Sky Captain flopped hard

I mean the line between the two is very blurred, some would say nonexistent. I prefer the term atompunk myself because it's a clearer term for what it represents: like steampunk but atomic age.

Sky Captain is dieselpunk. Barring that, it was a terribly made movie. I recently rewatched it and was thoroughly unimpressed with... everything. Dated CGI, piss poor acting etc.

Because fake retrofuturism will always come off as dishonest and anachronistic. Just watch sci-fi from the 30s-70s, problem solved

I’d consider Star Wars retro futurism. Not in the earth sense. In Star Wars everything is totally advanced yet looks fucking old at the same time. The plans to the Death Star were downloaded onto some floppy disk instead of beamed or whatever.
