He's probably still writing.

industry rumors were that he was planning on pumping out movies more frequently after phantom thread. his next movie is set in 80s Harlem with Tiffany Haddish

A race drama probably?

it will be another ripoff of an old genre imitating director x and director y that reddit will sing hyperbolic praise and then forget about a year later

The fuck? I think this'll be another hyperlink film. 600 motherfucking pages.

oh my bad. it's not just an industry rumors. also it's set in the 40s

no these are just offhanded remarks he makes in interviews that these leeches turn into headlines. but he did say would want to go back to doing huge ensemble style movies with huge setpieces like magnolia very soon

X and Y is usually Demme and Scorsese. Recently it's been John Huston and Demme.

or altman or Jacques tati.
phantom thread was more Hitchcock and Mike Leigh though

fact: his 2000s output is up there with any filmmaker this century
i don’t give a fuck if reddit knows who he is

I think from what I remember, Boogie Nights was directly influenced by Scorsese and Onions Cuba. Magnolia was Scorsese and Demme. Punch Drunk Love was Orson Wells and Truffaut. There Will be Blood was John Huston and Max Ophuls. The Master was Huston and Demme. Inherent Vice seemed pretty random with just long takes of people talking.

I have an even hotter take: the master and phantom thread are in his top 3, alongside there will be blood. he's only gotten better with age.
also, junun, the doc he filmed in rural India, is one of the best music docs I've ever seen

He filmed Junun in digital. Judas.

Onions Cuba. Sorry.

he had to. can't take all that heavy film equipment to India. the Indian film industry films on digital exclusively now, afaik. also, a bunch of his fancy cameras and drones got taken in customs, so he didn't have much to work with

that may be a hot take but i actually completely agree. phantom thread was criminally slept on because greatness is what is expected of him at this point

inherent vice was Robert Downey Sr.
also he mentioned Jacques Tati and Fred & Ginger movies influence during a Punch Drunk Love interview in cannes

With the last couple of movies he went too far up his own ass.

Wtf is happening? Onions Cuba S O Y Cuba.

also because it doesn't fit any clear agenda/narrative for it to win awards. I would say the opposite. he was like that in the beginning. his recent movies are way more sober

I think you're talking about Magnolia.

haha Yea Forums censors s~0~y

based

Why?

BLACKED

Serious question. Has there ever been a bad character in his film? Except Plainview. All his characters seem pretty sincere.

no idea. a bunch of words are replaced
try typing c-uc-k, s-o-y, t-b-h without hyphens

Is he the hottest director?

my boy Cary joji fukunaga is hotter

Just a reminder that even Wahlbergs prosthetic penis wasn't as big as John Holmes.
