James Camerom got the rights to adapt Dragon Ball Z and needs your help to do it

Wich director does Yea Forums recommend to him?

Zack Snyder

This, but unironically

fpbp

This, but he's not allowed to do any writing.

The DC movies are just field tests to see if dbz battles would work in live action.

YOu know zack might not fit Superman but he might have a chance with Goku

Agreed

David Lynch

not a fucking chance. Goku is a whimsical and carefree and he just wants to better himself

Zack is overindulgent, pretentious, and self-serious to a fault

FPBP
Don't go balls deep with Frieza, only cover the King Piccolo ark.

Shot for shot remake of man of steel but reskin superman with goku and the kryptonians with the saiyan invaders

Will never happen DBZ has been written by a fucking retard who copy pasted the plot of Terminator and didn't understand it. The Cell arc is a complete clusterfuck time travel wise. James Cameron wouldn't touch this trash even with a stick.

Michael Bay

>The Cell arc is a complete clusterfuck time travel wise
>MUH TIME TRAVEL ISN'T REALISTIC SO IT SUCKS!!!!

Oh fuck off autist. Terminator 1 and 2 are completely contradictory with their time travel anyway, but they're still great movies because they're not scientific publications on theoretical time travel physics you retard

/thread

I've read Dragonball over 15 times. The time travel obeys its rules.

It can't be made.

Whoever was responsible for Into the Badlands. I also tell them to adapt the origin of Trunks because it would translate to screen pretty well.

Dragonball don't deserve Snyder. Only Berserk, Akira, Blame, some arks of Gantz, something of that caliber. Not super sayans shit.

Are you kidding me? Didn't you saw the fights in Man of Steel, it was basically DBZ

there are some problem with Trunk's timeline, especially in DBS

>Are you kidding me?

Attached: 1472129153012.png (544x700, 506K)

You mean Superman

>trying to be elitist when you watch children cartoons

cringe

The Russo Brothers

Yeah they're actually fans too.

>I don't understand why DB Evolution failed

If they could somehow get Peter Jackson to direct it but let Zack Snyder handle all the action/fights that might work.

Except with 100% more shaky cam, blurred images, shadows and darkness and totally not seeing shit

Unironically he would be the best man for the job. Just keep him away from the script and you have sure kino.

there isn't enough ink in the world to list all the reasons why DB Evolution was so shit

You may be right, but at the very top of the is having an overly dark tone that in no way properly represented Dragon Ball or it's themes.

yeah a marvel-like (avengers infinity war etc.) DB movie would be worth a shot
They respected the spirit of the comics and had awesome visuals, I mean DB is very different but if the quality is equivalent, would be nice to try

Raimi

as shown by this thread lots of dipshits think Dragon Ball is grim and super duper serious

>Dragonball doesn't have dark moments
Snyder would unironically handle Freiza killing Krillin in the perfect way.

>giving raimi a series where monkey people get stronger when they become arian blondes with blue eyes
common now man

No director alive could properly adapt Dragon Ball into movies.
But if they did they'd have to go
1 movie for Bardock
1 movie for Pilaf
1 movie for the tournament with a B plot of Red Ribbon trying to get the Balls (foreshadow Cell)
1 movie to close Red Ribbon
2 movies for Piccolo (Demon King and Jr.)
1 movie for Saiyans
2 movies for Freeza
2 movies for Cell
2 movies for Buu
And even then it'd feel rushed

Best Dragonball movie was Dragonball the magic begins

Attached: banner_332.jpg (600x200, 51K)

lunch
yancha
bulma
kame
kuririn
goku
????

Even at it's absolute darkest Dragon Ball is still bright and colorful. Even if Snyder could direct the scene well, it would never look like Dragon Ball or even come close to reaching the shows tone or style.

Just look at Namek, the planet where that scene takes place. You REALLY think Zach Snyder would be the right man for the job to adapt pic related?

Attached: 677271.png (1920x1080, 1.74M)

A series about space warriors and aliens and nobody mentions James Gunn

Goku Blanco

Oh, so you think that "tone" actually means "colour palette"? Weird.

>5 whole movies before Z stuff
It's like you want it to fail. We would have to be greatful if we even got a single movie in that era. Audiences just don't have the patience to wait 5 whole movies (a little over half a decade assuming we get a bit less than a movie a year)

Colors don't set tone now?

>GONNA YANK THAT NIGGER-TAIL RIGHT OFF YOUR ASS, MONKEY BOY

color palette absolutely establishes tone you fucking autist

you think looking washed out and grim doesn't establish the mood for Snyder capeshit?

Future Trunks, he has a sword and looks flashy

Would never happen because Cameron has good taste. Dragonball is for small children and autists who like to hear screaming for 10 minutes of an 18 minute cartoon.

You don't think color palate effects tone?

I want it to be good. That's why it can't be done.

>Audiences just don't have the patience to wait 5 whole movies

Avengers proves you wrong

Phase 1:
Emperor Pilaf and Demon King Piccolo
The Saiyans
Namek and Frieza

Phase 2:
Androids Part 1
The History of Trunks
Androids Part 2/ Cell Part 1
Cell Part 2

Phase 3:
Broly
Majin Buu Part 1
Majin Buu Part 2
Omega Shenron and the Shadow Dragons

Attached: 1532263468252.png (2782x1565, 2.58M)

I am actually laughing at you retards thinking that colour palette and tone are synonyms. That is genuinely amazing.

Look at all this bright blue in this scene. And that popping yellow contrasted against the beautiful blue backdrop. It must be the happiest scene in the movie!

Attached: LittleMissSunshine_Dwayne_screaming[1].jpg (671x281, 44K)

>phase one goes from Pilaf to Freeza
>phase two only covers Cell
Nigga come on

Avengers works because Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, and Thor are all recognizable to marvel fans and casual audiences. Classic Dragon Ball barely is represented by core DB fans let alone casual audience goers.

Imagine being a big DBZ fan as a kid so you go with your casual brother who doesn't know a ton about dragon Ball but enough to enjoy a potential adaptation.
You get to the theater and you get a Pilaf adaptation.
This might be fine the first time as long as it's clearly leading right into the stuff you are interested in (especially if you include recognizable characters like Demon Piccolo) but there is no way these same people would go to FOUR more movies like that before they finally reach the stuff Dragon Ball (to them at least) is known for.

How would they make a good kid Goku in live action

>is represented by core DB fans let alone casual audience goers.
THE ENTIRE WORLD NOT FUCKING AMERICA

YOU FUCKERS DISLIKE DB BECAUSE YOU IDIOTS AIRED Z FIRST

The entire rest of the world watched the series in order. so they like DB just as much as Z, if not more in some cases like brazil

>cartoon
That’s how we know you are a ignorant nigger

if dubs, cast Brie Larson as Bulma

Brazil definitely likes Z more what the porra are you talking about

Idris Elba as Goku and John Boyega as Krillin

That's kinda the way its layed out in the show though.

Frieza is the climax of everything buit up from Piccolo until that point.
>Piccolo and Goku are bitter rivals in the first arc
>They have to put aside their differences to defeat the Saiyans in the second
>They then have to defeat the Saiyans final boss in the third
Then Trunks comes out of almost nowhere with literally zero relation to the content before it and starts the Android Saga which leads into cell. To me, that is what makes it feel like it's own "phase" which then ends after Perfect Cell is killed and we get the years of peace before Buu is introduced

Unapologetic sincerity is a rare virtue in modern filmmakers. Far too many nod and wink to the audience in their work, and come across as insecure as a result.

based retard poster

Okay but we can't count on Brazil to pick up the slack for poor numbers in America.

>The Cell arc is a complete clusterfuck time travel wise.

It's genuinely not, op.

It's also a brilliant case study in narrative escalation (until the break before the cell games).

more like phase 1 ends in Demon King and phase 2 starts with Piccolo

Bitch you want a Broly and GT movies get out

Look at these amateurs.
Only absolute hacks would use colors to set the tone, since they can't convey the tone with anything else.
Go shit blue filters on reddit.

You would need 4 fucking movies to get through Dragon Ball properly. Then 1 movie for the Saiyan Arc. A 3 hour movie for the Freeza shit. 2 movies for the Androids/Cell bullshit and then 2 movies for Buu. I mean it worked out for Marvel so you never know...

Yeah I could agree with that, but like the other user said you really can't spent too much time pre-saiyans

japan would make it up for that

We can and should
Let's have 20 DB movies and the DBZ movie is just youtube.com/watch?v=4Ojd5cNDekc

Well the Broly movie we just got absolutely crushed the box office so I don't really see why that's a problem

And Omega Shenron is objectively the best way to send off the franchise. It brings everything full circle back to the dragon balls and ends very satisfyingly

>You can't have an upbeat tone with a dark colour palette
I cannot imagine being this functionally braindead.

>Only absolute hacks would use colors to set the tone
That's exactly what Snyder does, tough.

It would be cool to show audiences how different both DB and DBZ is. I personally think they're both very cool but admittedly I am a mangafag

>you really can't spent too much time pre-saiyans
The more they can get people invested in Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Piccolo and so on the better a movie the Saiyan Arc will make. So no they can't spend too much time but they have to do it and make sure it sticks.

The whole Androids/Cell arc can easily be done in two hours if you skip the time chamber interludes and cut the whole tournament conceit, going straight from absorbing 18 to Gohan unleashing himself and Vegata avenging his dead son.

Bitch if you think Snyder can handle a DBZ movie with "an upbeat tone with a dark colour palette" you're the most braindead guy here

Saiyans really only make sense as blacks.

They turn into giant monkeys which is too on the nose for the big screen

>literally making things up now to attack
Ah yes, it was only a matter of time before you resorted to strawmen.

Did I stutter?

just have gohan transforming when trunks died to paralel to trunks transforming when gohan died in the future

its like poetry

James Wan could to a better job
In action scenes and casting

youtube.com/watch?v=7JZPYDt6tBw

And the Saiyans need to be asians

>sayians need to be asian
they are monkey people user

>Saiyans need to be asians

But then what will the actual asian characters be? They can't all look the same.

Any behind the scenes with this fight scene?

They're not calling them synonyms you idiot and that blue is not bright and that yellow is not popping

>The whole Androids/Cell arc can easily be done in two hours
Trunks initial warning/introduction
Training
19/20 attacking city
Goku vs 19 and heart attack
Vegeta vs 19
Hunting for 20
Androids 16/17/18 released
Vegeta vs 18
Piccolo and Kami's shit
Cell introduction
Room of Spirit and Time for Trunks/Vegeta
Cell hunting for Androids/17 vs Piccolo
Vegeta vs Cell
Trunks vs Cell
Goku and Gohan training
Goku vs Cell
Gohan vs Cell
Wrap up Trunks story

That's a lot to cover in 2 hours desu

>They're not calling them synonyms
>that blue is not bright
Oh no, it's retarded.

I doubt Cameron likes the franchise, not really his style.
If Hollywood absolutely had to adapt DB, they should:
- be as faithful to the source material as possible
- put the characters in better thought-out scenarios
- focus more on world building and characterizations, as well as the fights

If it were up to me I would start with the Pilaf arc, a low budget comedy-action flick mostly setting up the world. Low budget is not a problem since you early DB isn't really that elaborate design wise.
2nd movie would be RRA probably.
3rd would be King piccolo
4th (more like a spinoff) would cover piccolo Jr, and that ends the DB movies.
A DBZ trilogy up to Frieza would be nice, and since it's one of the best parts of DBZ as far as plot progression goes they wouldn't have to make lots of changes.
I would then do 2 or 3 movies on the androids, history of trunks and cell. Obviously changing things because the arc is a clusterfuck.
Adapt nothing afterwards because nothing after Cell is good.
Overall you could adapt everything up to cell in 6-9 movies I believe.

Attached: 1538100825084.jpg (1241x1394, 186K)

Saiyans are aliens, actual asians exists in the DB world so making them look alike would be incredibly distracting. Saiyans should be played by whites or even spics or mediterranean folk.

Vegeta and Goku can't look like this
Remember the whitewashing of Ghost in the Shell

Attached: 4006254-goku+live+action.jpg (606x341, 52K)

If Marvel had bought the rights we would have a Freeza with a shit makeup

That would also suck dick because you'd cut out Goku's plan to use Gohan's rage which makes it pay off

Hey I have an idea why don't we just not do any of this and have no more live action DB movies

A lot of that can go by very quickly in a film compared to a padded to hell anime series. The more pointless fights can be cut, or merged.

The only important stories are Goku & Gohan's heir to the throne thing, Vegeta's parallel story where he can't accept his progeny, and Krillin's quest for a sexbot. All of it (together with the broader "dark timeline" story) combining as a nature vs. nurture debate.

Everything else is window dressing, and would be cut.

>snyderfags want this

Attached: live_action_frieza_poster_by_andimoo_d5p6l2q-fullview.jpg (900x637, 66K)

DB is far better than DBZ.

Saiyans don't look like white dudes user, look their hair

You can introduce that during their first training period before the androids arrive (which is glossed over very quickly and meaninglessly in the show).

this

Hell NO!!

Snyder can not even understand the concept of Batman's fight, which only kicks and punches without any fight technique
Calls him hack and he deserves the title

Marvel and its cinematic universe is an abomination though, the last thing I would want is a creatively bankrupt superhero knockoff flick masquerading as dragonball.
Not that DB is deep or anything, but I really wouldn't trust Disney to pull it off.

>Phase 1:
>Emperor Pilaf and Demon King Piccolo
>The Saiyans
>Namek and Frieza

Could be a trilogy

Attached: cI8KuipH_o.jpg (576x432, 40K)

Marvel Studios has proven themselves as loyal to the franchises they work on while also knowing how to adjust the story to better fit the format without messing with the tone.

Its honestly the one studio I would trust the studio with imediately

>this is the adaptation snyderfags unironically want

fpbp

Nah, too crammed.

Let's take Alita for example, a successful (as far as audience and critic reception goes) anime adaptation.

The first movie basically adapted just 2 volumes of the manga and people still complained that it was crammed.

DB alone has 16 volumes.
If you want a faithful adaptation of the source material, something that says the entire story and has merit as a movie franchise, you need several movies just for DB. 3-4 would be optimal in my opinion, even 2 wouldn't be enough.

Came here to post this, unirionically of course.

freaky alien genotype

I could live with this honestly.

yeah but we realy need 3 martial arts tournament and goku lost in the ice?

have goku looking for dragon balls, ending with the first tournament possible tao pai pai
goku vs red ribbon ending with first picolo
then goku vs tien ending in second picolo

zero chance that would ever make any money at all, you pretty much need vegeta and the gang in the first movie already or the fans won't give a shit, and people who don't know DB won't give a shit about two children carrying milk jugs around for some old weirdo

James Cameron himself would hire Snyder. Just keep him away from the writing works and we've got a true kino

i actualy tought the first one was piccolo from dragon ball evolution

James Cameron

This is racist

Attached: Angry-Piccolo-dragon-ball-z-18574143-200-148.jpg (200x148, 8K)

Obviously you couldn't adapt the martial arts tournaments entirely, they don't fit the movie format.
Even without them though, you still have like 8-9 volumes to adapt.
Can't think of a script that covers all the events in less than 3 movies, as I said.

DB is as popular as DBZ worldwide, not to mention that you can't make the movie work on just fan money. You need to draw new people.
And just like with every story, you need to start with the beginning.

Not adapting DB and starting with Z is a fucking retarded statement. It's like saying you should start the LotR trilogy with the two towers and skip the fellowship.

I'm not talking about changing skimpy female costumes user

are cameroonfags all like this?

tell me that blue thing is not real

There should be at least 2 Dragon Ball movies until they move into Z

Bulma and Vegeta would be black. Guaranteed.

just make a live action version of the path of power movie
youtube.com/watch?v=5SzJwEWxkSA

Didn't this just basically cut out pilaf in exchange for the RR army? That could work. You could also just merge Kami/Piccolo into one character.

you think if they would adapt this into a movie, they wouldn't leave anything out so it would be less bloated? first, you don't need a long fight scene for every individual character against Cell

I don't think they'd try to put all that into a single movie but I also can't think of what they could cut out/merge to make it all flow properly.

I say co directed by Ang Lee and Edgar Wright.
Wait, is Ang Lee Chinese? Fuck it, just get the director from the anime, or any good anime film director, since he'll know what he's doing.
I also chose Edgar cause the nigga knows his martial arts/kinetic filmmaking

Was going to say this.

also pedophilia
it's literally a match made in heaven

Never even considered James Gunn. That's really not a bad choice

>DB is as popular as DBZ worldwide
lmao

Should they just use CG for the Super Saiyan hair? Have it glowing and flickering like flames a bit?

most people just call it dragon ball and not dragon ball Z
the world see's it as one franchise

Unironically, Stephen Chow

I just can't wait for the Dragon Ball Cinematic Universe.

Sounds like it's just a bad idea in general, Db and DBZ are perfect, why cram them into movies

I would rather see them take the budget and use it to make more animated movies.

yeah, most people call DBZ just DB. Nobody absolutely nobody gives a flying fuck about kid goku

dude... DB is way better than DBZ... (just saying)

Or just remaster the series' best moments /fights with better, more detailed and intense fight scenes

>Better animation/filler removed/art style even closer to the manga.

Yeah I'll take that over some fuckin live action bullshit any day. Fuck anyone that needs shit watered down and crammed into a live-action shit fest just to give it a chance.

You're right, and let's not ignore the possibility of them being DB evolution tier.

I disagree. There is literally no one with talent working in DB nowadays. The directing, fight scenes, music are all shit.

user, right now in Hollywood, no one can top Snyder when it comes to taking action sequences especially fight scenes. See 300. If slo-mo is not your thing, then see Man of Steel. The fight between Supes and Zod was literally the peak of fight scenes until Zack himself topped it in BVS. Sure Wan did a pretty good job. But that warehouse scene and Knightmare scene is better than Wan's whole action career. And it's not even close.

youtube.com/watch?v=CFINnkBvC2M?t=147
Watch from 2: 28 .It's like he mixed Dragon Ball with superman. Pure action kino.

maybe if you let him focus on actions scenes and ONLY action scenes
even though I still really don't like his action scenes

youtu.be/Izt3r9a97mY

Movie 1: Boyhood and Red Ribbon Army arcs
Movie 2: Piccolo Daimao arcs and Tenkaichi Budokai
Movie 3: Saiyan arc
Movie 4: Namek to the Death of Captain Ginyu
Movie 5: Freeza and start of the Cell arc
Movie 6: Cell arc
Movie 7: Majin Boo arc

This makes the most sense.

>DB alone has 16 volumes.

42 volumes.

That was kinda neat.

DB has 16 and DBZ has 26. You get what I mean

Guillermo Del Taco or Michael Bay.

>dat retarded date format

holy shit
thats cool

t. burger

I don't think so. In fact I think he should actually be given full control in every department except writing. And no studio interference of course. With a good story, he can definitely make great movie.
And as for you not liking his action scenes, I can totally understand that. He shoots to make it feel like the viewer is actually the guy fighting and stuff. Shaky and blurry. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Some prefers to see it from a third man's perspective. Like someone standing near the scene watching it without any disturbance. Like Nolan did on TDKR on the Batman vs Bane fight scene underground. I like them both but would take shaky and blurry over steady, any day.

>Frieza and the start of cell
The transition between those arcs are way too jarring to fit into one movie

It's all one manga. Only the American release differentiates

Sorry for being slow about it. Had to think about it for a while. I haven't read DBS but I'll concede I'm not any longer sure about the explanasions given in the manga making sense. I did however a long time ago sit down and make up time travel axiomes that satisfied the possibility of the formation of the timelines presented. I'll make a point out of studying that on my next readthrough. Here's a sketch but it's probably wrong somewhere. I think cell must lie at some point to make it work but you might also be right altogether.

Attached: rrr.png (1800x1364, 50K)

The writing thing is basically what I meant. As long as he isn't allowed to metaphor his way throughout the movie and try to insert what he thinks is deep he's pretty good with action scenes. He is pretty terrible directing actors though. Like he can't get them to give him their best and they look like they're just phoning it in. His movie's pacing is also all over the place and scenes just go one after the other without much thought put into it.

who the fuck even cares about corny ass DBZ. dragon ball is way more kino and likeable. DBZ is just kung-fu and lazer beam BS.

A young asian actor who can pull off the "fit 12-year-old" look and teach him some movie-fu.
Don't try to imitate the iconic hairstyle. Just give him long, untamed hair.

You retard that's irrelevant to his point when he's talking about the story before the Saiyans arrive. What do you want him to call that?

>Berserk

Only one of those you mentioned isn't overrated

Samefag

Not really, as three acts I could see it like this

Act 1 would cover chapters 291 to 305 (Freeza nearly kills Nail, Piccolo is revived, fuses with Nail, Freeza transforms 2 times, etc)
Act 2 would cover 292 to 308 or further I guess, Freeza transforms into his final form, Vegeta dies, Goku VS Freeza
Act 3, Goku becomes Super Saiyan, defeats Freeza, Trunks kills Freeza, explains what's going to happen in the future

I'm going by the manga so I'm not thinking about anime filler that stretched out the later chapters, the movie ending with Freeza and King Kold being killed by Trunks would be rad too.

Yeah I wasn't really trying to pretend I was anyone else

>Screams are a mix of excitement and agony

Attached: aaaaa.gif (600x600, 1.96M)

That would give a feeling similar to the last Jedi, where you felt the movie was going to end but it kept going for another 40 minutes. You can't just have a build up to a grand climax like the Super Saiyan fight and a finale like Namek's explosion and then keep going for another half an hour. Dramatic narratives don't work that way

The best way they could handle something like that is by having Trunks show up in the last 15 minutes to give some exposition for the next film

Tony jaa

Manga a shit

I don't think it's like Last Jedi at all, that had an entire B-plot going nowhere.
