Listen friend. Its obvious you don't just love the movie, you are literally IN LOVE with the movie. When people are in love they equivocate, they rationalize, and they make excuses. Which is what you're doing. You're like a battered wife. Literally everyone else can see the obvious and crippling flaws with the movie, and you respond to people pointing out how utterly damaged every aspect of the production has been with little more than "but I love the movie it can't be bad."
That said, that panel could be adapted to about 20 seconds of live action. As the entire leadup to that final VR sequence is a fast-paced, hectic, descent into total insanity, and even gally is unsettled by the sudden tonal shift. So you establish a steadily increasing pace and then that sequence beings a wind-down, as its an editted recap of the first couple of volumes, except with ido swapped with nova and no goddamn hugo. Then you end it on the shot in that last panel, and fade back to the real world.
The problem with the movie is the manga was drawn with the express hope for an anime or movie adaptation. But for whatever reason the movie decided to maul the material into submission before devouring it and shitting it onto the screen.
