Films that were critically panned upon release now widely considered kino

not "critically well received but flopped"; critically panned films
The four obvious ones I'll get out of the road:
The Thing (1982)
The Phantom Menace (1999)
Attack of the Clones (2002)
Revenge of the Sith (2005)
What else is there?

Warcraft was, without exaggeration, the worst movie I have ever seen. Every other film in my mind has retroactively gained one point compared to this absolute tidal low of what a bad film could be.

how many movies have you seen? 3?

The Warcraft film was mediocre.

thats a very fitting filename

Predator 2

The still shots look amazing but when you see the orcs in motion it's noticeably bad

Naw mate WC was fucking garbage. The movie should have been split into 3 part saga ala LOTR. It was obvious to anyone that wasn’t mouth breather that they crammed too much shit in the movie. It also doesn’t help that the faggot fan base scream and reee saying it wasn’t for the “casuals” it was for the hardcore fans and how we should have read the books and sunk our lives into the game.

This movie reminded me about why I hated Age of Ultron. Fuck this movie

>The Phantom Menace
>AotC
are you on crack ?

>implying warcraft is widely considerd anything but vidya weeb garbage

I liked it but the human scenes were really lacking in every department. The humor fell flat and there were too many missed opportunities. Also the makeup on Garona was absolute shit.

I unironically enjoyed the Warcraft movie, but as good as the orc CGI was, the fact that that GIANT fucking necklace did not MOVE on Durotan's neck when he was in any position that wasn't standing was very jarring. Dying in his back, is it bunched up under his chin or off to the side? No, just glued to his pecs.

I was a hardcore Warcraft fan since being a teenager and it wasn't well-received by the fandom, wtf are you talking about?

I agree. Three shorter movies culminating with the war would've been better. The dude who played Khadgar was lame as fuck, but Ironforge looked awesome. Made me nostalgic as fuck for 2006.

Vanilla Sky

Do you ever wonder who the fuck is behind posts like these? The Thing is the only movie mentioned in the entire thread that was critically shit on when it came out but later became recognized as a classic masterpiece. The Warcraft movie was almost surreally bad and somehow failed to appeal to the people who played the game as well as the ones who didn't.

Agreed, I’m a huge WC fan so I knew what was going on because I know the story already but I honestly don’t know how non fans would know what the fuck was going on.

what's going on in the bottom right here

The fans didn't like it because they retconned most of the story, on top of it looking cheap as hell. They alienated the fans so much because they thought they were going to appeal to a wider audience.

crammed too much in? it was literally just the plot of WC1. which was covered in like 6 pages of a black and white rules manual in 1990 or whatever, and barely referenced in the actual game. I'd say if anything it was too thin. They didn't start doing all the extended monologuing and FMV stuff until Tides of Darkness.

They are just dancing in front of the green screen, that's how you fight in the warcraft world

Has there ever been an extended cut of this? It feels like huge parts are missing, judging from the pacing.

Warcraft was not great. I only liked it because of nostalgia.

Keep an eye on this guy

>Vanilla Sky
wasn't vanilla sky critically panned AND flopped?
I mean, it was a standard "uninspired hollywood remake of an acclaimed foreign film"; it being a mountain of suck was something everybody predicted when it was still in pre-production

I was one of those nerds really hyped for the Warcraft movie but holy shit the movie was fucking ass

Nigger what? This movie was a complete mess and big disappointment to anyone who is a fan of Warcraft.

Disappointing movie with an unsatisfactory ending

phoneposters can't see filenames.

I like how no one even bothered talking about how the prequels were bad when they were release and are still bad.

Prequels are memekino

Kino???

Harold and Maude was panned, now is KINO

>The Phantom Menace (1999)
>Attack of the Clones (2002)
>Revenge of the Sith (2005)
I'm pretty sure the general consensus is, that these movies were only good when you were a kid, but as you grew up you realized they are really shit, though you'll still watch'em every now and then due to a weird mix of nostalgia and enjoying movies that are so bad, that they're good in a trashy way

>I like how no one even bothered talking about how the prequels were bad when they were release and are still bad.
It's been said so many times at this point it doesn't really bear repeating.

>The Thing
yes
>Prequels
Lol no. They're widely regarded as shit except by three autists on Yea Forums.

Kingdom of Heaven

Open Your Eyes is definitely kino. Vanilla Sky got (justifiably) panned. I'm not sure that really fits the OP though. That kind of thing happens damn near every time someone tries to take a popular euro or asian flick and cash in with an american remake. Just off the top of my head, you saw the exact same thing with Dragon Tattoo, Oldboy, REC, who knows how many others.

It's not really surprising when you think about it. The original being kino is a minimum requirement, because it has to gain the cult following first for the cash-in to even be viable. And then usually said cash-in is relatively low-effort, since it is essentially a sequel trying to capitalize on existing popularity, so it's rarely as good. Vanilla Sky tried to be the exception (it was definitely not low-effort, nor low-budget), but it still ended up being worse than Open Your Eyes by any measure.

Probably the most damning thing is that Penelope Cruz in Open Your Eyes is pure energy and almost impossible not to fall in love with, where in Vanilla Sky she basically phones in her performance and is mostly unlikable. And since falling in love with her character is the mainspring of the plot, that means nothing else really works either. (and let's not even talk about cameron diaz's "acting")

That's a case of Director's Cut living up to the hype for once - the original theatre release is still pretty meh.

>The Thing (1982)
Was panned mostly because it was overtly gore in a time where movies was still a more tamed medium
>The Phantom Menace (1999)
I´m old to remember how the first reviws was well recibed and acclaimed. It was panned after the fan reaction
>Attack of the Clones (2002)
well, yeah, but was more mediocre reviews than bad reviews
>Revenge of the Sith (2005)
It had rave reviews with a lot of them praising the political commentary.
>warcraft
this one was a lot more panned and is shit so is ok

Eeeeeh, Pumping Iron?

t. glow in the dark mousenigger

Ay, hol up hol up, your sayin that i can go up to any woman on the street and ask to fuck her, she will say yes and thank me afterwards? what have i been doing with my life?

I agree with this poster.

no
you are very wrong

This is a false statement

Depends on if you're a real man or not

Why are you listing all of these bad movies?

Looks like he's doing a little dance.

Batman vs Superman. Universally now known among cineasts as the most puire expression of modern kino

I suddenly smell curry and shit for some reason.

While the movie was mediocre I'm glad they actually gave it a shot. Shame it wasn't better because it would've been a constant source of comfy sequels

uh, yea we can

Disney’s were somehow worse
