Be honest, did you ever hear of “Captain Marvel” before this stupid movie?
I knew traditional heroes like Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, The Hulk, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Iron Man, etc. BEFORE movies, cartoons and tv shows featured them. I even heard of the more obscure ones like Black Panther.
But Captain Marvel? Who is this bitch? Why is she suddenly the focus and THE Marvel hero now? What is iconic about her? Until this movie went into production I never even heard of her before. I’m not misogynistic, I know female capeshit characters like Wonder Woman or Catwoman, but Captain Marvel? Feels forced. I thought Captain Marvel was the Shazam guy that looks like Superman with the lightning bolt on his chest? Why are they suddenly hyping and pushing this random chick? They never pushed Iron Man and Captain America this hard, and to me, they’re both of Marvel main protagonists. Makes no sense.
Carol has always been C-List but after the MCU started gaining popularity and they couldn't use X-Men, they started pushing Carol as Marvel's Wonder Woman. The most interesting parts of her were retconned, like her alcoholism, getting raped by her future son and falling in love with him, etc

Capt Flatass was never that popular, even in the world 70s, when it was blonde dude as Capt Marvel and Carol looked hot and was call Ms Marvel they weren't that popular. He was made just to get the rights to the name and Ms Marvel along with Spiderwoman and She-Hulk were made to keep LarryFlynt from making porn parodies.
The original Capt Marvel from a different comicbook company was more popular that Superman at one point. My Grandad read those, now the MCU movie is being hyped and he's confused. I assured him there's another one to wait for.

The DC and Marvel comic heroes you mentioned are icons in their own rights . . . they also have decades worth of material to their name. Only so much you can do with them. Only now she's a liason between the cosmic circlejerk and the Earth circlejerk, and they crank up the feminism. No one cared. So a third reboot in 2018, and did anyone care? Fuck no.
Besides the rape? She's best known for getting cucked out of her powers by Rogue, who is best known as the girl superman but also with temporary absorption powers

Oldfag comics reader here, so "yes", I'd heard of her, but--like most casual comics fans, I only collected the major titles and didn't give two shits about any of the also-ran titles. The only way you'd know anything about the Skrull/Kree nonsense is if it was featured in any of the Fantastic Four storylines.
It also helps to remember that virtually NO one knew (or cared) about Guardians of the Galaxy until Gunn made them a "thing" with the MCU.
Fun fact: Billy has been called Shazam for longer than Carol Danvers has been called Captain Marvel, and yet marvelfags feel entitled enough to get mad at people who claim he's Captain Marvel

Me and my brother played this trading card game with Marvel superheroes when we were little kids. Spent too much money on it, but we were like 9 at that time. Captain Marvel was a man and one of the best cards, but neither my brother nor me knew what he was about. Even before the movies came out, we had heard of Thor and Iron Man. But Captain Marvel was entirely new to us despite apparently being one of the best. It was like he had no identity compared to Thor, Hulk, Iron Man or even Captain America.
Choosing a women because "WOMEN ARE STRONG AND CAPTAIN MARVEL IS STRONG" was pretty obvious. This shit was doomed to fail from the start, it's not even (completely) about Brie Larson.

Yup. Back when I was 11 there was this mmorpg game called Super Hero Squad Online that I used to play everyday. Game had a ton of playable characters and Miss Marvel was one of the free ones.
