Yes, one of the most beautiful movies ever. It’s a pity that the ending is so bad, it’s just so rushed.
but would you want another courtroom scene, or another scene with Midge? the movie works in that rollercoaster way that only Hitchcock does, and then just slams to a halt at the end, like a sad equivalent to NxNW. If you want things wrapped up neatly watch Psycho or Rear Window.
Yes, that's what everyone says.
In terms of cinematography it's fantastic, pacing, not so much. Kim Novak was fucking hot.
The pacing makes it difficult, but it's a movie that really benefits repeat viewings. The dreamlike atmosphere is just so haunting. Feels like David Lynch sometimes.
And Kim was so fucking hot.
*AHEM*

rear window was better then vertigo
Hitchcock is the most overrated director of all time. His movies suck.
The guys who wrong the "I'm not sick but I'm not well" song wrote a song about Vertigo.
Yes, that's what everyone says.
>rear window was better
this is correct. Grace Kelly > Kim Novak.
>a literal princess is better then some whore who got blacked
Are you implying that my opinion is overrated!?
I saw a lenghty review of Vertigo yesterday on TCM, done by Claude Chabrol (famous French director).
He was saying that the woman we see in the second part of the movie ("Judy") has actually nothing to see with the woman in the first part, even though Hitchcock picked the same actress (Novak) to play both characters.
She only turns into the first, blonde woman through Stewart's effort but - this is not the same woman.
I was a bit shocked by this interpretation. Then Chabrol went on to say that this was obvious if you look closely at the movie, and he showed a couple of later scenes (incl. the conclusion) where it's never made clear that the second Novak is really the first Novak (ok i hope i didn't lose anyone on this last sentence). Chabrol said it was Hitchcock greatest trick and that "80% of the viewers got fooled". Who are these 20%? Are they psychic or what?
He didn't address the necklace thing. I guess you could find something if you're bloody minded enough.
One of Chabrol's points was about the scene where it is revealed what happened in the steeple (i.e. when we see the husband putting his hand over the blonde's mouth and simultaneously throwing his wife's corpse). If you can remember, this scene is shown just after a zoom over Judy's face, in the second part of the movie.
Chabrol said "since the only person we don't see in this scene is Stewart, then we must consider that it is Stewart imagining the scene". If it really were Judy recalling what has happened to her, then the perspective would be different. She wouldn't "see herself".
And if it Stewart creating this scene, then most likely it is not real and the viewer is being tricked all along.
>pacing
40 minutes of straight up stalking and walking before anything happens. More painful than Deer Hunter's wedding scene.
Grace Kelly is not attractive. I can't find 1 picture where she looks attractive desu.
well that's like your opinion.
The more based detective story featuring a female lead who is not who she seems taking place in the early 20th century coming thru
never thought i'd see a thread about this, have some questions. what the fuck was the point of girl with the glasses who liked him?
>i heard voices
Imagine being this fucking stupid.
It ended perfectly you brainlet.
It’s a movie about obsession - it’s fitting it ends in the ultimate tragedy.

Midge was the normality he needed in life. The movie is also about obsession and she was a bit obsessed herself.
He's got a real, decent girl who really loves him, but he's obsessed with a woman who doesn't exist. It adds to the tragedy of it all.
I'm serious right now. I understand that she's beautiful, but I would not want to fuck her. Maybe its because of that James Brown hairdo that she has, or how old she looks despite being in her early 20s, but she is not attractive.
