Only the first 3 movies are good

>only the first 3 movies are good
>the rest suck balls

Why is that?

I liked 4

John Williams left and all the books after 4 were shit

Everything directed by David Yates was absolute trash.

ur a wizboy, harold

books 4-7 are too long to adapted properly, even Deathly Hallows being spread out to two movies did not have enough time to let the story unfold naturally. The primary appeal of Harry Potter is the comfy magic school slice-of-life stuff, that makes you want to live in that world. The later movies cut most of that out to make more room for the main plot and action. Goblet of Fire was the worst offender, the film is like a one paragraph summary of the novel

If the first Deathly Hallows cut out the 30 minutes where they argue in the woods, get lost, sleep and slow dance in a tent, they would have had more time for the plot.

A better question would be what is the best part of the Harry Potter series, because it would be significantly harder to pin point anything worth mentioning out of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

I liked the Half-Blood Prince but you are right. Yates is trash.

Prisoner of Azkaban is the best one though. Emma Watson at her peak

I love this pasta.

Everything got so fucking dark. But in a badly written way.

4 was still acceptable but the first 3 were the best.

Because starting with Book 4, the books starting to become 600+ pages long, so they couldn't adapt all that into a movie, unfortunately. You end up missing out on a bunch of important and interesting plot points. Also, the directors changed. Yates was fucking awful. John Williams left as well. Plus they used this fucking awful color grading in the later films. The pacing just becomes shit starting with 4. The comfy, fun feeling was basically completely removed. I remember even back when I was 12-years-old watching the 4th movie thinking "what the hell is going on? this feels weird," but I didn't know why. Harry Potter would do much better as an episodic series, I think.

They threw out the comfiness and magic and kept the poorly-written teen drama from the books

6th movie was superior to the book, even if/because it barely resembled the book it was based on.

6th movie was fucking awful, though. Probably the most forgettable one. I saw that movie like 4 times in my life and I can't even remember that much of it.

This. Look how ugly the colors are. Christ. They might as well make all the movies after the 4th fucking black and white.

It isn't why do you keep spamming this shit
Legit this is the only great franchise that exists past 3 or 4 films. All of them are good.
Reminder Yates is a pleb filter for this psuedo pleb board

Holy christ you retards never attempt to think you are being objective again, the movie looks great in 3840x2160p

nice 600x600 picture that's split it two

Bullshit. Longer and more detailed books have been adapted into good movies. The movies just waste a lot of time with Harry running around bitching about how he can't understand whats happening.

Yea Forums really needs to stop being contrarian
after potter was over blockbusters took a nosedive in quality they were the last good ones at all
this is the truth

>Longer and more detailed books have been adapted into good movies.
I'm not talking about other books, I'm talking about Harry Potter

Same. 4th was great, and had the most interesting and compelling scenes in the entire series - when Voldemort comes back and the series elevates itself by realizing the evil and monstrous nature of black magic. And when Diggory dies and Harry and Cedric's father react to it. Really brought stakes into HP and it was very well done and felt dark, terrifying and important.

Then David Yates took over and HP became SEX DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL and magic became bullet gun fights that felt like gears of war with people jumping behind cover and main characters who just wore jeans and jackets instead of robes and shit

The latter books fit the screen better because they were able to be more slow and focus on harry
the fourth book and movie is just filled with action and things, books 5 and 6 for the most part are slow books with not a lot happening in them

the movies 5-7 are better than books 5-7 desu

HBP is certified kino, lad.

You are the reason cinema is dead
Yates is a good director and directed the hell out of his scripts which were not that great but he made two of them into kino

>You are the reason cinema is dead

This

Look everyone the spamming harry potter hating retard is in the thread again

And I'm telling you the books being too long and detailed is a poor excuse for why the movies turned out mediocre, as other people have done fine with more complicated source material.

The Harry Potter books are not excessively detailed dictionaries about the world and characters. The script writers were just lazy.

fucking yikes

What are you smoking the script writer is the same damn dude that did 1-4 he did 6 7 and 8. The scripting was good because it focused on harry and the trio like it should have since they couldn't be 4 or 5 hour movies
Nothing about the series is mediocre every single element is good and extremely good compared to the shit being produced today for even more money

I liked 5

Yikes that the poster has posted that 50 times every single time he gets triggered in a potter thread? Yeah yikes indeed coming from a captin marvel board.

>just increase the resolution, guys! it fixes everything!
Isn't going to fix the shit colors, lackluster set design, and the lame wardrobe. You're like those people that claim a video game gets good after 7 hours.

The colors are great and you would

Our FUCKING guy

know that if you actually had a 4k hdr copy and a television that could play it*
Oh wait im talking to an uber pleb who thinks the set design was even bad when its the same fucking sets relit to look differently
you dont even know anything about filmmaking and what they did with the potter movies
ie they lit everything different each time

>You are the reason cinema is dead

Just keep posting your small pictures and soundless webms kid and thinking your redpilled. God forbid the latter movies don't look anything like the first couple movies.

>he says on a board with 1000 captain marvel threads a day
lol

the digital grader of hp 3-8
is the same guy who did lotr 1-3 and the matrix
pro tip: they all look great because he knows his shit

Wasn't even me who posted that. I don't even need the image to judge them. I've watched the HP films many times, and the latter films are still disappointing. No idea why people call some of them kino. What about them is kino? The wooden characters? The awful pacing? The nonsensical way they adapted the books?

The latter movies don't have to look like the first movies. They just have to not look like a dull mess when they're set in the universe of Harry Potter. Doesn't fit the theme of HP at all.

Because the movies tried to appeal to an older audience while being stuck in a universe with dumb unbalanced magic and magical items.
You could ask yourself "Why wouldn't they just use *overpowered magical stuff from previous episode* instead?" and frankly there is none. The universe and its laws are extremely underdeveloped and only feel fitting in a children's story.
Also the fact that you know the ultimate outcome with the movies being essentially padding doesn't really help engage you in the story.

>dull mess
You're the fucking dull mess already, holy shit
Everything about them is good, what kind of shit blockbusters do you like man? They are the only good series
5 and 6 and 7 couldn't have been made more cinematically with the scripts the director was given

Because they were fun adventure flicks with some unique and sometimes creepy visuals. After that it became GRIM and SERIOUS.
4 sucked. One of the better books but the movie was a sign of shit to come.

>first two movies were carried by john williams' score
>third movie was carried by cuaron

after that they had enough momentum to ride it out to the end

only the first three books were remotely fun afte that is it grimdark
there's a huge tone change in 5. 5 and 6 were grimdark
based retard

i also used to like 4 the least but it doesnt suck at all its good

meant for

The fourth BOOK is fun and adventurous, the movie is creepy and weird. It's shot like a fucking fever dream.
Learn capitalization and punctuation before calling someone a retard by the way.

i came here looking for this pasta because i recently found a PDF of the first book. when i did a CTRL + F on "stretched his legs" i realized that there's only 1 instance of this in the entire book. i liked this pasta and that really ruined it for me

and no i'm not a harry potter fag at all. try it out yourselves

Attached: 1481616745249.jpg (1533x961, 174K)

the world wasn't as imaginative as narnia or lotr

the fourth movie is on cocaine but it works
literally has better moments than both combined mr walking and massing of armies
>narnia
Kek

The cast stopped being hot

Forgot to add
>It's shot like a fucking fever dream.
Like harry was having dreams about voldemort throughout the entire movie, it's actually great even though it missed details from the book, it's in line with the third films tone with the fourth films setting desu

Hermione was hot in all of them and Harry probably peaked in 5, when he did equus

Bellatrix only got hotter in fairness

i havent watched the narnia movies but i imagine it has to be awesome, The way everything is described in the book is amazing.

Also lotr movies were 100% a better franchise than hp

>i have to compared everbbinngg to lotr
>lotr so much better
half the potter movies are better than ttt and return of the king which are poorly edited and made movies for the most part but TTT is pretty decent. fellowship is the only pure kino one of the three and ive seen them as much as anyone.
the lotr movies get worse
the hp movies have kinos as the sequels multiple times

true. idk why but ginny can get it in the sixth one desu...but not the others

As others have said, HP is best when its full of magical slice of life whimsical wonder.
So what does the 4th movie do the first oportunity they get? Yeah lets remove the quidditch cup no one liked that part anyways we need more shots of harry brooding because hes too stupid to ask about things

I stopped caring after Sirius died. My favorite character. First 3 were great, though. Should've just made a TV show.

they removed the quidditch because it would have made the movies to samesy you retard
1 2 and 3 all had quidditch scenes and the first task harry is on his broom
works fine

>tv show
no lol it would have worse writing, production, music, dps, directors, casting everything

all are great besides 4 and 8 but 4 is pretty good

I don't remember anything from 5 to 8, they were just so bland and forgettable.
1 and 2 were childish as fuck, yet comfy and magical. 3 was perfect and 4 had the tournament and the quidditch.

He likes making them
his potter ones are great
fb is okay his directing is good, scripts are less so

5 is umbridge you even read the books adhd user?

>no anthem
>no animal farm
Failure

I've read the first 3 or 4 books, but that was like 15 years ago.

He's a studio yes man

Narnia books are unironically based, they were partially written to introduce kids to the Bible

Not really, his directing in OOTP and HBP is pretty fantastic
