Seen the movie several times and it's legitimately a fun movie aside from how Hugo is represented and two scenes in particular, the kiss scene and the apartment scene. Not for Alita's dialogue, but for how Hugo was bungled.
It felt like the Hugo casting and writing was mandated by the studio, he even had a sexy shirtless scene, where he should have been presented as a younger, scrawnier kid someone like Finn Wolfhard or even Tom Holland. Seeing it several times also just really made me realise how fucking atrocious whoever they got to be Hugo's acting is.

Not him but the best fighting move in the whole movie was the air drop kick on grewishka at the beginning with the flashback, just the way the camera is angled and how she yells and the sound design and it reminds me of the ending in Spacegodzilla where there's random blue beams shooting out of him before he fires, there should be some audio-visual umph to attacks and blows.

Just came back from seeing it in IMAX the second time, fourth time in total. I think I figured out why I love this movie so much. Based Jim set the bar with Avatar and very few movies even try to meet it. All this capeshit, while I enjoy some of it, feels like they've tricked me into thinking the bar was much lower than what Cameron set it to. I really haven't been this entertained in years. The script is so tight, the world so vibrant and the characters so lovable that it puts movies that are a full 60 min longer to shame. How the fuck did they trick us into thinking The Force Awakens was a good movie?

They're two sides to the same coin. Both protagonists suffer immensely and yet, they provide a split. BR2049 is the world as you see it when it's worst. Grim, uncaring, unloving. The world of Alita is the world which you want to to be. Where struggle is rewarded. Where the pure of spirit rise to the adoration of those around them. Neither is true to life, but they're both equally important to remember.

Butchered the manga, hack writing, terrible costume design, Rodriguez Mexicanized The Scrapyard into "Iron City", cut out all the gritty realism. Traded real blood for blue blood. Cut out the entire motorball storyline. Cut out numerous character arcs. Glad it bombed.
He was at the U.S. premiere, but they clearly invested way more in to the Chinese marketing.

It was fucking hilarious seeing Doc Ido wearing scrubs and Lands End jackets. There wasn't a true "bad guy" in manga, everyone was human with humanity injected into them, but Rodriguez turns everyone into either good or bad with no depth. This was a movie made for children.

Did you miss her being born into Ido's daughter's body, followed by being reborn as a more capable and mature young women in her berserker body for instance? Punctuated by how she carried herself throughout?
