had great potential but was repetitive. and maybe I'm dumb to expect great things from a show for kids but at the same time AT was getting better and better, especially once Rebecca Sugar left.

RS could have fleshed out its characters and world better, but instead they just fought monsters all the time. meanwhile ATfags were complaining that AT didn't have enough adventuring and was too "serious" and was shifting focus to all the other characters in their world (they were wrong and dumb)

it was a nice clerks-lite for kids for awhile. like a lot of cartoons these days it got too hung up on interpersonal shit. the writers had no fucking clue how to handle any of those relationships they kept forcing and it's the ultimate kick in the dick that Mordecai ends up with a one-off new character anyway.
it's an excellent example of a show outliving its own premise, and of writers trying to pull a show in wildly different directions and constantly course-correcting eachothers work.
unfortunately nobody ever seems to think about consistency in a show. RS doesn't stand up now that it's over, it's a fucking mess that would need substantially trimmed down and edited to actually be worth watching from the start without ending in confusion and disappointment.
and if your answer to all of this is that a kids show should just be fun and fuck all that other stuff then I agree completely and they should've just dropped the drama garbage completely and tried coming up with some better adventures.

Like the first season or two. It ended up going to shit before long though. But that said, the first season or two were legit kino.
