So, did they ACTUALLY film the spider pit scene or not?

I liked him in the new Ghostbusters.

Brings a dangerous animal to a large city where it causes mayhem. Carl Denham was /ourguy/

Yes but it’s since been lost. I think a few shots from it and some of the bugs were used in The Black Scorpion though.

This, the big sexist ape literally creates damsels in distress.

The original is excellent, and both the 70s version and the 00s version are pretty good. Skull Island is dogshit tho

Happy birthday, you damn dirty ape

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUU

>a literal ape gets to shag Naomi Watts before me

das rite white boy

Skull island was good

In honor of Kong's birthday, I'm gonna finish this picture and donate the proceeds to his wife and kids.

I wonder if Kong had lived at the end and gotten more sequels if he'd occupy the same spot Godzilla does, but for America instead.

The director was a badass and a hero.

if you can get your hands on the 2010 Blu-Ray (the one with Jackson) there's an hour long documentary about Cooper that is well worth watching.

According to the people who know best (Classic Horror Forum) there's no proof whatsoever that the scene ever went out of the planning and test stage but the models survived and O'Brien managed to make his scene for a different movie - The Black Scorpion from 1957. I'm surprised more people don't know about it because it's easily the best scene in the movie that's slightly above average B-movie fun.

They literally made one a couple years ago.

The amount of work they put into that scene is unbelievable.

Compare with today's version: youtu.be/_8M0pVRmJko

Man fuck the haters, that movie was actually good
Really wish they had played up the horror aspect more though, and the brontosaurus herd tumbling down a bowling alley was just plain stupid

Is it true Willis O'brien died in shame after seeing Kong's treatment in King Kong vs Godzilla and Harryhausen never forgave the Japanese?

You will never be forgotten, King Kong.

O'Brien didn't live to see King Kong vs. Godzilla and Harryhausen didn't like Godzilla (his one flaw as far as I can tell) because he thought it ripped off The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and made it cheaper. It's true that Godzilla was partially inspired with The Beast, both are incredible but Godzilla is a one of a kind movie perhaps the best in the genre. Ray hated hearing that. It's true that his style of special effects was more time consuming but the Japanese especially during the black and white era mastered their way of special effects so we can't say it's the poor man's version. In short his reaction to Godzilla was purely personal.

They really need to make a movie on Kong’s creator Merian C. Cooper. Fighter pilot in WWI and a real life Indiana Jones

According to the biography he fought in three wars and the search for Pancho Villa. That and work on the pre-code adventure and special effects movies of golden age Hollywood would make quite a story.

call it "The Man Who Would Be Kong"

>Cooper was a boisterous adventurous hero manlet
>Schoedsack was a reserved low and slow lanklet
>Schoedsack's wife was a tiny soft-spoken woman who would wait on the side with a shotgun in case any of their wild animal film subjects got too dangerous and attacked

yeah I'm thinking it's kino
