Be honest, how many of you went straight back to rewatch S1 after the S3 finale, just to remember what it looked like when the show was good and engaging?
No it's Lonestar
>spend 10 years writing and honing your atmospheric, Ligotti-plagiarised masterpiece to perfection
Versus having 6 months to cobble together whatever mystery detective shite you can put down on paper so a studio can cash in on the success of the name of your previous creation.
Gay
reggie ledoux did a poo
op here
Yeah I did, 5 sec into the intro its so obvious how much better it is, it's crazy. Episode 1 digs right in and makes you interested "Then you need to start asking better questions" bam
If you are not 120% on board by end of episode 3 you can just stop watching.
Actual detective work, everything feels so smoother and feels connected, deep history and also just some random interesting louisiana folk.
The rural almost apocalyptic background...
I think this is a big part of the reason, though that before season 2 started.
You gotta give Pizza credit for being able to con HBO into giving him 2 more seasons when he was already out of ideas after the first
>also just some random interesting louisiana folk
Yeah, some user in another thread pointed out how this made the show's universe feel so much bigger and more alive, like it really was a place where people were living their often tragic lives. They did an ace job on casting.
Just of the top of my head
>Charlie Lange
>old man with the crab traps
>revival tent preacher
>Dora Lange's mother with the headaches and fucked up fingernails
>scumbag Billy Lee Tuttle
>Ginger
S2's and S3's secondary characters felt so bland by comparison.
I decided to rewatch season 1 literally the instant I finished the third. The fucking cheesy happy ending complete with "old man" makeup in rocking chairs on the porch was such a disappointment.
Yeah thats the people I'm talking about, had forgotten how good the preacher is and for some reason the crab trap man stuck with me.
Even the indian that gets blamed in season 3 feels less defined.
3 is pretty good but when you compare it to 1 it just can't compete
FUCK Marty and his family though, I honesly liked Amelia more
I will go to my grave saying Season 2 is a great season of TV.
Lol I rewatched S1 after about 2 episodes of S3. Then, before S3 was over I still wanted to rewatch another episode of S1.
>FUCK Marty and his family though
Well, it's some relationship and teenage drama thrown into an occult murder-mystery, so that plot line was bound to stand out.
But without it Marty wouldn't be very fleshed out, and then the dynamic between him and Rust wouldn't feel substantial, so I can't hate it. It do mostly skip the Marty family scenes when rewatching, though.
I know but at least they could've made Maggie not be such a bitch
Whenever I think about rewatching S2 I just remember how uninterested I am in the Los Angeles setting and lose any interest in seeing it again. Just feels like another generic urban crime drama.
and you will still be wrong and needlessly contrarian
>happy ending
araaea u retarded
Season 1 is just too good. That constant feeling of conspiracy, snuff film that could make a hard man break, drama between detectives, that undercover scene. It has basically everything a neo-noir genre needs while being its own thing, everything is so tight.
Not saying Season 3 is bad. I enjoy the ending too especially Hays trying to confirm that one last truth for closure but forget how he end up there. The ending is kind of bittersweet.
Out of the three seasons they are the only dets to actually officially solve their case
''True Detective'' my ass more like ''Failed Detective''
So Rust was bullshitting the interviewers with his philosophical ramblings, right? Just feels like he's fucking with them here on rewatching these scenes.
Nah it was just Fukunigga, Nic is a hack.
They solve the case in Season 2.
Ani sends all the info to journalists at the end.
Yeah, you could make the case that he was pushing them with edgy shit to get a read on them.
But after the interviews, when he teamed up with Marty again, he was still saying similar stuff, so who knows.
He hasn't made one good films/show since.
Season 1 was a mixture of everything working. Nic's script was phenomenal, Louisiana as the setting, Matthew and Woody were both really into their roles....... Having the same director for every episode definitely helped though.
I liked season 3 for what it was. I knew it wouldn't love up to season 1 but it's still the best show on TV
Nic wasn't too happy about doing the long tracking shot.
I marathoned S1 straight through after finishing Season 3. I doubt I could do that with S3, definitely not with S2. I enjoyed S3 until rewatching S1; now I'm disappointed with it.
>It was lightning in a bottle, wasn't it
Nope, we all just gaslit ourselves into thinking it was good in the first place.
>muh McConnaissance
>muh HBO peak TV
Does he really parody Fukunaga in Season 2? Kek, what a bitter manlet.
I'm cautiously hyped about Bond 25.
His ego is the size of an oil tanker
>get HBO to kick him out cause he hurt your ego by scrapping your retarded ideas
>still be such a bitter manlet that you parody him on the next season
Nice hook, Marty.
Confirmed for retard, the mayors son became the new mayor they didn't solve shit.
Dubcosa marty
Marty's lawn is the key to all of this
Only way this show could be redeemed is if the next season is literally a sequel to the first one, as in some local detectives stumble on evidence of the same Tuttle conspiracy still going on elsewhere in the state and recruit the help of Rust and Marty. That would be garbage too though, probably. Best just to end the franchise at this point.
I really don't get why S3 got so much hate. Of course it didn't live up to S1 but I thought it was still a pretty quality show. Much better than S2
That wasn't lightening, it was piss.
Daughter having premonition about the sex cult went NOWHERE.
The big bads were three inbred hillbillies.
are you inbred aswell?
>The big bads were three inbred hillbillies
No, the three inbred hillbillies were the goons who did the dirty work for the real big bads.
Kinda was, yeah.
Also literally NO ONE was calling for a hyper-blackualized season, yet HBO did it in the hammiest way possible.
>Daughter having premonition about the sex cult went NOWHERE.
It was the noosphere you dumdum
>I honesly liked Amelia more
>outside of the episode she's introduced in she talks about the case every
>single
>scene
>this goes on for 5 to 6 episodes
>no character development by the finale
They honestly should have fleshed out Hayes partner more than give her 20 minutes an episode.
It's always a silver lining thing.
>S1 find the killer but nothing happens to the rest of the pedo ring
>S2 find the truth but the evidence destroyed
>S3 find Julie but don't remember why you're there and who she is because dementia
There's always at least one detective by the end of each season that knows the whole truth, but there's always a catch.
yep just started rewatching last night
It still bothers me that he drank Lone Star. That shit is like 4.5% abv
>nah it was just Fukunigga
No. He just helped reign in Nic's ideas. Pizza is an excellent and engaging writer, but he's a novelist. He needs to learn to write better scripts and let people help him in that department. I still look forward to his future projects. Wish he'd team up with Jeff Nichols. Seems right up his alley.
>There's always at least one detective by the end of each season that knows the whole truth, but there's always a catch.
Is that what makes one a True Detective?
Knowing the truth, but also knowing it's not enough?
REDJEE LADOO
TALMBOUT A YELLA KANG
He wants to kill time and numb the pain. He can drink a bunch over the day and feel ok. Not everyone drinks to get blotto.
>mfw love day drinking alone, surfing a buzz.
Just another 25 years till I can drink everyday. Once I hit 50, I'll be going gull Rust and Roland. No gf, no friends; just Alcohol and a cosy little house.
>Daughter having premonition about the sex cult went NOWHERE.
Maybe something happened when she was a kid with the people her grandparents were connected to. Might explain her wanting to get railed by the 2 jock kids.
I miss Hays And Roland already lads.
Nic had 2 fucking seasons and like 10 different directors to prove he's not a hack yet he's still a fucking hack.
People like you give way too much credit to Nic and take it away very easily from Cary.
yeah maybe i should learn something
it hurts man
Also doing illegal shit to solve the case.
I only miss Roland, fuck Hays and fuck Amelia
There are already rumours that Season 4 will follow 2 detectives that are dirty taking bribes from the tuttle family. They know they are being hunted and halfway through it will reveal Marty and Rust.
Functional alkie here. Used to drink Żywiec Porters - almost 10%. Absolute black as night poison
Now I just slam shitty Bud ricebeer. Can’t live your life in 4th gear young man
no there aren't
Goin duck huntin whitta shovel nahmean
yeah ive had a couple of semi panic attacks from getting the shakes, one rcently. Ive been trying hard to tone it doem lately
That doggo looks genuinely sad for Roland.
Roland > Marty
and Hayes feels like a real person while Rust feels like an edgy comic book fan fic character.
Solid Baltic Porter. Medium bittersweetness, roasty toasty maltiness, hints of smoke and pumpernickel. A surprisingly good beer I've seen on countless Chicago grocery/liquor store shelves but never tried til now. Glad I did. Perfect beverage to sit inside and wait out this ice storm.
Na zdrowie!
She was just discovering her sexuality and later thaks to shitty parenting was abit of a slut. There was no need for some contrived bullshit where even the detective's underage daughters were molested by the cult. What would be the odds of that? It would be pure hackery.
Just finished s1. Gotta say, it's a bit overrated. Rust is just way too tryhard and the story gets really boring a little over halfway through. I loved the atmosphere at the start of the show but it became very reddity at some point
How can one show have so many pure fucking kino moments?
