He fights with his brains. As we see he doesn't like to fight fair, preferring to ambush and strike first. In the fight we see he is probably distracted with the knowledge that it's 3v1 (in his eyes) and that Alita was just captured. I buy his backstory that he's a guy who doesn't have a ton to live for and so doesn't mind being reckless. But that goes out the window a bit now that he has Alita, I'm surprised he'd go out the night after she wakes up and potentially die. Because he has Alita now.

Video Games = "entertainment" sensibility = reddit = autism This is predominantly an art board (the "entertainment" shit that is constantly being discussed here is a result of crossposters(like you) from pleb boards like Yea Forums and Yea Forums True cinema = art which is the opposite to autism and in turn the opposite to video games. The sensibilities resulting in video game appreciation are diametrically opposed to the appreciation of cinema as "art". Gelda said "Finish the mission. Destroy Zalem." when she saved 99 from falling off the supply tube. I suppose "destroy" doesn't necessarily mean physical. She could destroy the political, economic, and social structures but that would be a dull movie.

>something about these shots look better than in the movie It's usually the case with concept art. Concept art, because it's art and not digitally rendered "reality" within a a moving picture, has much more artistic license and freedom. There are so many games, shows and movies where the concept art was beyond gorgeous but unfortunately had to be toned down or scrapped for some reason or another.
Like this one from the game Remember Me, for instance.

I dunno. There still seemed to be too many humans without cybernetics. I may be remembering the manga wrong, but I thought it looked like too many normal humans around. Though I guess I can see why for budget reasons.
He is not a good guy, but he makes ALITA smile so I guess that is enough.
Jose Lopez
I think they’re going to use the same twist as the manga where in her past life Alita was actually a terrorist and we’re not supposed to be rooting for her in these flashback scenes.
Landon Turner

I assumed both skycity government and Mars government were probably corrupt and ammoral at best or totally evil at worst. But then, why would would 99 be trained to not stand by in the presence of evil?
I’m actually surprised how much Tom Holkenberg has developed as a composer. When he first started writing film scores he would never use woodwinds and rarely choir and the instruments were always mixed to sound synthetic. With Alita seems he’s finally fully embraced the full orchestra and stepped away from endlessly reusing his aggressive Man-of-Steel-style drum loops. The Motorball track is the only place where he lets loose with his old style.

What terrorist doesn’t think they’re fighting for good, user? I’m not saying she’ll discover she used to be a puppy-eating sociopath, but that the war she used to be fighting wasn’t as morally clear cut as she assumed, and that destroying zalem wasn’t exactly for benevolent reasons. Why not? The movies seem to be leading up to it, with the next one being titled “Fallen Angel” and all.

I mean, she does smile more in the manga and she gets a second love interest. But with the film taking some liberties with some character moments, I don't think they'll let Alita go full on isolated and depressed. She'll be sad a lot more, but for the sake of audience reception, she'll just be neutral with some light hearted moments.
Leo Flores
>didn't deny it How many times have you begged the janitor and mod to save you so far? Especially when you get called shill

Ryan Lopez
How do you define terrorist? She appeared to be a formally trained military regular. Are you saying that Mars government are the bad guys skycity government are actually the guys? I guess the real questions is: why did URM attack the skycities? I'm not assuming either of them are good guys and 99 was just doing her job. I do think the ending hints at her finishing the mission like Gelda said, though, which most likely means dropping the Zalem on Iron City. I think 99 will have some sort of epiphany that redeems Zalem.
Jordan Baker
no but RR is ready to given the chance.

I have to say the score is growing on me, I really like in the clouds. I see it as a subtle score though that doesn't draw a lot of attention.

You'll probably need to wait a few months for the box office to taper out, Fox execs to figure out how much was made, and then for James Cameron to figure out if he wants a sequel or not. I really doubt it will be sooner then that.
Levi Thompson
>gets a second love interest I wonder how Jimbo and Rodriguez are going to handle this without it feeling jarring or shoehorned. Figure Four in the manga is pretty irrelevant to the main story until Last Order, which they’re not adapting. I think they’ll go with one of the following >Alita is single for the other two movies (unlikely) >resurrect Hugo (I seriously hope they don’t do this) >figure four is in, but with an expanded role and changed backstory, introduce him during the next film >kaos becomes the love interest instead, possibly merged into a single character with figure four
Matthew Myers
There will be, but I'm curious how far they'll take it.
Noah James
The focus wont be on that, they even said during the movie it was 300 yrs ago. And the system is a different place now.
Jason Cook
>>figure four is in, but with an expanded role and changed backstory, introduce him during the next film >>kaos becomes the love interest instead, possibly merged into a single character with figure four More than likely these two options. If they were even going to consider reviving Hugo, which thank god they didn't, they wouldn't have the months time skip at the end of the film.
they could have figure partner with her the next movie, maybe try to flirt with her a it but keep getting shot down. Than on third, they can have something going on by the end
Owen Lewis
Post results if you do user, that looks awesome to do
Jaxson Green
Well, in the manga she discovers that her past self is responsible for a lot of the problems in the setting by trying to destroy Jeru. They’re not going to go this route for the film but they could probably still adapt the same general idea, that she’s not getting the full context from her flashbacks and once she discovers whatever really happened in the past it’ll be some kind of shock or moral dilemma. I think there’s a reason this movie doesn’t show what happens when she climbed into Zalem in the past, give too much context on why they want to destroy Zalem and Nova, or depict what caused alita to end up a dismembered amnesiac torso. They’re saving it for some kind of reveal.
Connor Taylor
The audience doesn't care. They haven't forgotten 9/11, Timothy McVeigh, or ISIS.
Only a complete jackass would try to sell a terrorist hero.
Cameron Smith

Ian Nelson
No, there's no 4D theater anywhere near me even in car driving distance. Can't see how it's not a gimmick though so I'm not complaining.
Sebastian Thompson
Yeah I'm actually agreeing with you. One theme here is that she has been given a fresh start, and it's up to her to decide to be good or not. The focus will be on her realizing more about her past, and some of the dirty parts of it. I don't think they'll take it in the direction of she wakes up and realizes she needs to 'finish the mission'. But I fully expect she'll go up to Zalem and take out the evil she sees there.
The issue is that figure four is basically a mercenary Alita bumps into while working for Zalem, goes on some random adventures for a while, and then leaves him at his hometown to carry on with the main storyline. He was pretty much just there to serve as a love interest. They’d need to seriously rework pretty much everything about him to fit him into the story of the next two films.
Jacob Jackson

The realisation/ depression just fucking hit me. >Disney is buying fox So odds are they're not gonna release the sequel. And if they do, it would be sjw shitfest because disney ruins everything they touch. Star wars, capeshit, even FROZEN is kike propaganda now, it was over before it even begun
Not likely. James Cameron had complete control over this film, he's said it. Fox had no input on what would go in to it. Even under the cloud of Disney, they know how influential Cameron is. I mean, just look at his Avatar Land in Animal Kingdom. They would let him make the movie.
Shieeet man you've got a point actually. I probably shouldn't doubt the power/influence of a director that made the two highest grossing films of all time
Jack Walker
I'm so relieved it's in Cameron's hands. He wont make a sequel unless it's good. I'd rather not have a sequel then have disney shit all over it.
Originally he wanted to cut her up and use sell her for some change. His black friend says as much during their confrontation during the end. "Man you should have shanked that bitch when you had the chance" or something along the lines of that.
Henry Myers
And consider, he's still coming out with his Avatar films under Fox even with Disney buying it. Imagine, if Avatar 2 makes a billion dollars, they'll easily let him finish the Alita trilogy.
Aaron Wright
>he doesn't want just the attention and affection of a girl who just loves you for you >he still thinks it's about the sex teenager detected

Does it bother anyone else that a teenager could save up 910,000 credits and buy a once in a life trip to Zalem? It's like he's some kingpin not a low thug.
Blake Robinson
Yeah, she easily fell in love with him because he was the first. I mean, he did spend time with her, introduce her to new things, and such, but he created a lot of problems for her, and now she's going to be more mature because of that relationship.

Box office fag back. As of Tuesday morning, China's total run for Alita: Battle Angel sits at 74.5 million dollars. It's holding pretty decently and as expected. This weekend will the battle between the angel and the dragon. piaofang.maoyan.com/dashboard
Austin Powell
Can you take a metra line to the city? If so, just do that and then catch a bus or ridershare to the pier. For Alita of course
Tempting, but I'm too much of a wagecuck to call off work and am not available until the weekend, by that time it won't be playing there. I'll continue supporting the movie from DuPage.
Nathan Green
FUCK man, this is fucking bullshit! Why do those bugpeople keep getting this sick ass posters?
Guys... I think a sequel is most definitely happening. I mean, this official article from Maoyan is fucking raving about how good it is and how good it's doing in surrounding countries. Cameron will definitely notice.
If you want that, you'll have to dig in to China's exclusive social media platforms. From what I've gathered, the general audience of China really likes the film. I've found some comments saying the story is just alright, but the overwhelming majority likes it and especially loves it's effects.
Eli Martinez
The waifuism you see in these general threads, but several times stronger. Some of us might be willing to see the movie 12 times, but many chinks would be willing to die for Alita
it's amazing. Cameron has a knack for getting repeat views. I remember the Titantic sensation and Leomania that caused teenage girls to see Titanic like 7 times. And I'm sure Avatar was much the same for people wanting to experience Pandora over and over.

Okay, so I dug up this old article from back in 2006 where Cameron talks Avatar and then Battle Angel. He said he would follow the model of the Pirates Of The Caribbean films, that if the movie made money, they would shoot both movies back to back. So question, if Alita does manage to pass 400 to 450 million worldwide with China fucking raving about it, will James actually go the full step and finance two Alita sequels at once with a 300 million dollar budget for both films? And have Rodriguez shoot them back to back?
I'd have been happier if he'd compared them to LotR instead of PotC but I sure hope this happens.
Nicholas Peterson
It should be fine with it's tracking. The only aspect of the film that will be deemed a disappointment is it's domestic run. It didn't bomb in the states, but wasn't anything to celebrate.
Christopher Mitchell
OH GOD I HOPE SO.
That means then that even if the sequel doesn't land as well, we are still guaranteed a third movie to finish it.
Blake Johnson
He actually did mention LOTR and said they took a huge risk filming all three back to back and he didn't like that. He said two was a good middle ground.

Why is America so shit? Like what the fuck are people watching in theaters right now?

I'm curious though if 450 million would be enough for him to do that. I think it would be a safe move to just do a 275 to 300 million back to back shoot, that way each film has a 150 million budget.
Christopher Edwards
Hey, uh, what if Alita ate a bunch of chocolate and gained weight? Man that would be sooooooooo funny hahahahahaa
Oliver Torres
As long as we get them I will praise Jimbo.

Nothing. If you looked at the weekend Alita came out, just in general, people didn't go the cinemas much.

I'm just hoping that it will be enough that he will do it to its full extent and be buttressed by whatever returns he makes on the Avatar sequels.
Xavier Moore
>not would be willing to die for Alita Absolutely haram.
Seems like it would be pretty easy to make, if this movie continues to make money I think more merchandise like that would be inevitable.
Hunter White
so if Alita bombs could cameron just make the films himself? Does he have that much clout?
Logan Mitchell
But why? What's keeping regular people from going to see a movie that's obviously just the kind of fun action flick they love when they watch F&F or Transformers or MCU shit?
>Alita ate a bunch of chocolate and gained weight >cyborg She already weighs more than a hundred pounds.

I was born two years after titanic but saw the movie some ungodly number of times thanks to family being obsessed with it. Still doesn't get old even today, I don't know how he fuckin does it. And then he changed the world with avatar, and now he's taken over all of china with Alita.

I hate to admit it, the marketing wasn't in full force in America and the uncanny eyes turned some people off. Plus, they didn't understand Cameron had been working on this film for years and was originally supposed to take Avatar's place. I don't think they capitalized on American cinemas as much, hell, I wonder if they even expected it to do well here. It's so obvious it was better handled in China. I think they knew overseas box office was more important, and based on how it's doing overseas right now, it's paying off back. It actually more than doubled it's entire foreign gross in just it's second three day weekend. This film is doing exactly how they wanted overseas. It's really only the US that's not keeping up.
Dominic Harris
Honestly I blame the original trailers, marketing and the glut of shitty anime adaptations - people were immediately turned off by the eyes and just the idea of another shitty Hollywood anime movie. Being completely honest, I didn't even want to watch this movie at first until I kept seeing people here talking about it, so I broke down, took a chance, and haven't regretted it since.
That said, I've tried to get some friends into it, and half hated it and the other half loved it. The half that hated it felt the story was way too random and disjointed and that people just appeared and things just happened randomly... combine that with the cheesy dialogue and they just thought it was a terrible joke. The other half (like me) were able to keep up and appreciate the movie's sincerity and 90s flare. Plus Alita.
But going off this anecdote, the movie has received mixed reviews depending on where you look. Combine that with the revulsion to and mockery of the original trailers and you get a largely apathetic audience who likely just avoided it out of fear of potentially wasting money.
I guarantee that when this comes out on Netflix, Prime, whatever, people will come around to it much more as they can easily just watch it (or rewatch it) in the comfort of their own homes at their own pace. That should help build up actual hype for the sequel.
This, the trailers turned me off of it and I didn't care about the movie until people started telling me it was actually good.
Robert Davis
>shill for free on social media >participate in battle angel generals >tell coworkers and randoms about alitafu >go see it for a 3rd time tonight with frens what have you done today user?

>I didn't even want to watch this movie at first until I kept seeing people here talking about it, so I broke down, took a chance, and haven't regretted it since. Exact same boat here, no clue how they could've avoided it though.

Well we were just at the perfect shit storm epicenter for it - we've got a burgeoning weeb culture that has been largely turned off by Hollywood anime adaptations. And we have an extensive meme culture that went to town eviscerating any credibility the original trailers and marketing for this movie might have had. Finally, we are heavily steeped in irony and post-irony, meaning everything has to be self-aware and self-degrading to be accepted. Honesty and sincerity will be laughed out of the theater by jaded fucks, so the dialogue in this movie just couldn't resonate with some people on first watch.

Whats with the w? Also, based horny jap poster.

I'm seeing it tomorrow morning. Will be my fourth time. >I guarantee that when this comes out on Netflix, Prime, whatever, people will come around to it much more as they can easily just watch it (or rewatch it) in the comfort of their own homes at their own pace. Can't wait for the onslaught of people going, "I should've seen it in the theater! Why didn't I go?" True, I don't think James Cameron anticipated so many young adult movies being made inbetween the time he announced the film and it's actual release. Fuck outta here with that number. It will do 6 to 7 million US 3 day weekend and will make another 70 to 90 million from the foreign market.

This is so adorable it actually makes my heart ache. How did they make her so perfect???
