basically humans used to be part of an immortal cosmic race but got punished for arrogance. Three primal entities cursed the human predecessors--Lady Aeon revoked the gift of timelessness, causing men to die, Eregion felled the bridges of humanity's home and separated it from the "all-plane", while Morpheus doomed humanity and the mortal plane into constant change so as to keep humanity as far away as possible from their arrogant peak of power. Only the immortals never foresaw what it would entail--humans can die, but their own curse of mortality also means they could kill immortals, and immortals could die in earth. So all the celestials, infernals, elementals and spectral beings now are trying to stir a proxy war on earth or are trying to manipulate humanity to their side. I don't know what to call the protagonists yet, I was thinking "reaper" and another character asking why it was such a dumb name, and the main character answers "because hunters, men of letters, and slayers were already taken"
main character is a descendant of a celestial warrior race, immune to magic and can see through illusions
his waifu is a redhead. she and her twin brother (will be the bestfriend of MC) inadverdently merged with a fire elemental when their house burned when they were young. girl can control flames, boy can control heat. there is some overlap but the aesthetics are different
there is an anti-hero or friendly rival who was possessed by a shadow elemental
there is a witch and an alchemist who crafts enchanted weaponry and armor for the team
there is a psychic/seer somewhere down the line

I've written a pilot or two in my time, the trick is to introduce the world the same way the character learns about it. Your boy's inherited his power, maybe he's involved in a fight with someone way above a human's paygrade and him no selling the magic is what turns his world inside out. Compare your lore with Supernatural's. It took them until season 4 to bring in angels. If it's complex then it takes time.
Who is your MC and why should we care? A pilot gives you 45 minutes to answer that question, the lore exists to serve that story.
You might also want to flip it on its head. Who's the villain of the pilot? What brings them in conflict with you MC? Who do they work for? Are they even related to your myth arc or are they a MOTW?

I didn't find it engaging and I'm not too fond of Micheals character or him using Dean as a meatsuit because Jenson Ackles is good at playing Dean but not much else ;^)

ya thanks user, all good questions. the problem is i always change the tone i want, the POV i want, the setting, or im never happy with my worldbuilding so i always go back to working on my ground rules and limits on magic, which is a lot more easier for me. documenting, indexing and encyclopedic format flows better from my brain to my hand. also checked

same here but the midseason gives a very satisfying answer. i was close to dropping the show again during season 14 but there is a character reveal later on that makes everything worth it. think of season 6's shaky and seemingly unrelated first half that is given great meaning and tied together well in the second season

You ever hear of the third script rule?
The first two attempts at an idea are always horseshit but you work ideas out best by putting them down on paper as if that's how you plan to do it. The idea is that you write a script and then when it's terrible you throw it out and write another one based on the same idea. When it's also terrible you write a third attempt at the same idea and that's the one you consider your first draft because it's usually quite good.
It's a cliche but just start writing something in format. It'll be terrible but that's kind of the point. Just sit down, write out an outline, then write the pilot. You say you've had it in your head for five years? Get it on paper and it'll turn into a more concrete plot inside five days, I promise you.

Just write something, anything. The first step is always the hardest. You won't churn out a masterpiece, but the editing process is a lot easier. I think New Orleans would be a better choice than New York as the setting for a supernatural series. Southern Mysticism, spooky swamps, French influences, and voodoo, it's got it all. It's close to the center of the continental US, so your MC can interact with and investigate other factions in other cities if the need arises.

It's a legal thing I think. My show was going to be a miniseries where Colt accidentally opens one of the gates of hell and rides around Wyoming trying to shut it up again. It would tell the story of the construction of the Colt and the main villain was going to be a Knight of Hell called Bael it would be set before Cain did his thing so no continuity issues. It's too closely tied to the Supernatural lore for me to just change the names and since the CW bought the script I can't really do it on my own anyway.

I am working on something set in the modern day just now which I'm planning on pitching to them as a web series. I figure if I can film, produce, and present it on a silver platter and tell them I just want access to the intellectual property then they might let it see the light of day. So if I ever get that off the ground then please support that

New one is ten episode outline about a hunter hunting the demon that killed his father who picks up the daughter of the demon's vessel. i really want to recapture the early season feel that the boys have outgrown where ordinary demons were season long threats. No angels, no apocalypse, just a Meg-tier Black Eyed Demon doing its own thing. The central conflict is between the hunter who wants to kill the demon at the cost of the vessel and the daughter who wants to save her father but allow the demon to escape back to hell. The conflict between saving people and hunting things.

I'd definitely give it a try. Just make sure you also establish something unique to set it apart from Supernatural? That way you get SPN fans on board but you also avoid the criticism that it's just a direct rip off? But what do I know. I'm the one stuck in writing my story kek. All the best user

I have. It's a different medium so you shouldn't compare them to each other. Also the Japanese made the adaptation so they supernaturally modified some of the story and the tone to fit the nip audience

Carver was such a dumbass. Why he thought the Amelia arc was even worth considering let alone being greenlit is stupid as fuck as it regresses Sam's arc. If it was a spell Crowley made to keep Sam away from the fold, or Sam's delusionary coping or Amelia being a spy it would have made sense. But no. He went all Being Human on Supernatural (especially Castiel being depowered/human, which he had so many times before, during season 9)

It's the only show on TV I watch, so I'm glad streaming helps it out. And even though I haven't been too into this new season (so far, its kinda hit or miss), I still look forward to new episodes. I can't wait for it to hit DVD though, that's when I'll make up my mind about the whole season. Not having to sit through commercial breaks helps my enjoyment of the show immensely (that's what changed my mind on the seasons with the Leviathans, as I hated that when watching it "live").
