Why would they call it the Clone Wars and not the Droid Wars? Or the Separatist Wars?

So much damage caused by this one off the cuff line

not really

the Clone Wars could have been a cool thing if he did it in a different way. I wonder if Lucas actually had anything in mind for what the Clone Wars even were at this point.

Because "clone wars" sounded like a cool label for a "historical" sci-fi war at the time of New Hope's creation, but by the time they were making the prequels they realized that if Jedi Knights cut up people the way they were cutting up Battle Droids they'd maybe get an R-rating. So they made the antagonists mostly robots to avoid that, though to Lucas's credit he did still show people getting cut up, albeit sparingly.

I bet if the prequels were made before the original trilogy, they might have just called it "the droid wars," but they really were just making it up as they went along.

I kind of liked the old EU version of the Clone Wars where the clones were flawed copies of powerful Jedi. It's cheesy as hell but it still would have been cool to see that version.

clones are not cool in ANY fiction, and they ruin the star wars aesthetic.

This has all been retconned

Because Yoda decides to dub the war "the Clone War" for no reason at the end of episode 2. Then all the characters in the galaxy name the war that because I guess they watched the movie too.

Gotta agree with this, it always felt like a weird line to me and would be better served with the Mandalorian Wars.
