jap idols group are still more focused on mainstream music than kpop which is just background noise for lewd girls
admittedly thats where most of the revenue comes, but its still the 2nd biggest industry by revenue (due to limited editions and shit that hikkis buy, and physical formats still being dominant)
but theres still a big industry of good music. jap noise is huge compared to its western counterparts, math rock is also quite popular. even the top40 stuff like utada and shiina is musically valuable
