If truman deciding that he wanted to travel somewhere via plane was such a legitimate threat...

if truman deciding that he wanted to travel somewhere via plane was such a legitimate threat, why would they even incorporate the existence of planes or airports at all into the show? i mean, truman only knows planes exist because they told him about it

The more different the dome world is to the outside world, the more difficult it would be to maintain the illusion. Also, audiences watching expect the dome world to be as accurate to real life as possible. Creating some weird moon culture would have been hard for the actors and not as interesting to the viewers

how does 1 day old chicken knows what hawk looks like ?

The real question is how they handled TV. Did they have people watching current broadcasts, making sure no shows inserted secret messages aimed at Truman? Or was everything archive footage, in which case the actors wouldn't be able to mention anything pop culture related?

Million years of evolution, planes have only been on earth for a hundred.

Only 16% of Americans have a passport

its a MOVIE. for ENTERTAINMENT. not critical analysis. wtf nerds

>not critical analysis
Cringe

They're probably using props from the "real world" to use in the show/set. Carefully scrapping all references to planes from all the prop-magazines, billboards, etc would be way much work than just engineering Truman to never actually be able to fly a plane. Not to mention it's another thing all the actors would have to keep in mind 24/7.

the most interesting idea is that the world outside the dome is a dystopian, planet-wide concrete jungle hellish urban landscape, and the reason people watch the Show en-masse despite it ostensibly being extremely boring 90% of the time is because the things shown; nature, idyllic rural towns, and simple communal life don't exist in the world at large. it also explains why the other actors are willing to spend decades of their life living in the dome themselves

>Carefully scrapping all references to planes from all the prop-magazines, billboards, etc would be way much work than just engineering Truman to never actually be able to fly a plane.
You've got to wonder what's even in these prop-magazines. Do they just run the same internal issue every day until Truman picks up a copy for once? Are they all just blank inside and kept behind a counter so he can only buy the one's he's supposed to?

They probably have a deal with a few magazines. Ad revenue for being on the show, in return the magazines don't ever publish anything about the Truman Show.

Assuming they really showed 24/7 of his entire life since childhood, did they also film him on the toilet? Or when he did something really inappropriate like making weird impressions or faces in front of a mirror, or touching his dick (or straight up masturbating)?

Shit would be embarrassing.

They probably just used real life magazines and television shows and movies and such, but just screened them to make sure there were no references to The Truman Show. With the newspaper, it'd be easy enough to create your own using news from actual newspapers plus a few fake stories about the local area, again scrubbing any and all references to the show.

eww

They had the cameras angled in a specific way and could cut away. If I remember the movie right, they'd also cut to highlight reels of stuff that happened in the past. Be pretty easy to go "oh, Truman is jerking it, let's cut the camera feed and show a montage of Truman as a kid or something." Plus, they control how much porn he gets, especially since this was all pre-Internet.

Never thought about that. Well done user.

>really inappropriate like making weird impressions or faces
did you even watch the movie?

the tv movies on his film would feature planes at some point

That's the dumbest fucking allegory I have heard in weeks holy fucking shit you retard

Most people are boring and don't travel. The average person would have lived and died in that town none the wiser. Part of the reason we empathise so much with Truman and dislike the director so much is because at heart Truman is an adventurous spirit that they've psychologically manipulated into being terrified of his only affordable method off the island (fear of the sea/ocean).

Is Truman really adventurous though? Maybe that too is just a product of a man raised by committee, in a world where the only real hardship he's ever endured was just to stop him trying to sail. Everyone around Truman is pleasant and agreeable to him.

Because planes existed in the ancient black&white shows they broadcast in his simulated reality.

>its a Truman finally snaps and murders his wife episode

>it's a 16 year old Truman experiments with bisexuality and looks at gay porn while sticking a shampoo bottle up his ass episode

Too much effort and would be a snowballing cluster fuck the more you have to introduce in-world without a filter. It's much easier to just project one on the dome once in a while so he's actually seen what the fuck they do and a lot of small towns don't have airports so that wouldn't be too much a stretch.

This one time I got in on the slightly bigger elevator used for freight stuff at my work and out of the nowhere the back fucking opened up and it was like willy wonka's chocolate factory back there.

Blew my fucking mind.

They probably did their own pseudo news broadcast and used shows from their network to avoid royalties. The actors weren’t supposed to make pop culture references anyway.

It's a fair question. The producers were kind of gambling that he wouldn't end up as a monosyllabic basement dweller who ends up getting a My Little Pony doll stuck in his urethra.

are we living in a dome, are flat earthers right?

Truman or edtv? Which should i watch?
