original manga work, but if I had to ballpark a guess, part 2 would begin with Jashugan and Motorball tourney and end with Berserker Zapan and destruction of Iron City, while part 3 would have to include both Mad Max parts and parts on Zalem which is gonna be tough.

The first series is pretty great for the most part, it's not till towards the end it starts to feel a bit rush apparently the series was getting close to being cancelled which resulted being rushed, it also had an ending that gets thrown away (now non canon) to set up the sequel Last Order which is also great. Haven't read Mars though which is the current running series.

Behind me there was what i assumed to be a divorced father who took his kids to the cinema. The 11 year old daughteru giggled everytime a cyborg was violently disposed of and the boy, who i assume was younger then 10, found it scary. Over all the kids were surprisingly well behaved. It's like this movie brings out the good in people.

A bluray sells for like 20, 25 $ whatever, it costs maybe $2-$3 to produce and manufacture, not exactly very hard to make money from it.
Most of the money has already been spent during movie production.
Even selling it in the bargain bin for $5, it's still profitable.
Bluray/online past box office sales actually have much higher margin than cinema sales (but obviously a lot fewer people buy them).
Selling it on jewtube / net flix / whatever has literally zero cost, they just send them the video file, that's it.

So far, the film performed way above expectations and the fact even broke 350 million is kind of surprise. The final decision will come down if they announce or sequel or hold it off. It's unknown what Fox or Cameron's standards are for "good enough" besides that one stated 350 million break even point they had, which if that's the case, the movie is fine right now.

2 sequels together are cheaper to film than separately, unless you're not certain you'll make the money back (which is in this case, well...) since you don't have to pay for sets, costumes and majority of preproduction twice.

There are a few moments that fall flat in the movie:
When Alita first starts to suspect that her dad is a serial murderer she starts stalking him and follows him into the night, the tension is at its highest when she is on the rooftop at a crossway watching her dad hiding behind a corner in wait to attack a random prostitute. This misunderstanding is resolved within a minute of the tension reaching its highpoint and the first fight with Grishka and his gang starts.
Now this is an example of a bad adaptation: manga runs on a chapter by chapter release schedule and due to this a manga has different pacing than lets say a movie. A common trope is to end a chapter with tension running high and resolve this tension in the next chapter. The prime example of this is perhaps Prison School where the reader ends each chapter thinking "how the hell is the main character going to get out of this one" and then waits a week to see this resolve. In a movie however the misunderstanding/conflict/challange is resolved within minutes or instantaniously as far as manga is concerned.
Here are some moments that I am convinced were on the last page in a chapter:
>Alita sitting on the roof atop a steet crossing before jumping down to stop her dad from "killing the hooker"
>Hugo kissing Alita
>Grishka killing the dog
>Dc Dad revealing that no outsider can enter Zalem
All of these moments would have made great story beats in a manga chapter if they were given the time to breath and for the character to reach to them properily in the next chapter but the movie being a movie had to rush them.
I love the movie unto death and Alita a cute but the adaptation could have done better.

Russian. Both Alita and Ido's actors did a great job with their voices. I'm not often enjoying russian dub, but here it was actually good.
This in addition to the fact that they will save on costs of creating Alita since they have all the tech ready to go now, so its way more likely that if the movie gets a sequel it will get 2 and 3 back to back, Cameron himself has said this in an interview from like 2006 that if Alita 1 were theoretically created and was successful he would film 2 and 3 back to back.

Yeah, whenever they've talked about doing more movies, they never say just one, they always talk about the trilogy or the 2nd and 3rd films. If they're going to make any sequel, they're going to do both at once.
To continue from my post about Grewishka kneeling, the whole process of setting up Nova was masterfully done. We never hear him talk except through the lips of others; his voice is never heard but his words are. He's always watching, and he only says this after we've already been shown that he really does.
And then there's the scene with Alita training and getting told "Nova is the dragon we must slay", like it's not just Grewishka and Vector and the Iron City punks who view Nova as some otherworldly entity but even the URM had this image of him as something beyond the scope of humanity.
It's so little and yet it's so impressive.
And then there's the way he talked on after Alita stabbed Vector

Like he's talking about the fucking weather. Nova is an impressive villain. This is how you set someone up, people.
Yeah, they made Nova interesting and actually a part of the plot, rather than an infinity gems bullshit after credits thing. I want to see Edward Norton do more with the character.

Nova has that level of presence in situations but as you mentioned it's impressive because it's a step removed from the physical location itself

It's such a great movie that has so many stand out moments and scenes. Each time I watch it I feel a connection to a scene that I hadn't previously, or appreciate a favorite moment even more.
Alita really sticks with you after you leave the theater.
The subplot of Ido possibly being the murderer of those women is all contained and resolved within the first chapter of the manga. They actually spend more time on it in the movie than the manga, so pacefags need to stfu
