Their unit hardly survived they had a Major, who is usually in command or 2nd in command to a battalion which is 300-1000 men, commanding less than 10 guys. Their really just the absolutely smashed and devastated remains that managed to hold up/retreat to a defensive position.

It's not obvious other detachment are alive, they're only barely hanging on because their Major is promising his 8 or so privates left women to rape to keep them in line. That is not the sign of a intact command structure. Their not even really in the army anymore at that point, their bandits and the major is their chief. He's just holding onto the old titles of major, private, servant etc.

In the the one "battle" scene we see they have 4-5 guys that are pretty good squadrons and they're defending an open field with heavy weapons and mine's against only a few dozen infected. The major only needs his couple of men to hang on for a little while at least.

The promise of sex does not make a good enough soldier for about ten fuck ups to suddenly become the only troop to survive an apocalypse.
The idea that their group found shelter, only to completely disintegrate upon close quarters combat, should immediately provide that other groups were able to survive.
If that group could survive by any metric, others should have been able to as well. Simple as.

The entire outbreak happens over the space of a month and they were reduced from an entire company (as evidence by the Doctor Who being a major) to less than a section. Based on the timeline presented in the show they'd been at that house for an absolute maximum of two weeks and that's assuming they abandoned the roadblock the same day the government fell. Either way, there's no reason to think they were in any way competent, the attack during dinner may have only been the second or third one they'd repelled and it's probable that there were other people broadcasting but the survivors didn't listen to those because they were civilian or low range bands and an army post would have been the only group able to broadcast nationwide and the only one anyone would have any interest in listening to.

Why do you keep insisting other groups would be broadcasting? These guys were broadcasting to lure women into a trap. The government had collapsed and most every person able to get out, had at that point fled. The rest of the military was dead or had evacuated. The only people left were small civilian pockets of survivors.

More ridiculous than Frank and Hannah surviving by staying in their apartment? They basically did the same thing after they left the roadblock except with machine guns instead of a baseball bat and a riot shield. Keep in mind they lost an entire company in two weeks, there's no reason to expect they were survivor material, they just hadn't all died yet.

It's made pretty clear that the army is gone. Even other surviving members would not be part of any command structure and even if they were there's no reason they'd be trying to attract civilians to them. Major West only did that because he wanted women and he did not have communication with other units. The only other people broadcasting would be on ham radio if anyone was. Most people still alive would be sitting in their homes trying not to get noticed, like the people in the farmhouse in 28 Weeks Later

There's a difference between being a roving column and staying in a small apartment atop a tower. There's a difference between a two-storey cottage and a penthouse.
It's unfair to assume the entire army just fell to shambles exactly once the apocalypse began, or that some units didn't still retain structure. The very fact that the recruits who do survive are so easily deterred from military formalities should prove they couldn't have had the strategic or tactical thought to face down zombies.
They may have had leadership, but for every Major West there's another Farrell, too.
If part of their unit was able to get away, even though that's proven impossible by the events of the finale, then others should've been able to as well, especially the higher up the command chain, and these would still have cared about the greater good, which means broadcasting to survivors.

They're no longer a useful ally, all that land and infrastructure they might lay claim to is however highly valuable real estate.
