I have social anxiety and I don't like looking people in the eye or smiling at me I'm not comfortable with so to acknowledge their presence I do this face, instinctually.

It's to acknowledge you exist if we're both walking towards eachother in an empty hallway. I'm not going to smile at you because that's creepy but I'm not going to completely ignore you because that's awkward.
