The thing with MJ is that she's such a completely different character that even calling her MJ was just unnecessary. I mean some of the same people are still going to be upset for much dumber reasons, but at least you aren't completely changing a multi-decade established character.

Of the 3 main characters, Miles' arc is the least interesting by far. It essentially boils down to "be yourself and believe in yourself," which doesn't entirely address the whole "great expectations" theme of the film. It really diminishes the amount of heart you perceive the film as having.

I liked it. It was pretty funny. The hero arc was a little dumb but I thought the ending was cool with the shoulder touch thing. Only thing I didn't like was the pig, but even that was OK in the end.

All the other characters except Miles Morales and Peter Parker were underutilized and served no actual purpose in the story.

The filter applied to make it look like a comic book's printer dots was physically nauseating. Along with the tight camera focus for large parts of the film it felt originally intended for the small screen.

They made the spider people glitch out then completely dropped that plot point without even doing anything with it.
