American Psycho had an interesting time period, setting and profession. Nobody wants to be the ugly nerd in silicon valley that still loses women to Wall Street chads.

It could work if its basically zuckerberg (social media executive) that's non-chalant about thinking of his users as information cattle to squeeze money out of and goes around thinking he owns everyone he sees on the street..

Except that programmers in the valley now out earn investment bankers in midtown. If you're a finance professional you'll also make more working in tech. Also, women in california are objectively more attractive than new york women.
