The argument I mainly hear is that Middle Earth is supposed to reflect Medieval culture which is why no black people are present... but then surely there would be some black people in other regions right? So as long as Amazon say creates a fictional village of Africans (the LOTR version of Wankanda) that decide to fight amongst the Elves, Dwarves etc then I wouldn't have any issue. BUT if they decide to make there be black Elves etc then yes this will be a major problem.
Should black people be cast in Amazon's LOTR?
No. It would only take one blackwashing of any character for me to refuse to watch it. Tolkien deserves respect and lotr is directly inspired by European mythology. Any changes of this nature is offensive
>to reflect Medieval culture which is why no black people are present
Except they were. There was a metric fuckton of them, usually as what were effectively slaves.
>black people
Arda is canonically our earth in its ancient, mythological past, like Howard's Hyborian age. Africs exists as Far-Harad abd there are black people from there mentioned in RotK. Now fuck off with your /pol/ bait.
Black folks did exist in Tolkiens universe, but they were all fighting for Melkor. He described them as "half troll people, dark of skin" in LotR. Not much else is said about them in any of his tales. But if the show is about Aragon before LotR, Amazon will probably make some bullshit "bad guy sees the light" excuse so Aragon can have his minority sidekick.
There is literally an entire fucking faction of colored people who ride in on GIANT ELEPHANTS
aragorn is a literal sand nigga
Amazons were supposed to be from the area of roughly Ukraine and Turkey and should look Slavic or Turkish. The Dahomey Amazons were a parade unit created for show and badly routed (and then raped) in actual battle, like the much later guard unit in Libya.
Yeah, black people have no culture, whites must share with affirmative culture.
There are no blacks in any LotR books.
This. Tolkein goes so far as to call the ringwraith's evil black riders.
what about the Orcs?
weren't some of the pirates blacks in the movie?
There was a couple black extras in the Hobbit but that's it
Lol, no.
i think replacing all the orcs with black people and saying you're making a statement about racism while saving money on make-up could be cool
Don't really care desu.
But you know alt-righters will be pissed as fuck
I feel like the only character that would fit to be black would be Boromir. But he ded.
Maybe Sam could be black?
Only if you count pacific islanders as black.
Black guy here. Im sick of this pandering. LOTR is a story anyone can relate to, its a fantasy setting, with established lore.
I hated the tokenism in the Shadow of War game, it was jarring
Didn't the woman who is heading the project talk about how it's going to be more diverse? So expect to see nog elfs
there weren't. Medieval "blacks" were Moors, muslims from spain, malta, sicilia not negroids.
Elves are a fictional race. I guarantee you there will be more diversity in the adaptation.
I love how the dlc for the game was focussed around a female and a flying nigger
You just KNOW there were seething hipsters being forced to make another game with a white male so they whined about it until they got to do what they wanted with the dlc
This is not true. You're either a brainlet or a kike.
Nigger tolkein also makes it explicitly clear there is going to be an apocalyptic event where melkor returns from the void and is finally killed, after which the world will be remade.
That's when our world gets created you dummy
There were already plenty of black in LOTR!!!FACT!!!
There weren't any black people in medieval Europe because the Sahara desert was a very effective barrier to any contact.
Canonically false, the men of harad fought in the war and were niggers
There were human zoos with black people in them as late as the 1910s, I get the feeling black people were very very very rare if people paid to gawp at them
>Should black people be
no
Niggers in the Lord of the rings that aren't orcs is the fastest way for me to hate it and not watch it
Niggits、Gorillelves、unthinkable.
No. Just think about it logically.
Should something no one wants to see be seen?
Something that doesn't even want to see itself?
Why do people still think black slavery was an actual thing in europe as it was in the US?
Television & Film & jews
see
Blacks and sandniggers can be Easterlings and Haradrim and I would actually be all for it because I want more war elephants and Aragorn repotedly spent some time in the region which would flesh out the world even more.
Having a family or two of blacks in the fishing village of the Hobbit could have been ok but making them the focus of the camera, the face of the villagers in that scene was just silly.
You just know half of every race will be inexplicably black or asian for some reason
What will they call us this time if hardly anyone watches it?
Millions will watch it by virtue of its brand-name alone. Amazon knows this which is why they can take risks with the casting.
The Witcher however... Not a strong enough brand, it'll bomb 100%
Yes. They would be perfect as Orcs.
Amazon aren't as PC as other companies.
The Grand Tour keeps being called out for being homophobic and they don't care at all.
If there are blacks they will hopefully be dressed in easterling garb.

They are constantly purging right-wing books from their websites.
Not selling Nazi Fanfics isn't the same as making Lord of the Gay black transexuals
I mean arabic people or whatever were in the lotr movies
there's even the whoIe scene where faramir Iooks at the dead one and says his bit about moraIity
aIso there were bIack people in the hobbit in laketown
>bIack people in the hobbit in laketown
don't worry, they made sure to put them front & center.
but the hobbit is shit and should not be a source of inspiration for anyone, especially the last one
Weren't they only in the extended edition?
I don't personally have any issue with having bIack characters in theory but the weird tokenism was very disingenuous
>I don't personally have any issue with having bIack characters in theory
Nah, more people than alt-righters would be pissed. People grew up with LOTR and Tolkien. It's a hugely popular book that a lot of people read. People would care if they just threw in progressive racial casting. They might not boycott the show but they would lose some interest in it.
>Should black people be
No. They should fuck off
epic
The general rules go as
>Is the film in a real historical setting?
>Do the races mean anything to the story?
>Are the characters based on real people?
If the answer to all of those is no then it shouldn't matter if it's a diverse cast of actors.
This is going to trigger some inceIs
Arent ORCS literally supposed to be black?
>Is the film in a real historical setting?
High fantasy is 100% European
>Do the races mean anything to the story?
Yes.
>Are the characters based on real people?
The races are, yes
cters based on real people?
>If the answer to all of those is no then it shouldn't matter if it's a diverse cast of actors.
And of course by "diverse" you really mean nonwhite.
Incel spotted
Europe doesn't need to be tainted by burger slavery shame.
Leave our cultural heritage alone and don't spread your white guilt here.
:(
>should black people be cast
No.
>High fantasy is 100% European
The fantasy film genre is genuinely connected to medieval Europe with swords and shields, magic wizards, dragons... but LotR is set in the fictional world of Middle Earth with a diverse as hell landscape.
>Yes.
How does race factor in at all to the story of LotR?
>The races are, yes
What the hell does that even mean
>And of course by "diverse" you really mean nonwhite.
See the picture. If some Chinese director decided to remake LotR and only had Chinese actors it wouldn't be diverse, nor would it be if some Nigerian made the film with Nigerian actors on a $500 budget
>there's even the whoIe scene where faramir Iooks at the dead one and says his bit about moraIity
was in the book
Why not adapt or make an original fantasy series featuring Black people?
Why not make Earthsea for example?
Everyone in it is varying shays of Black, Brown, and Red.
A very curious thing happened when part of it was adapted into an awful Sci Fi Channel movie years ago: everyone except one character was made white
Curiously there was no outcry from the people who cry about minorities being "forced" into productions
Hyborian isn't intended to be mythical, but a lost age
why would a Chinese director remake LotR rather than adapt Journey to the West?
That would be much better.
Actually come to think of it a high budget pan-Asian production would be pretty cool
>Should black people be cast in Amazon's LOTR?
>Tolkien never explicitly wrote that Gondor et al were based on european civilisation so now we're getting lord of the nigs
Market economics, it is easier to adapt what is known and has an audience and is easier to sell to people and cast actors that are known and viewers are familiar with and you can use their presence to promote the production - look at a movie staring Tom Cruise: the poster will be his head and name and the films title in small print under it all.
We all know Tom Cruise and most will see the film based on his presence in it.
And not many minority actors get to become well known thanks to this chicken and the egg situation
Only if they're not from Middle Earth proper. We don't know what people of the east or nor what the people to the south of Mordor look like. Otherwise no.
WE
No. Based Eru didn’t create niggers in his world.
That's just your assumption.
There weren't any statement of blacks in Tolkien universe.
Minas Tirith aka The White City. I wonder what he meant by that?
t. Eurogamer writer
more like niggers people, right
oh in that case why did blacks help build white supremacy?
>Medieval people have one night stands
>With a fucking nigger
>implying he wasn't referring to rape
Gotta read between the lines bruv
Fuck off nigger
>Amazon's LOTR
This should just not be a fucking thing. What possibly would make them think this is a good idea. Nobody cared about the hobbit movies, everyone will be so tired of medieval fantasy by the end of GoT that it will simply anger them just to see its icon.
Cope
No such thing as an elephant in middle earth.
Yes, this is the perfect reboot cast
Tolkien didn't hate blacks or anything but he was definitely an English nationalist in a very ethnic sense, to the point he would have been happy disbanding the union and have England have firm borders at the walls of Wales and the River Tweed, and Tolkien intended Middle Earth to be the mythology England lost after the Normans came. So shoving blacks into the cultures he clearly meant to be Euro or Anglo like Gondor or Rohan or the Shire is an insult to him. The writers may get more credit if they provide a nuanced character from one of the eastern cultures that fought for Sauron.
>corrupt elves
>get orcs
>corrupt men
>get nogs
seems legit, make it canon
They should make it official that Frodo and Sam are gay. Yeah, they will show how progressive they are.
