I liked the scene where he talks to the school principal to try to determine which kid should die.
Kino dontas
How come everyone in this guy movies intentionally act like they're in a high school production of a Shakespeare play or something? I can't stomach this guys movies because the acting is always stilted on purpose for no reason.
All dialogues in the film are exchanges or trades
maybe he's a bresson fan
Google "Iphigenia".
This movie fucking confused me. I understood the entire plot but that was the problem. It's so fucking obvious what happened. Even the characters in the movie should have figured it out. They make zero attempt to apply logic to the situation. The only logical solution they employ is to kidnap Martin. When Kidman did not show any symptoms of the disease, they should immediately know what's going on. They know Martin is dating their daughter. Martin poisoned the boy only. He manipulated the girl into manifesting symptoms, she was either in on it, or he hypnotized her. He gives the entire family gifts, it's not hard to figure out. The way to fix this problem in plot would be to have Kidman collapse near the end of the movie, when they're all cooped up in the house. That's all they had to do to make the doubt palpable enough that Farrel would consider killing his kid. I don't give a shit if Martin is literally magical. I don't nitpick movies. But this shit was so glaring. The characters have to be retarded to not figure it out or at least think they figured it out only to be proven wrong, which would have been a good way to surprise the viewer too. I also think it's stupid that Kidman started worshiping the kid, and yes I know the symbolism behind that.
I wanted to like this movie, and I did. Great acting, direction and suspense. But this part of it pretty much ruined it. Also, one nitpick but I don't think Farrel's original sin was fleshed out enough.
He's God in this scenario.
To tell you that the movies exist in very similar but different universes. For example, this movie exists in a universe in which society runs on transactional interactions.
You could have just said you're a pleb.
This
This movie is hella tite
ah yes, the sacred beer
patrician way to tame a girl
Why did she pose like her mother? Why did Farrel mention jerking his dad off? Why did Martin mention sexual things about his mother?
Why was there an incest theme that seemingly had no point?
Also, why did fat bald doctor think he had a chance to cuck Colin Farrel who looked so good in this movie that I almost turned gay?
I wish I looked like that as a teen.
GGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH
The entire film is a reference to an ancient Greek Tragedy called "Iphigenia in Aulis" by Eurpides.
>The Greek fleet is waiting at Aulis, Boeotia, with its ships ready to sail for Troy, but is unable to depart due to a strange lack of wind. After consulting the seer Calchas, the Greek leaders learn that this is no mere meteorological abnormality but rather the will of the goddess Artemis, who is withholding the winds because Agamemnon has caused her offense.
>Calchas informs the general that in order to appease the goddess, he must sacrifice his eldest daughter, Iphigenia. Agamemnon, in spite of his horror, must consider this seriously because his assembled troops, who have been waiting on the beach and are increasingly restless, may rebel if their bloodlust is not satisfied. He sends a message to his wife, Clytemnestra, telling her to send Iphigenia to Aulis on the pretext that the girl is to be married to the Greek warrior Achilles before he sets off to fight.
Iphigenia's daughter is sacrificed. The play as it exists in the manuscripts ends with a messenger reporting that Iphigenia has been replaced on the altar by a deer.

how are we supposed to know this?
Through the title. In one of the endings to the play, Iphigenia either gets turned into a deer or they sacrifice a deer to the Gods in her stead. I forgot.
You're not supposed to. It's just one of the themes. It doesn't even follow the story all that closely.
If you think Martin had any supernatural powers you're a fucking retard.
Why did Steven tell the kid about jerking his dad off when he could have just said a completely innocent secret?
It just be like that sometimes

so the kid would know for sure dad means business when he asks you to tell him a secret
There are hundreds of better secrets or lies you could have told. But also, why the incest theme?

But he has powers, tho.
He has none. He only poisoned the boy. He manipulated the girl.
I thought this was a teen Disney movie.
I don't think so. The doctors did a lot of medical tests and they didn't find anything. So, he was lying or it was some surrealist shit.
Greek stuff... and shit?
It is.
what’s he thinking about
Pretending to be God through the use of poison and manipulation. Also, heavy autism.
I dun bumped me 'ead.
There's no poison
Is it ever confirmed or denied they did a toxicology?
Colin Ferrel's hairy cock and balls.
The whole point is: you're a fool for trusting your live on something like hippocratic medicine. The people behind that are clueless and doesn't have any kind of criterion. Doctors aren't gods and they are usually stupid, like Farrell.
But something as basic a poison could be discovered very easily. So, Martin fooled everyone and manipulated those childs or it was some surrealist shit. But it wasn't something conventional .
One of the kids writes a book report on it. I think the principal mentions it to the dad
family
I laugh so hard
Yeah, but it's more like a reference or starting point for the tale than whole point of the movie.
it's literally namedropped in one of the most ham-handed namedrops i've ever seen
It doesn't matter that much.
