>You have a social security number, you pay your taxes
Why does Agent Smith say this? Literally every American has a social security number. It's like saying that Mr. Anderson has 2 eyeballs.....it's true, but it's completely fucking irrelevant to the situation.
You have a social security number, you pay your taxes

To indicate he is an uninteresting number to them and to also show they have access to all of his information.
he's saying that he participates in the system, the system Smith enforces
also there are people who live off the grid and don't have SSNs
they aren't in america they're in the matrix, which is one green tinted city
and it's in Australia
yeah, i have an SSN
yeah, i paid 40% in taxes for 2018
yeah, i love america
Not this guy.
He's explaining the normality of his deception.
Are you stupid?
The reason he brings it up is to highlight how irrelevant Mr. Anderson APPEARS to be, by following the rules and not getting caught.
Come on, watch the fucking film properly.
He literally says "You've been living two lives" and uses that example to indicate how mundane Thomas Anderson is vs. Neo
Jesus Christ, that guy at 2:26 looks just like me. My doppelganger.
Based mountain man.
Smith is one of my favorite movie villains of all time goddamn. I love how the other Agents are unemotional and treat killing Morpheus and his goons the same way humans treat stepping on ants and don't particularly give a damn one way or another. I love how Smith obviously FUCKING HATES humanity and relishes hurting them and derives sadistic pleasure from it. And I love how Smith knows that's wrong for a machine to have those kinds of feelings and so he has to hide it from his coworkers. That being said, there did seem to be some part of him that was willing to cut deals with humans in exchange for progress. I get the feeling that he would have honored his deal with Cypher.
Smith becomes more human while Neo becomes more machine, it's a great duality. Smith was intentionally programmed with this fault by the Oracle
It's always fucking enraged me that all the color grading on future releases makes everyones outfit's look green, when Smith and the agents were given green suits to stand out from the other characters.
I did not know this.
I agree with this entire post unequivocally.
He's saying Mr. Anderson is a real human being, and implying they, agents of the government, make you so.
It's an allegory to [You know who]
>replying unironically to a troll post
are you countertrolling
it's a powerplay
good cops do this too during the interrogation, the idea is to strip away his security
It's one thing to be a good goy, but you don't have to take pride in it.
there's like 10m people in america that don't have ss numbers
>Literally every American has a social security number.
they do these days
being a 30 something in the 90s means neo might have been one of the people who didn't have one from birth and had to get one later
This is a good post
They're not really people, and you know it.
>What were you doing?

Maybe "You registered for selective service" takes too long to say.
>>You have a social security number, you pay your taxes
Literally me, except I haven't paid a single cent into income tax or Social Security in my entire life, so I just have a Social Security number that tells the gubmint they owe me Chipotle money.
He says he lives two lives. One is the by the rules wagie and the other is anonymoose
The highest marginal tax rate in 2018 was 37%... and I doubt you made over $500,000 in 2018.
You would have to make a lot over $500k a year to approach 40%
you actually sent that in?
