55 is Kinuba’s Motorball number. Did you notice that nurse Gerhad is rocking the merch in memoriam of Kinuba in the tryout game Also Hugo is wearing a 55 shirt in the scrimmage scene in the first act. I like that sort of thing.
82 is the number Tanji wears in the scrimmage. Who is he a fan of?
Easton Wood
i want jimbo and betito to go nuts on the sequels, get more anime bullshit fights on it.
Austin Peterson
Also when Alita was in the sunken spaceship, the alien crew had enlarged eye sockets. This film has crazy levels of detail you don't pick up on the first viewing.
I just saw it for the first time this morning, and I have to say I agree with the posters saying they tried to fit too much of the manga into two hours. They should have cut the last thirty minutes of the plot and let the rest of the story expand to fill the 2 hours. I also would have liked to see more practical special effects, and I thought Keean Johnson's acting didn't live up to his central place in the story.
Also...
This movie is the best movie I've seen in ages I'm not going back to that soulless marvel junk food or watch disney picking over Star Wars' corpse this is the adapted manga movie I've always wanted this is the cyberpunk movie I've always wanted this is the fun action movie with a heart I've always wanted fuck the haters fuck the critics fuck the Hollywood establishment...
in fact... FUCK ALL THOSE WHO INSULT ALITA.
And most of all fuck everyone who hasn't seen it yet. If this movie doesn't get a sequel because some politicised critics spiked its performance at the box office then I will be beyond angry. Spread the word, anons. Do not stand by in the presence of evil.
>I also would have liked to see more practical special effects As far as I noticed, the only practical effects were the hell hounds when you first see them. Everything else was either CGI or practical enhanced with CGI, like the electric skates.
Adam Diaz
Is her face cgi or does the actress really have eyes like that?
Jaxson Perez
You ever hear the director talk about how expensive every shot of Alita is and realize how much she dominates the film, how much thought and calculation went into making sure every moment that she's on screen is utilized to the fullest and not a single second of her is wasted?
This might be the most loved cinematic character of all time, from a combined fan and creator perspective. Every moment of her existence is filled with sincere love.
Jack Brown
I assumed her whole squad was total-replacement cyborgs. They're not limited to looking like their original bodies - although I guess it helps with identification.
Michael Cruz
OOOOOH IMAGINOS
Lucas Ortiz
Her entire body is CGI. Her movements were just captured off Rosa.
Henry Thompson
Alita herself was beautifully rendered, but I felt that a lot of the other cyborgs needed to be given a little more texture and weight. There were some sequences, particularly on the Motorball track, were I didn't /feel/ the impacts anymore than I would in a cartoon.
Nah I'm not into collectible figurines. Maybe I'll get the art book someday, and the novelization/prequel. I'm more interested on getting my hands on the manga at the moment, and the DVD once it's released.
her face looks off. could they not get rosa's likeness or something?
Jaxon Morris
I remember walking out of the cinema the first time I watched it and thinking about how much hinged on then getting Alita perfect and they did!
Josiah Campbell
Hmm, unfortunately, Alita: Battle Angel is tracking exactly alongside Blade Runner 2049 at the US box office. So that means it will end up with 90 to 92 million at the end of it's US run. Luckily, the countries overseas are giving it much, much more love and attention, so it will be fine there, just disappointing in the states.
this post sounded dumb to me initially but you're unironically right wtf
Nicholas Clark
yeah it's blatant reading the factoid about where zapans forehead mark came from in some wiki got me into BÖC to begin with
Brayden White
Why the ever loving fuck does the u.s. have shit taste in entertainment?
Zachary Lewis
Same issue with me. I was so close to buying it, but the face, man.
Levi Powell
I fucking hate my country sometimes. I totally understand why foreigners like making fun of Americans and calling us fat and stupid because HOLY FUCK am I tired of having to run into those kinds of people so much.
Grayson Thomas
I wanna go but everyone I know is passing on this film. Do I really attempt going alone? In my 25 years of existence, it’s never happened.
Oliver Perez
It's a bunch of things that culminated at this, but thankfully, China and surrounding countries are fucking love it. This upcoming weekend will literally end with Cameron either confirming a sequel or putting it on hold. It just needs to hit that 400 million mark Monday are we're fine.
Go and convince the people you know to go with you.
Nolan Wilson
Pass on it The movie is complete and utter pleb trash on the same level as capeshit and post tokyo drift FF movies
Logan James
That's nice I guess. I think Heavy Metal got me into them. 90s manga was full of music references, I wonder why they stop that.
Kevin Phillips
It is. I went on my own and enjoyed myself greatly
Justin Johnson
I guess now with tickets you purchase online, you don’t have to wait in line, you can just go to the ticket taker employee and just pretend you’re meeting someone inside.
Isaac Ramirez
I saw almost all of the major ballers from the motorball arc in the background at one point or another too. I think the only ones missing were the giant turtle guy and Zazie.
Jeremiah Price
Has anyone proven they’ve seen it 20+ times in the theater like the one Zootopia user?
Juan Morris
I blame the marketing desu. The trailers didn't sell me the movie, and I heard little else about it. Word of mouth seems like the way most people found out about the movie, which is a shame.
Going to the cinema alone is actually the best way to do it, I've found. Even better if you can go at a time when there won't be anyone else in the theatre. There were literally only two other people in the theatre when I saw Alita, sitting right at the back. Couldn't have been better (from my perspective, although obviously I with the movie was doing better at the box office). No faggots on their phones, no idiots whispering stupid comments to each other, no people getting up to go to the bathroom every five minutes. Going to the cinema alone is the patrician way to do it.
Christopher Adams
It's so interesting, Alita will break box office records, but not in the way you think. With the way it's tracking in China, it could be the first production ever to make less than 100 million in the US, but make 200 million in China. Also, China's opening weekend was the biggest opening ever for Fox, and it's tracking better than Bumblebee and Aquaman, which went on to gross over 150 million in China. It's doing fantastic everywhere, but the US. What the hell.
I have seen a picture of an user with a dozen or so tickets of different screenings
Noah Rivera
either because the copyright jew extended its slimy tentacles towards japan or because manga artists became overall worse and less soulful
Landon Murphy
bad marketing in the states
Mason Brown
Burgerland is a land of Jewish golems. The conditioning is deep, one would almost even say native.
Isaiah Parker
Remember to all the people out there who are hurting that you need to let yourself be healed. Don't hold on to the past just because you spent a long time there.
>It's doing fantastic everywhere, but the US. What the hell Chinks love "action movies with good CGI and cute/beautiful actors" and Europe is weeb territory. Same for SEA and SA I guess? Spics seems like huge weebs. Japan will watch it for obvious reasons.
inB4 chink Figure 4
Josiah Thompson
That was just as good as I could have hoped.
Too bad the US doesn't have any taste or soul so we might not see a sequel.
Noah Adams
link?
Tyler Rogers
Trust me user. Mostly everyone in the US that did see it LOVE it. And im sure james cameron is aware of the chinese love their getting. A lower budget sequel is still possible
Elijah Long
>mfw I look into Alita's eye while she's focused in the heat of battle and I'm transported to the moon betwixt cyborg armies and aerial fighting underneath a sky city while fury rains down on the city below and finally into the starry night of outer space while she points determined toward the sky with her sword ready to fight with the fullness of her heart.
>Work in BBQ restaurant >Drunk guy walks in >He is loud and gives attitude >Serve him anyway to get him out of there >He fumbles and drops his hot dog and soda on the floor >He demands a refund >Get sad >Kneel down >Dip my finger in some of the hot dog's ketchup and smear it under my eyes >I remember the day shift manager's intro speech on the day I started >"I do not stand by in the presence of spilled food. It is a potential liability". >Drunk guy rages and throws up >Jump up on the counter to not get puke on my shoes >Drunk guy runs into the 7/11 next door >"COME INTO MY WORLD" >Security guard finally arrives on his bike >”Sorry, if he hasn’t comitted any felonies, theft or damage, I can’t detain him in the 7-11. They don’t contract with my company and Q4S would be vicariously liable if I did anything in there.” >An old-timey guests calmly walks out of your restaurant an into the 7-11 >After a couple of minutes he comes out with the drunk guy meekly in handcuffs >Turns the old-timey guest was an off-duty cop and was able to talk the drunk guy down >"I compete in the Great Hampshire Sausage and Pie Competition with my sausages every year, and I hate to see your world class hot dogs go to waste, user"
Jacob Sanchez
It really all comes down to the foreign market. Bumblebee made 332 million off overseas markets alone, and right now Alita is tracking just a little above that.
Fuck, you're right, left looks much better. Why do they do these things?
Ayden Cook
Ehh, a lower budget could be due to higher efficiency.
Cooper Lopez
Agreed, the only trailer that I like was the Battle Read one that released a few months before. The other trailers I can't stand to watch
Josiah Davis
SA blue when?
Lincoln Long
Going to the last IMAX showing in my city tonight and bringing my dad. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Angel Ramirez
This They already have the tech, experience, concepts, models, etc Two sequels can be created back to back at a fraction of the cost for Alita Battle Angel without a drop in quality
Jayden Ross
This is great user
Lucas Young
by experience great trailer=shit movie shit trailer=good movie
Chase Ortiz
James Cameron said in an interview in 2006 that if Alita was ever made and was successful he had plans to do 2 and 3 back to back, that's our best case scenario
Christopher Jenkins
Also they'll have to market it a lot less. Alita won't be a new weird thing by the time a sequel comes out.
John Martinez
Wait what? I always thought the new look was always the look it had. The left one looks a LOT more accurate to movie Alita. The hair is 10x better and the lips look more feminine, why did they change it?
Brandon Ramirez
What stood out to me was Jennifer Connelly's character stopping Alita and looking at her arms in a teaser trailer. And then the clip they released online of Alita dance-boxing in the moonlight. That gave me chills. Had to see this movie.
Hudson Evans
Cameron hasn't had a decent trailer since the teaser for T2
I'm surprised how many people I talk to have never even heard of this movie. Even gamer thots I know at work who watch anime occasionally have never heard of Alita.
Asher Martin
That's good to know. >2 deals with Alita's Motorball stint to cope her loss of Hugo as well as Zapan's rampage >3 deals with Barjack and the showdown with Nova in Granite Inn
If the trilogy sells real well, we might just see Alita go to space.
You know, that could actually gives us hope for a sequel.
Gavin King
The left one was a prototype they showed at some comic con. Who knows why they changed it. Could be that some idiot marketer took a look at it without seeing the movie and said "It looks weird, change it" without realizing that it was actually movie accurate already. I wonder how it was for the new artist >Make her movie accurate >But she already is, what am I supposed to do differently? >I don't care, just change the face! Wouldn't be surprised if that's how it went. I bet stuff like this happens because of corporate bullshit that's decided in some room that's just full of suits, who take one look at the designs and either give it an ok or want a redesign without really even knowing about the source material. I still kinda want to buy the statue though.
But doesn't the movie only get a fraction of the box office in China/abroad?
Easton Morris
Yeah but I'm used to thots and cosplay whores trying to use nerd shit to their advantage and it surprises me that Alita is too nerdy for them to even have heard of it.
You can make Titantic and Avatar, the two highest grossing films of all time, and then make Alita and have it go under the radar?
Jose Diaz
10 million? Really? Those fish eyes made anime
Parker Edwards
I prefer the hair change
Tyler Torres
I think their opening weekend was $3M. $10M is a high estimate for them.
Dylan Allen
I lost some of my respect for Cameron because of Avatar. But this movie renewed it. Anyone else feel the same way?
>I bet stuff like this happens because of corporate bullshit that's decided in some room that's just full of suits, who take one look at the designs and either give it an ok or want a redesign without really even knowing about the source material. Guaranteed that's exactly what happens.
Jaxson Wright
US is 50%, China is 25%. I don't know what non-China country's takes are.
Benjamin Morgan
I lost it because of Titantic. Didn't even see Avatar.
Now I think he's the most based human being alive. This guy literally claimed his waifu (he bought her IP, wrote her screenplay, and brought her and her world to life).
Lucas Gonzalez
DBZ?
David Roberts
>USA: $90M What the hell are you doing USA??
Juan Wright
Aquaman made almost $300 million in China, and also bigger weekend and bigger everything. This isn't making even half that.
Juan Rodriguez
That sucks. I probably wouldve bought it if it still looked like it did. The hair looks like plastic now and its not even the same length or shape as it was in the movie.
Aiden Collins
What was the point of the doctors assistant? She only had 3 lines and no character development.
Christopher Cooper
No, some live action movie that appeals to general audiences. Despite anime's popularity there versus the west, it isn't actually the supreme entertainment in japan.
Chase Ross
>tfw Shyamalan funds Glass out of pocket, it makes 241 million, critics shit on it but audiences love it >Jim finally gets his passion project out, critics shit on it but literally every single person who sees it falls head over heels with Alita I just KNOW this is going to be a good year for kino, lads. capeshit will be BTFO this time
Justin Brown
In both the manga and OVA it's an old white / asian dude, so it's another holywood blackwash In the manga, Ido is the assistant and the doctor does all of the operations
Parker Wood
I didn't care much about him, but after seeing this, he's legit.
Christian Richardson
Oh, it will definitely make at least half of what Aquaman made in China.
Brayden Barnes
Now I regret not watching glass
Mason Hernandez
This happened. I don't think I've ever seen a 80% drop other than Batman vs Superman.
So if I change that poster's estimates in China down to 25% and guesstimate foreign sales down to $100M, I get around $244M in total - about $40M more than the film's budget.
Joshua Martinez
If Ido was by himself, he'd come across as a lot creepier, which would have worked for the murderer subplot but not for anything else really.
Benjamin Carter
it's still in theaters dude. just went to see it a few days ago and there were plenty people in the joint
Gabriel Harris
I'm back. Why the fuck the critics don't give this movie the praises it legitimately deserves ? It may have flaws and it's ok to point them, but not noticing how it is fresh and new is beyond hypocrisy. Visually it's above everything made to this day by far, the level of details is just absurd, it's perfectly animated and they made a good use of that: there's no "15 plans/second" bullshit, it's fluid and pleasant to watch. You CANNOT write a paper about this and just say "it was OK", just buy a new pair of glasses please. And yeah ok I got you guys, Alita is shockingly lovable, it's hard to describe, she's fucking brutal in everything she does, be it enjoying life and falling in love or atomizing everything in her path. She's awesome. The character is well written and remarquably performed, and I can't recall a female lead in action movie who was THAT intense. The scene when Hugo (a shabby thug) dies in her arms and she (an unstoppable war machine) cries "I'd give him my life if I could!"... AAAAAAAA GIB ALITA GF NOW!! My main complain is that the movie was too short, not in the sense I wanted to watch more (and I fucking want), but the story was too much packed/compacted, many scenes deserved to take a moment to enrich plot and character development. Fuck that was a long post, sorry. Fuck critics, they almost made me miss a really good movie.
You actually like the sculpted hair instead of the fluffy one? B-but user, now you can't wash it and braid it etc.. If the sculpted stuff is your thing then I guess you're in luck that they changed it, but personally I prefer the old one.
Of course they might later on release other heads or some other company might do it. If not, I guess I just need to learn how to sculpt properly myself and bring my floofy haired waifus into reality.
Benjamin Taylor
dam son. Well I'm curious to see this weekend. Most people should be getting paid this Thursday or Friday, so maybe might be a bit of an uptick.
Evan Sanders
>In the manga, Ido is the assistant and the doctor does all of the operations no, he's just a cyberveterinarian and idos buddy and doesn't really do much work aside from being a surrogate uncle
Adrian Harris
That live-action movie is based on a manga from the 90s, IIRC.
It made 41 million yuan on Tuesday, or $6 million. Based on this and the Monday, you can expect a second weekend of somewhere around $21-22 million. Captain Marvel is out next weekend and Alita will lose lots of screens there. $125-130 million finish is likely.
Burgers... your movie theater licenses are now officially fucking revoked until you get some taste. People in these threads get to keep theirs though. You guys are alright and have to educate the rest of your country about what good taste is.
Is we assume the advertising is about the same as the production budget, the movie's total budget is $300M. If we assume the box office share is 50% flat for all territories (which it's not), and the movie makes $450M (again, a high estimate), the studio's share would be $225M against a $300M budget. Maybe the money could be made back from merch sales. Who knows.
Captain Marvel is out March 8 everywhere including China, which is next Friday.
Xavier Ramirez
>Why the fuck the critics don't give this movie the praises it legitimately deserves ? >critics >legit welp
>My main complain is that the movie was too short, not in the sense I wanted to watch more (and I fucking want), but the story was too much packed/compacted, many scenes deserved to take a moment to enrich plot and character development. Is an adaptation after all. Read the manga, you'll love it.
Jose Ramirez
No, they have regular size ocular orb sockets.
Elijah Bailey
I don't know why people are always so surprised by this. Japan is pretty insular. Gackt is one of the biggest motherfuckers over there, of course his movie is going to mog a foreign movie based on a comic book most of their general public don't remember.
Nathan Myers
If that doesn't happen, I take it back, but CHINA NUMBER ONE
Henry Diaz
>. The scene when Hugo (a shabby thug) dies in her arms and she (an unstoppable war machine) cries "I'd give him my life if I could!
finally someone acknowledges the final hugo scenes. They are so fucking emotional in an already emotional movie it's insane. when she says "what did you do" in that painful voice holy fuck my heart shattered. it was fucking amazing. hadn't had this many feels since br2049. i'm still tempted to go again tonight since come friday it will be gone from the movies around here.
Joseph Robinson
>Gackt That's what it was. I forgot the major pull of the movie.
Landon Peterson
no France get this shit early (dont know why) on March 6
Brayden Parker
Zapan does indeed have this marking on his forehead in the movie. I noticed it when his lackey asks, "are you going to kill her?" and he replies, "much worse". It's faint, but it's there.
Jayden Carter
Probably, yeah.
Mason Wood
>hitler has a marsbase pilled and redbased
Sebastian Ross
I highly doubt that the hounds were practical in any shot.
Wyatt Clark
Have you guys seen these anywhere?
Grayson Perry
I think in some countries movies open on a Wednesday.
James Cox
It's not a perfect movie, but a damn fun one.
Shoulda given a more weird, chaotic personality to Nova Also work more in the crappy, crammed scenario. The Scrapyard reminded me of Marrocco or something, which isnt bad but where is the desolation and hopeless vibes the original gave to us Also show more "budget friendly" full body cyborgs, like ones with rusty bolts replacing the eyes or something you know
Well they did a really good job putting this over the top story into a 2h movie, but it also came with its limitations
Sorry for bad english, working on it from brazil Spread the love boys
Brandon Lee
I fucking tear up every time she says "I'd give him my life if I could"
I try not to but those damn pricklies are there
Jaxson Richardson
why did cinemark replace all their normal seats with luxury loungers? has this happened anywhere else? absolute bollocks
Nolan Garcia
CHINA NUMBER ONE. Fuck I can't believe I said that. Xi better deliver.
Aiden Davis
the delivery is amazing. like that dude said, every scene with her is incredibly intense.
because they can charge more to the few people that still go to the movies.
Brayden Torres
>Alita loses theater space for Captain Foot Fungus >Captain Yaass Queen Slaaay flops harder then a deflated balloon >Alita lost space in the theaters for THAT It's just not fair, bros.
Nicholas Baker
Yeah, 300 million ain't happening, but if you get us another 150 million there, CHINA NUMBER ONE
Ryder Thomas
>the very first result that comes up is how the movie highlights hollywood's "whitewashing problem what a retarded subhuman, every character they bring up isn't even asian in the source material
Julian Hill
God, that's cute.
Julian Powell
yeah thats why and also maybe they feared to open the week after because we FINALLY get DBS Broly and everybody know what french people will go see
"ALITA IS CUTE!" is what it says next to the hearts. That's all I got because I suck at kanji....
Josiah Davis
>Also show more "budget friendly" full body cyborgs, like ones with rusty bolts replacing the eyes or something you know
a legitimate complaint was how the scrapyard seemed too happy in general. like when hugo talks about buyign parts he says there's a lot and cheap if you're not picky not like the scarcity you see in the manga.
Jackson Cox
Look closer next time. They are most definitely bigger then human eye sockets.
Levi Diaz
do you pronounce Xi > Chi or Kzi?
Logan Morales
Fug I finally did it. Took all the text from a chapter from the art book and put it into this pastebin. Really worth the read. I might do other ones some other time. pastebin.com/dpqHLbtx
m.youtube.com/watch?v=30jrmzzgHLc Literally me coming home from Alita It's very nice to see the purity of Alita's heart healing all the lonely and horny bros I don't feel lonely when I see this movie
Grayson Rogers
what was censored in bottom left?
Noah Gomez
With how popular Kizuna Ai is over in Japan, it's surprising how shit the draw at the box office is for this movie despite her shilling for it.
Daniel Sullivan
When they are first introduced, they look and move like animatronics. They're movement is a bit "jittery" like there was pneumatic tubes controlling their movement. Every scene after that they were CGI.
Mason Russell
she
Easton Jenkins
Also, under Ido it says "Ido is also cute"
Luke Ross
Go buy a ticket and watch the fucking movie.
James Barnes
i went by myself and was the only person watching it in an imax theater to be fair it was late screening really enjoyed it
Oliver Smith
Critics are not people.
Blake Nguyen
>Also show more "budget friendly" full body cyborgs, like ones with rusty bolts replacing the eyes or something you know those were the best ones like the barjack physician whose head was his face stapled to a hollowed out CRT monitor and who had rigged a button to his brain to instantly make him in a good mood even if being optimistic in that situation is fucking retarded
Liam Russell
Doggo blood was on the first body.
Landon Gray
Thank you based user
John Jenkins
Well that's just the nature of the Chinese box office. Unless a movie breaks out big time, it will make money for about 3 weeks and then it's over.
Angel Gomez
Any word on what del taco thinks of it? I know Kishiro loves it and has seen it 5 times but del taco also must be chuffed that he was the one who got jim into it in the first place
Levi Diaz
Movie wasn't crammed at all, I thought it was a slightly fast tempo meant to compliment the action, besides it's just an expanded OVA anyways. If you thought this movie was crammed, wait until the sequel when there's no OVA and Cameron decides to get past the Zapan arc.
Cameron Wilson
This Hugo looks like a Chad. His movie counterpart isn't even half the man he is.
Luke Rogers
>I know Kishiro loves it and has seen it 5 times does he have a cameo?
James Ortiz
>it will make money for about 3 weeks and then it's over Oh is that common? My theater is still showing Bumblebee and Mary Poppins.
Luke Nelson
There's a massive tone difference for sure, but I think they needed to make the scrapyard bright and a lot happier for it to line up with Alita's innocence and naivety as she's discovering the world for the first time. It wouldn't have been harmonious had it been a rusty hellpit. I mean I don't think the chocolate eating scene which was like pure innocence could have even existed in the movie had the city been dark and full of starving druggies on the street.
>last movie I've seen in a cinema was Avatar (not counting school trips) >now I went to see this It's poetic in a way. I feel like Cameron killed my interest in movies, and now he restored it
Juan King
Alright, I'll quit talking about the box office until more updates tomorrow, but as long as it hits over 410 million worldwide and then some, a sequel will more than likely get made, considering Fox themselves said the break even point was just 350 million. Pacific Rim got a sequel with 411 million at the box office against a 190 million budget.
Landon Cruz
>Jannies can't handle a little bit of banter To think, they do it for free, what a pathetic existence
I'm hoping if a sequel happens we'll have a little bit of a time gap and see iron city become more of a desolate shit hole, and I agree with the budget cyborgs, we almost had a hint of it with Hugo at the end but I'd like to see more.
Checked and yeah I think Iron City is shown the way it is because you're meant to be seeing it through her eyes. In fact I think one of the commentaries said as much? They wanted the audience to be introduced through the stories world and lore through Alita.
In China it is. Most movies make about 1.9x or 2x their opening weekend. Seeing how Alita isn't showing signs of break out and has competition unlike Bumblebee, it is very likely to finish around $120-130 million. It will still be in some theaters of course, but making negligible money.
Carson Turner
Also, here's the table of contents of the art book. If anyone wants a specific chapter just let me know.
We will just have to wait and see, but I'm projecting more.
Also, damn, even How To Train Your Dragon 3 had an awful Monday drop off. Is there just something going on with the box office in the US in general right now?
I mean, fuck, even Alita had a better Monday hold in it's first week than How To Train Your Dragon 3. Something screwy is going on with audiences in general. If February just a bad month or something?
Yeah. No one watches movies in theaters anymore, when they can sit on their fat asses at home sucking up bandwidth with Netflix and Youtube.
Samuel Garcia
>Also, damn, even How To Train Your Dragon 3 had an awful Monday drop off. Bruh, it's literally the middle of a school semester in the states. Of course there's going to be a huge drop off during the weekdays. The reason for the huge weekend numbers was also due to most parents having the same idea and taking the family on the weekend.
I'd expect similar numbers as Monday throughout the week
Hudson Edwards
It's so organised, I can't wait to get my copy in the mail
The US box office hasn't been good since the start of the year. I suspect moviepass dying has something to do with that.
Connor Edwards
Was anyone else really surprised at the level of violence in it? My jaw dropped when Zapan just fuckin bisected Tanji.
Andrew Gonzalez
What is this sorcery? I wonder if that actually works as an immersive experience or if you'll just end up missing 50% of the film as it's plastered on the walls.
Jaxon Richardson
I know what he was referring to, but it's interesting how big the Monday drop was for HTTYD3.
Jackson Stewart
Check "Zapan", so I can know if user is trying to fool me or I need to check my eyesight.
Adrian Perry
Fuck, if I still had MoviePass, I would've seen Alita literally every day. Why the fuck couldn't it have come out just a year ago?
Jeremiah Rivera
That was Presidents Day.
Alexander Davis
Some other user translated it awhile ago, it was something like: >look at her fresh and sparkly eyed and hunched over like a cat >look at her resting peacefully in bed with her doll >look at her stare in cold disgust at her enemies
Evan Stewart
Oh, true, good point.
Liam Lee
I really wasn't expecting Alita to get sliced up in the beginning, and spend several minutes crawling around on stubs in agony. The only other part that I wasn't ready for was when Zappan got his face sliced off. I thought he was just going to be punched or at worst stabbed with the sword.
Anthony Cruz
I liked how people just got killed left and right. That's what made the Alita/Motorball sequence so great.
Nathaniel Carter
Yeah they were able to do quite a lot for PG13, it was able to maintain the innocence but have a good amount of gore/action.
Colton Jones
>Alita is the best anime/manga live action >Detective Pikachu will be the best videogame live action
Are we entering the new era?
Anthony Wood
>Was anyone else really surprised at the level of violence in it? Everybody. You can't believe this shit is PG-13.
>I really wasn't expecting Alita to get sliced up in the beginning, and spend several minutes crawling around on stubs in agony. The only other part that I wasn't ready for was when Zappan got his face sliced off. I thought he was just going to be punched or at worst stabbed with the sword. Exactly. This film is the actual true meaning of the phrase of "subverting your expectations". At many moments you're expecting so many common tropes of moralizing or pulling punches because the main character is supposed to be "better than that", yet Alita does none of that shit.
I mean, she lets Zapan off with a warning the first time around after a brutal humiliation, but when he presented an actual tangible threat, she just fucking went right through him and took his face. She's a fucking tank.
Bentley Ross
this is what happens when suits are kept at a safe distance from movies
Tyler Wood
Anime Kino is upon us my friend
Ryan Williams
Man, nobody in the theater I was at expected Grishka to kill the dog. At first they laughed when he started barking, and then they stopped when he got killed.
Arita has healed me guys. I'm so happy and much more positive than before.
I just slipped my number to this girl who works at my local store. I've had a crush on her for a couple months and I've seen her a few times. We always smile at eachother.
I said fuck it today and just chatted with her for a bit and handed her a note with my name and number. I said hey I'm never gonna get a chance to talk to you so text me sometime!
And just as I was typing this she already texted me back. Feelsgoodbros wish me luck. I LOVE ALITA.
>In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends.
What the FUCK happened to the Mouse? It used to believe in something, they went from that to. sabotaging good films so they can make more shit whose purpose is to LITERALLY INSULT people and create racial tensions and guilt, and all for a dime.
I don't give a damn about Pokemon, give me a good Halo live action movie.
Ryan Nelson
lol Zapan looks like such a nice guy in that picture
Lucas Cruz
what album is this

I think we're worrying too much about the box office calculations. Based on predictions it'll make it's money back and maybe profit just a little. Let's just enjoy Alita right now.
I'm assuming that these people were used to capeshit tropes, and were expecting something to that end.
Jordan Rogers
It is a strange movie. Usually when I watch movie or tv show I ask myself "will I like to spend a day in this movie universe" It is very rare to like a movie and the answer to the question to be no. I would not like to spend a day in the dumpster that was the city of the movie. It is dirty, dusty, and full of cyborg the size of a truck that can stomp you. But I will like to spend a day in it if I can hang out with Alita.
Robert Gonzalez
>I think Iron City is shown the way it is because you're meant to be seeing it through her eyes. That's a good way to explain it, doesn't make me happy about it though.
Jack Stewart
> Was anyone else really surprised at the level of violence in it? My jaw dropped when Zapan just fuckin bisected Tanji. You are just too used to contemporary PG-13 movies marked by Disney. They are made so parents can take their 10 year olds and not be too traumatized
Brandon Morgan
>spends most of the post gushing about the visuals >only a tiny afterthought to the crippling writing/pacing issues
So to answer your question, for critics, the focus is inverted. Visuals don't impress anyone (but retards) anymore, as its all just CGI, CGI, more CGI, and real sets made to look like CGI.
and alita, the character, looked like shit if you're not a mexican.
Kevin Foster
I believe in you user. Take care and trust in the positivity and wonder that Alita has given you.
Ed skrein is such a smug prick in literally every role
Leo Lee
Very cute. Could someone translate the sound effects please?
Tyler Collins
/fit/ is fucking cancer. It creates way more incels than bros.
Anthony Murphy

Luke Thompson

David Allen
>Visuals don't impress anyone (but retards) anymore Retards with bad eyesight and no sense of observation maybe, but it's not my case unfortunately and I really can't enjoy mediocre visuals. Thank god Alita was not in that range for once.
>its all just CGI, CGI, more CGI No it's GOOD cgi, I mean when people actually work and give a shit about it.
Aiden Perez
Pure strikes that are matched only by the Undertaker.
Carson Jones
Thanks, user
Brandon Roberts
If you ignore the >manlet threads then you're in a better place than most /fit/ users i think.
No they won't. Cameron may let them have his creation (avatar), but he won't let them have his baby.
Christopher Russell
Sadly America is still too white. If it were released in 2040 when Mexicans are the minority we would have hope.
Isaiah Evans
She'll still be Cameron's.
Jace Carter
>The Mouse will have her in 2 weeks. The rat will have nothing, Cameron owns her with a tight contract.
Evan Cooper
How much of a hand did Cameron even have in this other than the initial pitch? Didn't Rodriguez direct this?
Jason Jones
I might actually do just that, I need to get out of the house I'm going stir crazy. Is this a good IMAX 3D movie? I haven't seen a movie in IMAX 3D since the Hobbit.
Isaiah Edwards
Wrote it, produced it, pretty much everything else except directing it. Of course credit due to all the other phenomenal people who did the grunt work.
Wyatt Edwards
>Thinking a man will let go of his longtime waifu. Oh you of little faith. Besides you can't dump Alita once you waifu her. It's for life with her or she'll kill you. Boatman knows this.
