Terminator one is a movie without flaws.
Even the bad cgi/stop motion whatever the fuck it is really isn't that bad at all, it's perfectly serviceable and is used sparingly. More often then not they use the real sized robot with a closer shot, and it's fucking terrifying. Real gun's too...or at least very real replica's, none of this muzzle flash added in post.
What it exceeds in most is just making sense, the premise, the setup, the motivations and yes, even the time paradox's make sense. I understand what the terminator is doing at any moment and is being a logical machine, i understand what the tactics kyle uses against the terminator, i understand why all other characters say and do the things they do.
And to top it off, a fucking fantastic sound track.
Terminator 2 is still fucking fantasic as well, but apples and oranges. Though, gun to my head, i'd still say T1 edges it out slightly.

I really don't think Skynet had all the time (ironic, in a time travel movie) to whip up some gun/bomb/backpack full of gear, coated in some living organic skin sack and send it back with the terminator.
Isn't it canon that the resistance had Skynet on the backfoot, literally had them by the balls and was just about to fuck up their last stronghold and Skynet, desperate as all fuck, played it's last hand;send a random terminator(they already had skin on them as they were infiltrators) through there experimental time machine they had been working on.
Reese saw this happen when they were storming the base, and jumped through without a second thought, shortly after it all blew up/malfunctioned etc.
And though Reese mentions to Sarah later on that the time machine can only send organic matter through, perhaps he only figured this out after jumping through fully clothed and armed only to arrive naked and unarmed;perhaps Skynet and the resistance never even knew only organic matter could go back-the Terminator and Reese may very well have gone through loaded to the gills not knowing all there shit would disintegrate.
